Welcome Betty!

I tried to sign Alex up last night, but ran into a glitch. Will get it worked out. He'll be signing in as AlexP. We started casting resin last night... on your marks.... get set!

Is everybody set with photo references? Need anything? I'm sure somebody on this build could help out...

I still wouldn't mind seeing those 2 pics of the 601st TD battalion. I have found 1 post-war picture in Austria and it didn't have anything but the star on the turret showing.

Chris,

I'll look through my reference, but the few pictures that I know I have of the M10's of the 601st have very few if any markings on them.

Hey Chris .... You will e-mail the finished pics to me and I will post them to the site.
As far as in progress pics go, standard hosting procedures will be in effect.

The e-mail address and the site address are both posted in my sigtag so they are easily accessible.

Robert,

I would like your opinion.........

The Resicast BARV kit comes with the mid VVSS system with the 1/2 circle track guide plates instead of the more common shaped track guide plates.

I've seen a few pictures of vehicles with this track guide plate, but not many (an in-construction photo of a M4A4 in the Hunnicut and a WWII French M7 during Normandy). Most of the pictures I have you really can't tell which track guide the vehicle has.

Do you think keep them, or scratchbuild some of the more common track guides?

What's your opinion?

Thanks.

Latch . I also have a picture of an M4A1 with them on (at least that pops into my head right away).

I'd leave them, just for something a little different unless ...... the return roller mounts are upswept, then I'd change them.

Thanks for your input Robert.

I'll keep them.

The VVSS system which is supplied with the BARV is of the earlier "non-upswept" trailing arm type.

What would be considered "starting early" ? Question [?]Question [?]

Well,
what happened was I took out all the pieces and lid them on the table, pushed them around a little ( someone else had mentioned this as a theraputic exercise to ease the craving to get rolling )

And well, I spilled some glue ....... I wasn't opening it to glue anything.....
you know........it just kind of spilled on the table...........
you know........then it got on some of the pieces .........
you know........then some of them happened to touch some of the others in precisely the way they would be put together......
you know......I turned around and it looked like the nose was all glued together ????

.......yeah that's it ......that's what happened Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)]Confused [%-)]

you know.........like I had almost meant to do it but didn't......really !
you know......stuff like that happens......

either that ..........or I think I may have been overcome with fumes from the glue.....
I think I started halucinating that it was actually Jan 15 ........

Yeah......maybe it was that too ! Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

Well, can I be fined for that - can I be "booted" ? It was uncontrolable !! I did admit my weaknessAshamed [*^_^*]Ashamed [*^_^*]

No, I really didn't.

Wanted to but I resisted !

I did cut some of the resin suspension from the casting ( i'm using tank workshop instead now ) and I did break a couple pieces and glued them together - but technically did not glue two different pieces together .............so I think I'm safe

Yeah, the blocks are huge and the pieces are wimpy ! Banged Head [banghead]

Thats why I did them now. I figured if I broke too many I could order more.

Ok guys question of the day. The return idlers on the Sherman tracks. What were they made of? Were they solid steel? Or were they hard rubber? Or steel with rubber coating? I want to know this so I know how to paint them, thanks

Steel. As were the return rollers on the V V SS. Where the end connectors rubbed on their edges they could get very shiny, burnished. On the HVSS they were rubber tired as were the return rollers.

Frosty,

There were several different Sherman ARV's. The Americans and the British both had them. And they were different. I am assuming you want to do a American M32.

I don't know of any link info., but one of the Axis and Allies book covered the M32 in depth. Lots of good pictures there.

Also, there is the Hunnicutt. You actually may be able to check out a copy of the Hunnicutt at the local library (maybe). It's were I saw my first Hunnicutt on the Sherman.

Millitary Miniatures in Review also did a special on recovery vehicles and once again, the old reliable M32 was there too.

I hope this helps some.
