Thanks for the feedback on the GB Badge everybody and Bob I have to agree with you. Regardless of whether you're a Brit, Yank, Aussie, Dutch or Japanese, I believe that the image of the Marines and Navy Corpsman raising the flag on Iwo Jima is "the" iconic image of the Pacific war.

the badge looks great...now if i can just get my hands on the aries cockpit for the tamiya corsair and a few other goodies i will be ready to go!...cant wait to get started...i know the kit cockpit is nice as i have been hearing from everybody but i think the resin one will look even nicer...any opinions?...

Bob - Give me a holler when you decide on a scheme. P-40's ( 4 built this year) are one of my favorite subjects to model. ( I plan on building a whole squadron in the near future) I have a lot of reference and color charts hidden away.Might even have the decals you will need.

Dana Bell did a great article in FSM a few years back about the camo colors used on lend lease P-40s. (which the 49th seems to have been mainly equipped with during their Darwin days) The colors were made by Du Pont and did not quite match up to teh RAF equivalents of the Dark Earth and Dark Green. The Dark Earth was suppose dto be lighter and sandier in color than the RAF standard and the Dark Green was closer to USAAF Medium Green. Lowers are a "Sky Gray" which is supposed to be similar to Aircraft (ADC) Gray of USAF 1950s thru 1980s vintage.

Darren-very nice job on the badge. That has to be the iconic picture of the PTO in WWII.

Ritchie-thanks for checking and for the info. I've seen bits of that book during some of my searches on the web. Hopefully I can add it to my collection at some point in the future.

I figure I don't have to decide on a specific plane until I get ready to paint....

Well Bob, the only color refs I have are the profiles in this book and it shows 'Texas Longhorn' with a yellowy tan and a lighter OD green with a lt. blue bottom and shows 'Stardust' with a dark earth and OD green with a lt. gray bottom. Texas Longhorn carried the RAF number of ET601. Stardust had ET603. Hope this helps some but will look farther into it. Might try the WINGS PALETTE website as well, there may be something there.

Thanks Richie...I'm planning on doing either Lander's 'Texas Longhorn' or using the AMTech kit decals and doing 'Stardust'. Based on inital research, there seems to be some debate on the color of the planes when they first arrived-these were 're-routed' Lend-Lease planes it seems. Some sources are going with the middlestone/field green and others are going with the middlestone/dark earth scheme (please note that the exact colors may be off a bit-I'm relying on memory here and that's not a good thing!). And the AMTech kit instructions call for Stardust to have patches of olive drab. If you can offer any insight on this, it will be much appriciated.

Or I could always do 'Bob's Robin' in straight OD and be done with it....

Brenden, no problemo an A6M2 it is.

Bob great choice of aircraft and great choice of the 49th. The 49th Pursuit Group were the first American unit to arrive in Australia as a complete unit and were heavily involved in the defence of Darwin during 1942.

Guys the official start date for this here shindig is July 13th but to be honest I really couldn't care less if you've got a build going that you'd like to include here although 97% is probably pushing it a bit.

The only rule I'm going to get fussy on with this build is making sure the plane, tank or ship actually did take part in the war in the pacific.

Charles thanks for the photos, particularly the ones of the cockpit that was exactly what I was after.

Charlie that really is lovely work, please keep the updates coming.

Metallicus is the Zero the older A6M2 kit or the new A6M5 Kit? Also any chance of sharing your first name I really loathe these nickname things.

Stu I'm just not going to ask were you got your nickname from and a couple of nice choices there especially the Acc Min Dauntless. I've got you down for the Pete and the Dauntless at the moment so if you change your mind just let me know. Also, you're right you know there is something certainly different about a float plane that goes both ways

Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SBD-5

Though I also dusted off a Tony and may give that a whirl in lieu of the SBD.

Without looking I think I also have an Avenger and B-25C that might work....

I'm 97% finished with a Hasegawa 1/48 early Kate, but I suppose that's cheating.
