Mucker, the Tamiya metalics aren't as fine as the Gunze ones, but then they have proved tougher.

When I've used the Gunze ones before, I've not had to mask over the top of them, which probab;y why I've not had the lifting issues before.

Jay, I'll just strip the Tojo back and start again with Tamiya metalics.

So no loss.

I can't argue with that, Karl. Tamiya acrylics (and gunze acrylics) are my favorite to spray. They are definately durable. For fun, I ordered a few colors from the company called Agama out of the Czech Republic. From the little I could find on them they supposedly spray and handle like Gunze acrylics. the knock is that they are too flat and require a bit of gloss before decaling.

Time will tell...

Karl....My first shot at NMF i used MM Metliziers and really liked the finish and look of the "metal" the ability to buff them to different tones I liked and after a hit with the sealer i had no problems with masking or handling.

Good luck!!!

Karl hope the NMF gets sorted soon, looking forward to more pics!!! The last two NMFs I have done came out great!!! Because thats EXACTLLY what they were, natural METAL finish!!! Cheapest kitchen foil you can get, home made brew adhesive!! But you had better not have any hint of seams or specks of dust!!! Guess thats true whether you paint or foil!!!

Hi all, i was having an 'inbetween' build from a Reggy aero build. I posted a pic of my finished cocpit for a Tamiya Kyofu. Richie suggested i come over here and join in with this GB. If youll have me, id love to. I have finised the pit and have the fuz together. If im too far into the build id understand.

Ive seen some great work in this GB, but dont let my sucking up sway you. LOL.

I saw the Seiran, simply gorgeous. When i was thinking about starting the RA GB, it was a toss up between Italian and Jap subjects. The both look so cool.

Well heres where i am so far. My plan for this plane is to have a really really worn plane. The sort of thing youd find floating on a lagoon somewhere, late 45,

Ta daaaa, give me half an hour and ill post he pics of the floats and fuzz.

As promised, heres the rest of where im at. In the 1st pic you can see that ive tried rivetting the main float. Not sure yet but i may rivet the whole airframe. Im using a ponce wheel and am not really sure i like the results. LOL, Oh and the seam between the struts and the main upright has since been eliminated,

Top work so far, guy. I need to find a rivetter as well. With all of them I sand off, it would save me a lot of time in the recovery process.

The fuzz?  Why are you putting fuzz into your build? That would be rather messy. Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

If you're trying to shorten fuselage, then I think you mean to write fuse or fuze.  Fuzz is something you find in your navel. Whistling [:-^]

Nice looking cockpit. Thumbs Up [tup]

Now why would i want to shorten the fuselage? Surely the flight characteristics would be well up the creek Wink [;)]

Sorry about the fuzz thingy, that comes from my years in the RC game. For some reason we called the fuselage the fuzz, and it kinda stuck LOL. As for navel fluff, why the hell is it always blue?....and where the hell does it come from?

Ah...unless you have an "outie" (not an Audi).

Blue? It must be a UK thing. I thought naval lint is supposed to be green?

As promised, heres some pics, this sucker has a fair old dihedral on it. I checked, its not down to my naff maodelling LOL,

as i thought that the build was going too easily, i decided to hack the elevators up,

i also thought id hack off the rudder as well. This might be a little more tricky than the elevators,

I dont know if anyone has done one of these before but i was shocked by the thinness of the glasswork. Its so thin, it totally negates the need for a vacformed canopy. Here is the sliding portion compared to an older Tamiya FW190 canopy,

Finally, heres a pic of the main float with the undercoat of Alclad's Airframe alluminium. Next i spray the alclad with Tamiya clear, then the top coat of green. Then i scrape of a few scratches here and there.

Guy that is coming along very nice! I was wondering how did you separate the elevators so perfectly? They look like totally separate pieces

Wow, Guy, the elevators look great. Nice work removing them. The canopy does look nice and thin.  Very nice. Looking forward to seeing more progress on this one.

Well got a lil bit done on the Jake today. I've had the floats together for a few days on to a week or more and have been filling and sanding. Also drilled holes for the rigging. Got the right float on and rigged. Didn't need a second fill and sand. I am adding the upper wing halves after this step which may seem a bit backward in thinking, but I am using knitting -in elastic for the rigging and need to pull it taught before adding upper halves. Read a review on this kit and was prepared for the prominent gap on the aft edge of the underside. did a test fit before adding float and am confident that with careful handling will be able to tackle the gaps. My main concern was having dead straight rigging. yes there is a kink in the rigging on the rt side of the float, that was just caused by the glue making the elastic stiff. Straight now, just didn't feel like takin another pic till later today. It's 2:20am and will soon be hitting the hay. Anyway here's a couple pics fer ya! Night all!Zzz [zzz]

Hi Jason, I have found the perfect thing for separating elevators and such. Its also the best scribing tool in my inventory. Its from the Bare metal foil co and its great. Id recommend it to anyone,

Thanks Guy!!! Yeah, I like these Japanese floaters too!! I like the way the Jake looks myself, and from what I've read it was the fave among the pilots as well.
