Where did I get that? Sign - Oops [#oops]

For some reason I was thinking the AVG operated in the south pacific after they were absorbed (reinstated...reinlisted...replaced?) into/by the USAAF. I must have drifted off onto the Boyington tangent. (That's what I get for reading wikipedia at work!)

I could change to a Lt. Welch at Pearl Harbor P-40B easily.

Arki, yes I'm sticking to the kit markings and going pretty much OOB.  So far I've only picked up the Tamiya detail up set for the kit which has some nice little bits to it, but I'm trying to avoid AMS on this one. I've never had an issue using Tamiya decals and I think I will go for Option A which is the box art (I think).

Karl strange you should mention Call of Duty: World at War, because I was playing that last night on the Xbox 360 for a little inspiration, great game btw.

Gary sorry to rain on your parade but the Flying Tigers operated from China which is CBI and not valid for this build.

Bill you've been updated and that sounds like it's going to be an awesome build.

I'll be building the -5 with the R2800s so I'll get those from Quickboost. And I'll need new props. I just finished a build where I put R2600s on a Catalina so I think I know how to do it. Find a donor kit- the cowlings follow the engine, not the airframe. I'm looking at an overall Navy Blue color scheme, as for my own reasons this Mariner will be one that got better known post war. I am thinking however about learning a new skill and making my own clear parts.

And RATO of course!!

Seaplane lifting hooks so that she can be on the Pine Island.

Add me in- for the GB the Otaki/Arii 1/48 F6F Hellcat... I also gonna be doing a 1/300 Tamiya IJN Yugumo for my Guadalcanal GB, so if crossovers are allowed, I will sign up for two- since there is a year. I have lots of PTO subjects in my stash.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

BIG scale!! I'm scared. Sure it's easier to hold the pieces, but I guess I'm supposeed to detail it better...uh-oh! At the price I found it for I couldn't pass it up.

I have a really nice reference I picked up overseas a few years ago. It's  180+ page book soley on the Zero, complete with color scans of the original blue prints. It will take me a while to build, but I am going to have fun with it!

As for the hangar, you've got free room and board while we're building!

I'd like to jump in on this. I'm looking at the RM 1/48 P-40B Tomahawk kit in Flying Tigers finish.

There's a good article on wikipedia for anyone interested:

Edit: Just realized I never updated the picture in my sig! Blush [:I] Have to get that fixed up.

No problems Dave, consider yourself joined.

By the way what scale are you doing and who's the kit manufacturer?

I have a feeling I should be saying that. Laugh [(-D]Whistling [:-^]  Are you sticking with the kit markings or going aftermarket?  If kit, I'll do whatever version you're not!  They're both essentially the same.

Think I'll have to dust off Max Hastings' Nemesis, and Meat Balls & Dead Birds for a little inspiration.

That and a little Call of Duty: World at war should do the trick.

Darren, I swore I wouldn't join anymore GB's until my bench was completely cleared but this is shaping up to be a goodun'.  Put me down though I likely won't get started till the new year.  Lots of stuff in the stash such as the Revell PT 109, 1/72 Hasegawa Betty, Tamiya 1/72 Seiran float plane...  I'll let you know a little later what I'm in the mood for.

Darson...I was lookingat the wrong box...it is actually the Minicraft "Cocky Bobby" B-24 in 1/72 scale...the box right above it was the Academy 1/72 "Memphis Belle" B-17...no accurate miniatures...sorry, I think Iam losingmy mind, chasing after my 11 month old while being layed off!

Darson:

Put me down for the 1/24 Trumpeter A6M2b. I saw it on the clearance rack at the local toy/model store and did a double take at the $40 price tag.

I like the time frame...it gives  the looooong time I'll need.

Excellent welcome aboard Richie it's good to have you on board and I love those OOBish builds, which have a strange tendency to end up as more AM than OOB Wink [;)]

Thank you sir. And in fact I will be flying in formation with Cmdr. Eaton, as we've decided it will take two half-wits, not to mention old farts, not to mention experienced modelers to tackle the beast.

As for the Privateer, indeed I'll have to build her in all her naked glory, photo her and then paint her.

Karl welcome aboard and don't worry you have all year to make up your mind.

James I'll be looking forward to seeing your Fletcher class coming along, nice choice btw.  Also I wanted to allow "Shelf of Doom" entries to give people the urge to maybe grab that old half finished kit and give it a go.

Justin I've never heard of the Acc Min 1/72 B-24.  I didn't even know they made a Liberator, is it a re-pop of another kit?

Tony no probs there's plenty of time to choose.

Bondoman that should make a couple of great looking entries, welcome.  Btw some of my fondest memories of early modeling are of those multi colored Matchbox kits.

Anthony that's a cool kit that should build up like a treat, great choice.

Carlos good to see some more Japanese content here welcome.

Bob welcome to the build

Arki cool kit, just don't put mine to shame ok.

Darson,

I'm in.  Put me down for a 1/700 USS Houston (CA-30) by Corsair Armada.  Probably do CL-81 USS Houston as well.  Since you're allowing shelf of doom builds maybe I'll dust off my Combrig 1/700 USS Texas as well.  Let's start with CA-30 though.

Great! Put me down for the Mach II PBM-3/5 in 1/72, and if time allows, the Matchbox PB4Y-2 Privateer in 1/72, although I don't think I'll leave the dark blue/light blue/white plastic unpainted.
