Upper wing-to-fuselage join? I really didn't see anything that looked too bad, maybe different "in person"? And as far as the wash issues go, it's a P-40, it's supposed to look dirty! :) I actually like the look of it. Did you leave your wash on too long? Problems removing the excess? Thumbs up from my point of view!

thanks for the thumbs up guys...

it has some issues in the wing join area...never could get it nice and clean...i will try to get a better angle of it...

as far as the wash i tried a bunch of different stuff...ended up eating the future and staining the paint itself...upon cleaning it off and looking at it i too decided i liked it...need to get out the powders and finish it off...

Wow! You fellas have really been cruising right along!

Stik, the blue on the Hellcat looks fantastic! Did you do the demarcation freehand?

Paul, well done on your dio! I've never attempted one, but your fine work might be just enough to coax me into taking the plunge.

Carlos, I am thrilled that you were able to fix the issues with the NMF on your Jack. Definitely looking forward to seeing more progress on this one!

Dave, you are a machine, man! The office for your Corsair looks top-notch, and the P-40, well, it's one of my favorite warbirds and yours has me drooling!

Keep 'em comin guys!

I just got finished applying a flat coat to the main cockpit components on my Zeke, but it'll be a few days before I have anything significant to post in the way of pics. Soon though, with all the details.

Some progress on the Raiden....

...the yellow for the ID bands.

I used a custom mix of Tamiya yellow and orange for the bands, as well as spraying up the front faces of the props, as don't fancy using the Hase decals for the warning bands.

I've just Futured the orange, ready for masking tomorrow, after which it's on to the IJN grey.

Sf plane nut, Gunze H24 is the color I used on my ID bands!!! Didn't have to mix! However the  mixed color you have done looks spot on!!!!Toast

Dave, if you are looking for paint matches try here...

http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts.asp

Richie, I did look at the Gunze, as I will be using Gunze for the IJN Grey & Green, but already had the orange and yellow to hand.

I masked the bands up last night. I swear it took me an hour to get them straight!

Light Gull Gray is a good choice for this color. FS 36440.

With the ID bands masked it was time to attack the underside of the Raiden with some paint.

I started with my usual preshade of Tamiya Nato Black along all the panel lines on the underside.

I don't bother with pre-shades under dark colours like IJN Green, as I prefer to use post shading instead, hence only doing the underside.

While I had the a/b loaded with Nato Black I painted the anti glare panel on the nose.

Here you can see it masked up after a coat of Future.

Looks a bit wasp like with all that black and yellow.

I then started on the IJN Grey, applying it to the centre of all the underside panels. You can barely make it out against the Tamiya Sky Grey I use as a primer coat.

Once that had hardened off for an hour, I went over the entire underside with further coats of Gunze IJN Grey, until the panel shading was only just visible.

I left the under carriage bays a little dirtier.

The whole lot is sitting on the bench drying as I type, so tomorrow night should see a coat of Future, before I mask up for the IJN Green.

I see come pretty good work going on over here!  I haven't done much with my B-29, my basement is a bit cold.  And every time I walk by RB-36H I get a headache.  I'll start on my B-29 when it warms up around spring time.

Well I've just gone back through the last couple of pages to see what I have missed and Wow that's some amazing work.

Paul congrats on a really fine looking dio, I've marked you up as finished on page 1 Toast

Dave, what can I say that Corsair is stunning and I agree with you the finish on the P-40 looks spot on.

Keep up the great work everybody and I may actually have some pics to publish on the 1/72 P-47 that I picked up again last weekend after it had sat on the shelf for 2 years.

OK guys, it's been a while I know, but I've finally been able to make a bit of headway on my Zeke. So far it's just the office, but I have to tell you that Tamiya knocked it right out of the park on this baby where OOB detail is concerned. Never thought I'd see one to top their 1/48 P-47's, but IMO this one does, and then procedes to raise the bar that much higher. It's a gem! All I needed to add was some PE belts - everything else is what comes with the kit.

Here are the sub-assemblies....

....and here's everything attached (including the gun breeches) just before I buttoned her up.....

Wow Rudd, that looks pretty impressive! I see what you mean about the detail. As far as topping their P-47 goes, I cant say, but I have heard that Mr Tamiya has a special fondness for Japanese subjects.

Been getting some stuff done over here as well...

think i am finally happy with the IP

A little dry brushing and detail painting...

need to do some more painting as i dont really like the gray...too blue...the knobs on the wiring harness are for the plug wires...

After going over the color reference i am working with i went for a dull dark green for the cockpit and the light gray for the underside and wheel wells but with the salmon primer for the front wells.....the wells and gear need another coat...

trying to get as much done as i can before surgery on the 25th...wont be getting much done after that for about a month...

Mike that looks like an amazing amount of detail for an OOB front office and very nicely weathered too.  The Tamiya P-47 is my all time favourite kit and is my vote for best model ever, but if you are saying that the Zero is better I'd better get a start on mine.

An update on the IJN wharf...

After finishing the I-400 I took a deep breath and did another try on the Akagi flight deck. First the white for the lines. No problem, can't go wrong (ok, i can but...)

After letting it dry for a day or 2, I start with the tape. It took the better part of the evening, but every stripe of white is there where it should be. After airbrushing the brown deck only the red "sun" and the red striping at the landing part of the deck had to be done. This was the 4th try on this part, so I was a bit nervous on that. Again masking the deck, airbrush... taking away the tape and... YES!!! IT WORKED!!!

With the old fashion hand brush I painted the grey parts on the deck, the sidewalks, so maybe this weekend I can finish the model. No diorama yet...

In the mean time, another big IJN ship has been placed on the wharf, the Musashi. So Darren... Would you please...?

Somthing else for you guys, I see the stakes are high here... Amaizing how detailed some people make the cockpits and the planes... The Elfes would love to fly them...

Thanks much, fellas! Got the halves buttoned up and have moved on to the wing assemblies. I'll keep ya posted.

Darren, stik - I love Tamiya's Jug kits (built the razorback and have a bubbletop in the stash). They are awesome kits with incredible cockpit detail, but I think the Zeke's is just a little better. As for the rest of the Zeke, I'll let ya know how she compares to them when she's finished. Yes

Dave, stunning work on the Corsair. Incredible attention to detaiI! I never saw that color in their wheelbays before. Gotta love this site. Always something new to learn.

Paul, mighty fine work on the carrier! Looking forward to seeing the Musashi too. Keep up the great work!
