Count,

I wouldn't say it's too late and welcome aboard.  Just checked the front page and there's a little over 3mos to go, guess I better get started on my Houston.  Unfortunately, a divine scale Airfix Spit Mk Vc in Royal Australian Air Force markings is calling to me at the moment.

Razor- great looking G8N1. I've looked at the kit at shows but was always afraid to buy it since some of the earlier Hasegawa kits are a little rough. You're doing a great job on her though!

Julez- fantastic looking P-40. Looking forward to seeing her done.

Kermit- great work so far. Oddly though I've build several F6Fs I've never built a F4F. Guess I need to pick one up someday.

Count- Darson has everyone's subject listed on the front page. You could just look though that till you find something you like. As far as I understand it's the whole PTO so anything Japanese, Australian, New Zealand, and most anything US Navy/Marine Corp would work.

Just a few off the top of my head:

US Army Air Force: P-38 Lightning, P-39 Aircobra, P-40 Warhawk

US Navy: F4F Wildcat, F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat

Imperial Japanese Navy: A6M Zero, N1K1 Shinden (George),  Raiden (Jack),

Imperial Japanese Army: Ki-43 Hayabusa (Oscar), Ki-44 Shoki (Tojo), Ki-84 Hayate (Frank)

Most of these are represented by both good old kits like Monogram and Airfix as well as modern but more expensive kits like Tamiya, and Hasegawa. And then there's a zillion other subjects too.

Richard, she's coming along nicely, looks goodYes.....I see hobby boss didn't neglect to leave the cutouts in the cockpit floor, i had to cut them out on the tamiya version.....

I got my decals from redroo and just as importantly the referance material that comes with with them so now i can start painting the exterior of CleoIII.......

Dave: That's a terrific job on your build. The additional scratch detail and homemade vacu-form caopy glass demonstrate the wide range of skill set you have. She'll be a beauty when you're done.

Sorry I haven't dropped in for a while guys but a project I am running at work went to hell and my butt was on the line if I couldn't put things right.

I'll go back through the last couple of pages of posts and gawk at the awesome work and add any new guys to the roster.

Also, I watched the first episode of The Pacific the other night and must say I was pretty impressed, although it hasn't grabbed me the way episode 1 of Band of Brothers did.  That's not to say I won't be watching the whole thing 6 times over but it will still be interesting to see if it's as good as BoB.

Richard consider this your official Welcome Sign to the build and that's rea lly nice work on the front office of your Wildcat Yes

Hey folks,

Didn' t receive a definate confirmation from Darson yet wheter if i can join in or not so if my build is inappropriate i will remove it from the thread but i couldn' t resist working on it..WhistlingEmbarrassed

Lets start off with some introductory sprue and decal shots:

(i like the red and white striped tail and early roundels on the left one...)

(shot with flash...sorry. Not too many parts but the ones that are there are nice, clean and fairly nicely detailed)

(decals and instruction sheet. Color references are Mr. Color, just like Trumpeter kits)

Just got the pit done. Base interior green is provided with Humbrol acrylics. My LHS just started selling it alongside the modelmaster and revell paints. This kit was a nice excuse to experiment with itSmile. Subsequent colors are mostly revell acrylics. After the colors were on i touched the dials with drops of future and drybrushed with enamel humbrol white and gunmetal. Added a quarter dollar for size reference btw...

Having fun sofarBig Smile Thanks for watching gentlemen.

Jules72,

This is only the second Hobbyboss kit i will be building and it is mostly the very same mold as this one (built a FM-1 Wildcat before). I am however very pleased with the detail and very clean molds these kits offer. In terms of price/ quality these kits could certainly compete (IMHO) with the tamigawa' s.

Heard that Hobby boss is a division of trumpeter btw if that helps you in your opinion...

Started some interior green last night and will post some pics of my progress as soon as i have something of a cockpit goingWink

Richard, just a quick question.....I've seen  a whole shelf at my LHS fill up with those hobbyboss kits lately but i've havn't had a chance to look at one yet.....How would you rate them lets say compared to a tamiya or hasegawa kit????

Jules..

