Dave, great job on the Zero interior.

I built this kit when it first came out, and was totally blown away by the quality.

Mike, nice progress on the Corsair, that IP looks spot on.

Made some headway on the Raiden, with the the IJN Green going on.

When I've used IJN green before it has always come out too dark, so this time I went with a base coat of Gunze Field Green....

...which I then went over with Gunze IJN Green along all the panel lines...

...before applying a coat of IJN Green cut with 25% Field Green.

I'm pleased with this approach as the pre-shade is still visible, but the surface finish doesn't look too dark.

I'll park it overnight and let the paint harden before applying the Future.

Thanks Jason.

I've just removed the masking and found a couple of areas that will need tidying up over the next couple of days....

...and here is where the masking on the ID stripes lifted.

I'm not surprised about the ID bands as the demarcation line between the green and the yellow runs over the gun fairings.

Nothing a little touching up won't cure.

Charles, Karl, thanks much guys! It certainly means a lot coming from you fellas. Yes

Karl, that is an amazing paint job on your Jack. I'll be using MM enamels on my Zeke, and the IJN green does indeed look quite dark. Kept thinking "how the heck am I gonna pre-shade this?!" You've just given me new hope, my friend! I just have to try your technique and keep my fingers crossed that it turns out half as nice as yours.

Very nice catch there, Richie!! Yes

Hey all great work here! As I'm  not really happy with the way things turned out with my Hellcat and Zeke., I will be adding my 1/48 B-25J "Jaunty Jo" to the roster if that is ok with the admin's?!?

The actual aircraft saw action as part of the 498th BS, Biak Island, New Guinea in May of 1945.

I should be starting work on her in the next couple of days!

Sorry I've been AWOL for so long. Responsibilities and such have kept me from the bench. I slapped the last paint coat on the Hasegawa Jill I've been working on, that's approaching the 80% completion stage. The big Avenger though is still sitting with most of the sub-assemblies unpainted. I'll throw up some pics of the Jill when I get home.

Ditto  I've been unemployed for seven months, plenty of free time but no desire.  The P-40E is appox. 85-90% complete.....however, the good news is that I start a new job on Tuesday  ToastBig Smile Propeller  Something completely different than what I have done for the last thirty years, but change is good...right?  Anyway, I hope to do some work on Bob's Robin this evening, maybe try to finish up this weekend.

A lot a great work has been posted here-sorry I haven't commented on it prior.

Bob, best of luck in the new job.Toast

Thanks for the comments guys.

Everything was going well this week until last night when I started on the decals.

When I applied the Techmod Hinomaru to the lower wings they bled out.

Oh well no big, deal I can just mask them up and touch out with some IJN Grey later, I thought.

So then I applied the Hinomaru to the fuselage & upper wings.

The Techmod decals chipped over the aileron actuator covers, again no big deal, and did require a lot of softener & setter to snuggle over the wing detail.

However can you see the mistake?

Yup, the fuselage Hino are too far back! Censored

I didn't notice until this evening after they had hardened off.

So....

...sanded back on both sides ready for a new paint job, and this time the kit decals.

Having done that to the top side, I thought what the hell.....

and have spent this evening sorting out the damage....

...back to this.

I'll put a coat of Future over the repairs to the lower wing tonight, then repaint the fuselage.

C'est la vie.

Thanks all.  Yes Carlos, change is good....just can be hard sometimes....at least for me.

Did some work on the P-40 last night-landing gear attached, managed to lose the tail wheel over the last couple of months, took one from the Revell P-40B that is sitting around uncompleted....oh well, at least I'll get one out of the way.  Should be able to get a coat of flat on today, tomorrow, then finish up next weekend.

Hey guys...planning ahead to see how to keep the elves busy the rest of the year i found this kit...(or it could be I just feel the need to pad my stash)....anyhow has anyone ever build this??.... Is it up to par with Tamiya or Haseg??? I posted the same on the Aircraft page but I feel more comfortable with the opinion of my GB pals...

Carlos, the Finemolds Judy is a good kit with plenty of detail, but due to the modular design is a pain to build.

