Yeah Bob it's me, from way back.....Forgot all my old passwords so i had to start from scratch......Good to see some of the old usual suspects are still around.....Oh yeah Bob is your spaghetti stick still holding the wildcats prop on???

Welcome back Jules.

Yep, the prop on the Wildcat is still being held on by the pasta-I'm thinking of weathering it a bit with olive oil & garlic.....

Cheers

edit-Mac-I didn't see your dio when I posted-very nice indeed.

Nice to see this GB moving along, still churning out so much high grade stuff, AND taking in new members! Way to go fellas, and welcome aboard Freddie!

Metallicus - very nice work on the B-25, and congrats on acquiring a man cave! Looks like an awesome room!

Dave - I'm super-impressed with the work you've been doing. That engine is stunning! It really looks the part, as does the rest of your build. The weathering is top-notch! Definitely looking forward to seeing more! Yes

Jay - your Wildcat is looking great! I know as well what a dog those Tamiya decals can be to work with. Looks like you showed 'em who's boss!

Been getting a bit of work done on the zeke on this end.....

Here's the engine. Just added a few PE and styrene bits as well as some fine copper wire...

I wanted to show the cowling flaps open, but there's a lot of empty space behind 'em if you do, so I figured I'd better add a little plumbing and some actuator rods...

....and she's nearing the paint stage as well......

Hey all Ive been really busy moving house so not that much done BUT I do know have a "MAN CAVE".

Firstly:

Jay thats one fine looking bird you have there

Dave great work on that engine!! You really dont have to stress

Here are some pics' of the "MAN CAVE"

Masked the clear's now that took me almost 4 hours even though I used Eduard mask's (which are a dream)

started making the seatbelt's from masking tape and old wire (still busy)

I've cut out the control surfaces on the wings. I used milliput and revell plasto to fill the gaps and make up the extra surface area that slides in and out when the flaps are deployed or retracted. The white lines are where i have started rescribing, its going to take a couple more sessions before that is all done. ive used plasto on the rear on the engine nacelle's to help with the blending.

I will take more detailed and better quality pics tomorrow.

Thanks for watching

Freddie, consider yourself joined, Welcome Sign to the build.

Jason I know what you mean, Tamiya decals always need that industrial strength decal setting solution and even then they still look overly thick in my book.

Dave that engine (and the rest of the kit) looks stunning, great work.

the wild cat is looking great jay....

so i survived another knee surgery...my 2nd in 4 months....got all the stuff back where it is supposed to be...6 month rehab and i will be as good as new...havent gotten much work done but did get a little stuff done...

ended up sending the quick-boost engine back as some of the crankcase bolt heads were knocked off...no big deal but we will see how long roll models takes to send another one...

still i worked on the kit engine incase i messed up the resin one...i thought this was a good back up plan as well as practice for the real thing....i tried to make some of the knob sort of things that were on the ignition ring but it never really worked out...

so i got rid of them and wired straight to the ignition ring...

did a little work on the prop...figured this was the best spot for some paint chipping...more less?...any suggestions...

got the wheel wells and landing gear washed,chipped,scuffed...need to future them back up and then some flat...

need to add the brake lines and finish up the rear wheel gear...thats what i have for now...feeling good about it at this point...let me know what you think...

Richie, it's looking great, well done with the future, I just used it myself for the first time and you certainly got a smoother finish than me. Good luck wrestling those decals into submission.

Great work going on here everyone, a pleasure to see.

Cheers....

Carlos- I think your idea of pencil for the chipping sounds like a good one.  Never thought of using tan as a basecoat for the yellow- good idea!  I have used white and light gray depending on what I had handy.

Gamera...you have a pretty good point...for a turtle...Snail

Bah! Rub it in good will you that you're more famous, make more per movie, and don't have some annoying kid named Kenji chasing you around telling you how much he loves turtles...

Wink

Mr. Surfacer is great stuff, expensive but great stuff. Personally with the thinner versions- 1000 and 1200 I've had my best luck using the spray cans.

.....that explains those pics of Raidens that are in pretty good shape compared to Zekes out in the tropics. Maybe my weathering needs to be more subtle...

Charles.....going to order some of that stuff...worth a try,,,,especially after seeing that 109 of yours....

Carlos:

I should have mentioned this earlier. I've recently discoverd what most have already been doing for years: thin down some Mr. SUrfacer 1000 or 1200 and use it as primer. It adheres well, sands well and even covers small blemishes. Plus it's lught gray in color and would be a great base for your yellow.

Just an idea, but I love the Mr. Surfacer products. The detractor is that it's lacquer based.

My best luck on painting yellow have been over a primer base of flat white or yellow zinc chromate.

Gamera, that is an interesting point on where the Raidens were stationed. They were operating from a more temperate climate on well established air bases, as opposed to the austere conditions of New Guinea or the Philippines or any other jungle airfields.

Carlos,  yes yellow is probably one of the biggest pains of any colour to spray. On my Oscars I ended up spraying several coats of Tamiya white primer as a base for the yellow. I'm not sure how the tan would work but it's worth a try.

Most Raidens were based in the Japanese home islands for bomber interception. They got a great deal of TLC so I'll agree that I'm not sure they'd show much wear. But hey - it's your model do it the way you want!

She's looking good so far and am looking forward to seeing her done!

Carlos, best of luck with the repaint.

Having looked at pics of quite a few Jacks they didn't seem to get as chipped up as some other IJN & IJA machines.

My Raiden is currently sitting on the shelf in disgrace as the flat coat has left a horrible milky finish.

I thought that I'd sorted this over the weekend, but no! So for now it's parked while I work on the E100,

Karl