Darson,

If you still allow new blood in your group i would really love to participate with a 1/48th scale F4F-3 Wildcat (late) from Hobbyboss?

My current builds are done and i would like to join in this group before it closesWink

Carlos, good to see that the elves didn't have too much trouble getting the paint off.

Prop colour looks good.

Dave, I've often eyed that kit up, but never had the guts to actually attempt it, for all the reasons you've outlined, so kudos for building it.

Are you going with the orange scheme?

The Raiden is still parked, and will probably stay that way for a few months.

Jules, good to see you back and building models.  Yes

Mike, lovely work on the Zeke engine.  Some awesome detail you've added there.  YesYes

To everyone else, there is some great work going on and I've been enjoying the pics so keep them coming.

I haven't been posting here much but I have been lurking.  Decided it was about time I got onto my build here so here's what I've been working on.  I started it for another GB so it's fairly far along.  It is the Hasegawa 1/72 G8N1 Rita which is an ancient mold but re-released a couple of years back.  No interior detail so I spruced it up a bit and fit issues are abundant but I am almost ready to add the canopies and start painting.  Here's some pics...

There was no nose gear wheel well so I had to make one.

Interior with a few bits, tape seatbelts and instrument decals added.

Exhaust pipes needed some carving.

Used a bomb rack to make control yoke handles and lengthened the nose landing gear to fit the new wheel well.

This is a tricycle gear set up so lot of weight needed up front.

Major assembly completed.

Kit glass is pretty thick.

Nose glass also has a major shelf on the inside which is not completely hidden by the framing.  No (as in absolutely none) detail in the nose compartment either.  So I added some detail from the spares box.

Had to pull out my handy dandy home made vac box to make some new glass.  Used the kit pieces for the mold.

I've since put some primer on and resanded the seams.  Need to mask and install the vac canopies at this point.  Comments welcome.

Jules, good to see you back.

There seem to be  a lot of old faces who have gone over the last few years.

Still, I suppose that is the nature of forums.

Jules-yes, it was the Midway GB that Darren organized more than a few years ago .....time is moving too quickly....no matter, it's good to see you back.  Speaking of forum members who have be gone for awhile, do you or Darren remember Tweety (Sean) or Tho??? (Tom)-they were here when I started building/participating (about the time of the first Battle of Britain GB-and the He111 is still intact) but disappeared a few years ago.

Jay- great looking F4F- she's coming along nicely.

SF- fantastic engine!

Ruddratt- looking great so far!

Metallicus- what can I say? I am green with envy! Wink

I picked up a couple of the Osprey books on the IJA and IJN that Stikpusher recommenced to me at a show last week. Got a little work done but I've been feeling under the weather. Hopefully I'll get some more done this coming week.

Nice to see this GB moving along, still churning out so much high grade stuff, AND taking in new members! Way to go fellas, and welcome aboard Freddie!

Metallicus - very nice work on the B-25, and congrats on acquiring a man cave! Looks like an awesome room!

Dave - I'm super-impressed with the work you've been doing. That engine is stunning! It really looks the part, as does the rest of your build. The weathering is top-notch! Definitely looking forward to seeing more! Yes

Jay - your Wildcat is looking great! I know as well what a dog those Tamiya decals can be to work with. Looks like you showed 'em who's boss!

Been getting a bit of work done on the zeke on this end.....

Here's the engine. Just added a few PE and styrene bits as well as some fine copper wire...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/rudd_ratt/Zero011.jpg

I wanted to show the cowling flaps open, but there's a lot of empty space behind 'em if you do, so I figured I'd better add a little plumbing and some actuator rods...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/rudd_ratt/Zero009.jpg

....and she's nearing the paint stage as well......

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/rudd_ratt/Zero010.jpg

thanks ruddrat and everybody else for your nice comments...its all a mish-mash of stuff i have been picking up from all of you guys...without what i have learned here i wouldnt even be close...

and for the record this engine looks amazing...this is the sort of thing i was aspiring to...does anybody have any comments on my prop?...i was starting to think the chipping  looked to manufactured...any suggestions would help...
