Jeff - Such sad news . It is nice he had a good long life. I hope I can do the same.  Nothing wrong with wanting the ship models - better for them to go to someone who appreciates them then not.

Recently I saw a built up collection of built models being sold on ebay - The Auctions first description was ~ " From my Late Fathers collection, he had built models since he was a young boy "..

Man that broke my heart seeing his child sell off his models he built. Disapprove [V] I would have them displayed in a glass case in my living room if it had been me.

Thanks fellas. He was 92 and had been in poor health for quite awhile(obviously) So this wasn't exactley sudden. I really appreciate all the kind words.

He was also a modeler. He has a pretty nice collection of wooden ships that he did. I really don't want to sound crass but I am laying claim to those.

Regards,

Jeff

One of my favorite models Jeff! Well done.

Echo on all the condolences as well. May your family find peace and happiness when the grief passes.

Jeff, I too am sorry to hear about your Grandfather.  My best wishes go out to you and your family.

The Spitefire looks great.  Any seam issues aren't readily apparent.  I too will opt for a better quality kit next time around.

Jeff, I'm so sorry about you grand father. That's awful... That looks great, maybe it took your mind off of him a little. When you look at it in the future it may bring a smile to your face. Best wishes.

I meant to post these earlier but family stuff got in the way. My grandfather passed 2 days ago and that kept me a little busy.

This is actually a decent little kit. Too bad 48 hours didn't allow enough time to do it justice. Lots of seams and poor fit to deal with that I just didn't have time to fix. Next time we do this I will just do another Tamiya or Hasegawa kit.

Ironically, the decals were freaking nice!  They layed down with no problems at all.

Really great work from everyoneThumbs Up [tup] Sorry I wasn't as involved as last time but with everything going on, I felt like I was being pulled in 5 different directions at once. Frankly, I almost didn't even start this kit. I just wasn't feeling it.

Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Regards,

Jeff

Now I see those little notes on the instructions (what I was supposed to read them thoroughly before begiining construction? What kind of Calvin do you think I am?) saying when to apply certain parts and decals during the build...

well I got the lower decals on, but there will be lots of touch ups tomorrow when they are dry... I'll get some pics posted later on here.

Stik and Dave, looking real good! Good to know some other people are still working on this project like I am. Since the week has started, I've had to slow down. I have less time on the week days than on the weekends (obvious). But last night I added the ordnance. So decals and then I'm FINALLY finished!

Dave, I built an old LS Ki-43 Oscar kit the other day (circa 1975) and the decals gave me some trouble. I had to soak them for a while and they still wouldn't come easily off the paper back. I actually had to carefully peal them off myself. Yours look real great!

Looks like she's ready to knock some heads!!!

Thanks

Jon

Got the decals on last night and despite the fact that they must be at least 30 years old hey went down without much difficulty and snuggled down nicely.  The only problem was I tried using the tweezers as I normally do to pick the frst one up and it was so brittle that it just disintigrated where the tweezers touched it.  A small nic that was easy to touch up with some paint.  Just have to paint the yellow leading edge and propeller tips, dull coat and she's done.

Thanks guys! This one really has been a fun build. The decals are the most challenging part so far... All I really had to do was paint her white. But I will have to do some touch ups of the red and blue once they are all in place and dry.

Stik, that T-Bird is looking mightly slick there.  Can't wait to see it finished.

Thinking of trying to put the decals on tonight.  The future has had 6 hours to cure... Blindfold [X-)]  Should I go for it?  I'm thinking I would if I were still trying to make the deadline.

This build has been all about available time. I am lucky to get in a hour or two a day in the past couple days. Today I got the decals started. Now I am seeing where some should have been applied before final assembly. Live and learn.

Tomorrow the lower surface decals.

Good luck with the decals!

Exactly what I'm thinkng Bill.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I can always mask and paint them.

Scott, anytime I see a good one here on the forums I copy and paste it into my computer and later upload it to my own photobucket account.  You can also search photobucket under smileys for all kinds of good stuff.  Big Smile [:D]

Just an update. I have not forgot to finish my P-400 for this GB. But, have come down with the stomach flu. So have been laid up for the last 2 days and still feel like crap.

P.S. But Brett is right this still isn't that far off my normal build speed.

Finally back to where I was yesterday before the paint peeling incident.  Still had a little bit of lifting on the underside but I can fix that easily enough.  I'll let it set for awhile and then shoot some future this afternoon and then let the whole thing cure overnight.  Decals and yellow leading edges tomorrow and it'll be done.  Trying to keep my weekend down to less than a week. Thanks a bunch for the compliments guys.  There are currently 2 builds on the bench in need of paint, weathering and decals.  Hopefully I will have one of them done in the next couple weeks so I can have something to share Propeller [8-]

Here's my Tamiya 1/72 F4D-1 Douglas Skyray. This one was easy to build but the pitfall was that the decals were lousy. Don't know what happened there, but it took an extra evening to tame them. Still a little trimming to go, but I wanted to post her. She's a really pretty little bird, too.

Thank you Dave for hosting the GB. As always it was a lot of fun. Now, if anyone has an F3D-1 Skyknight, I know a buyer...

Keep on keepin' on the guys still building!