Mine required loads of shims to make the fuselage match the belly and nose intake inserts.

The interior is great though, and this is the only game in town in 1/48.

The Raiden has finally managed to exit the decal process!

I ended up removing the top wing roundels, as unlike the ones on the fuselage and lower wing, which were bonded into the paint, when I went to mask them off to perform a touch up.

Go figure.

Have just applied the panel wash, so on the home straight.

Looking great so far Metallicus!

And smart looking D4 Karl.

Carlos, can't add much to what Karl already said about the kit, it's pretty good in detail, not quite as detailed as your typical Hasegawa kit. I have three of them, the standard IJN bomber, the night fighter variant, and the radial engined version - I think it's a D4Y3. I haven't assembled any so I can't say anything about the fit myself.

Thanks Karl...I think I iwll get it and we will see about building it. I guess it cant be any worse than those Special Hobby kits Ive built...you got any pics of Judy's innards??

Looks like you are still way ahead of me on the Raiden, I am getting ready to mask and paint the yellow bands,  still slow going.

BTW very nice looking Judy. I have always been intrigued by this plane since seeing them years ago on 1:700 carriers those little inline suckers...at the time I had never heard of them.

Bob good luck with your new job I hope everything goes well for you Yes.

Brenden the B-25 is looking great, I really have a soft spot for those old Monogram kits they were the best there was in thier time.  Also do you want me to remove your other builds from the roster and just leave the B-25?

Karl major bummer with the decals there, at least you've got the kit decals to fall back on.

Cheers

Carlos, the FM Judy does build up into a good looking model, and the interior detail is pretty good.

Darren, I used Techmod Hinomaru on the 1/72 Ki-44 without issues, so anyone's guess why the 1/48 equivalents were an issue.

Only problem with the kit Hino, is they are a little on the bright side.Cool

Metalicus the B-25 is looking good...i need to build me one of those some day...

KJ200 the interior of the Judy is amazing...

I got some more detail stuff done over here...about ready to future everything and get going on the wash...oil and terpentoid this time...see how that works out for me...

Going to have knee surgery this Thursday...finally going to have an ACL back in my knee...6 month rehab...not sweat but i will be able to work and skate again...needs to be done...

The hawk across the street has been back..

All ready to go...did all the final chipping and scuffing...

really excited about the prop...

I ordered the quick-boost engine and finally got it yesterday...4 of the front crankcase bolts were broken off...oh well...i might just use the kit engine...got some resin gear dors and exausts as well...mech better than the kit parts...

the cowl ring came out cool as well....thanks Daywalker....

had to make the red knob on the side console...in my photos it has a button on the top...i think this works..

Now i am really excited about the resin gunsight....

hoping to get the future and wash done before surgery but probably not going to happen...how long do you usually let the oils sit before removing stuff?...

thanks for looking guys...hope everybody else is having as much fun as i am...

Nice pics of the Hawk Dave!!!! Was driving along the freeway in Georgia one day and saw a Red-tailed Hawk circling and as I passed he went into a sharp turn and then I watched in my mirror as he pounced on the ground and then flew off with a lil grey package. Awesome to watch them at their best!!!! Great looking Corsair!!! I know ur looking forward to seeing all the sub-assemblies being put together to make an airplane!!!!!!!

I have seen that hawk sitting over there eating a blackbird or a pigeon sometimes....he makes the crows and seagulls in the neighborhood nervous...they will gang up on him an chase him around...its funny...

I cant wait to get all those little pieces together and watch it come together...did a full mock up last night...

Hey sf_plane_nut, There's a Red Tail Hawk that lives in the area where I reside. I've seen the crows gang up on it and chase it off too. Pretty cool the tactics the smaller agile crows will use to drive them away.

Metallicus, nice progress on the B-25.

looking forward to seeing more progress pics.

Dave, the Corsair looks to be coming on nicely.

The Raiden is almost complete now...

.... the matt coat went on milky, so I've decided to go for a more satin finish, which suits the J2M, even if it's not 100% accurate.
