I don't get it.

Then again I'm a bit slow on these things (or haven't inhaled nearly enough Lacquer thinner this weekend.)

Stikpusher thats a pretty clean looking F-16... can't wait to see how it turns out. And Kj200, you're showing your skills again by bring a classic kit up to modern stansards.

Amazing stuff! Karl 1957?  That has to be the oldest kit here!  Bet you make it look rather modern!

 Lewbud!

I have been inside one of those Ac-130 Gunships!  They are very wicked.  A monster in the darkness with no where to hide!  Surviving an attack by one is very unlikely.

Yours looks super! Glad it is on our side!

Oddman rush. That looks just like what we used to track at gunnery practice back in the day!  Think they were flown by the New Mexico National Guard then.

Fupes!  The man!  I think that Harrier looks better everytime I see it!  Same with Neu's Japanese Frank!   I can't put my finger on it but it seems to be missing something?  Hmmmmmmm thinking.........

Stikpusher! Smooth looking F-16! Can't wait to see it painted!

.40mm Hope you feel better quickly that sounds  like no fun!

Thanks Dave, I'll try to have it finished up by tonight or tomorrow night and post final pics! In any event, I've reclaimed the badge - good to know no one is a stickler for that sort of thing tho I was disappointed that I didn't finish in time!

Stikpusher, what were you using to mask the canopy on the F-16 if you don't mind my asking? Is that tape? One of my least favorite things to do is mask, and you seemed to make it look fairly easy with that stuff. I've been using liquid latex, which is easy to apply, just brush it on, but I tend not to get a very crisp line with it, especially for canopy work.

Nope...cough...cough... still needing them. Dead [xx(] LOL...

SOme excellent work going on here!  A superbly painted  Corsair of another era, an F-16ready for a masterpiece, a stunning teeny tiny Fokker, some odd-looking Japanese plane from Canada(?) and a sinister looking Herc.  YOWZA!!!  Any word from the others?  Are they still building?

I got a base coat of white on. I used MM Acrylic Semi Gloss white, but I think I thinned just a tad too much. It looks like a second coat will be in order before the decals go on.

Guys, some seriously impressive builds here, and all in such a short period of time.Bow [bow]

Due to the maintenance being performed on the forum over the weekend I was unable to post any pics or join in, which rather dampened the push on spirit.Ashamed [*^_^*]

However, although I didn't manage to finish the lil' Fokker due to other commitments getting in the way, here are some pics of where I did get to.....

I spent way too long on the cockpit.....

...not getting the fuselage closed up until Saturday night!

Reddy for the red, get it? Alright bad joke.Whistling [:-^]

The pre-shade was a very bad idea, and was the one thing which really killed any chance of completing this build in 48 hours.

The above was where I left it a 9 last night, but I'll do some more over the next few nights and finish it off.

Hey all you're not late till you quit! And some of the guys are on a delayed schedule anyways.

My little drama this morning was that although the Skyshark had counter-rotators, the geniuses at Mach 2 gave us all 6 blades with the same twist, and no it's not possible to turn them around.

Oh well.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Glad to see you've snapped out of your funk Dave.  Keep at it, she's looking good.

Just put the final coat of white on the landing gear and insides of the doors.  About to begin decalling the props as Minicraft included the yellow prop tips as decals.  Just got to paint the exterior of the bay doors, guns and a couple of sensor domes and that portion is done.

Oddman,

Nice job on the SLUFF!  Looking forward to seeing her finished up!

Dupes,

Thanks for the closeups.  Looking forward to seeing Mia's.

Dave,

Wish I could take credit for it, but that's part of the Tamyia workstand.  Best twenty bucks on a modelling tool I ever spent.

Sitrep:  With about 8 hours to go, the Spectre can now hide at night.  The props are now on the paint stand.  Pics follow.

Happy Birthday to you as well, btw! Happy B-Day [bday]

It certainly was a blast, and I'm 'in' for the next one...how many more of these can we do before you run out of excellent Calvin and Hobbes frames to use? Laugh [(-D]

Bud, the C-130 is looking awesome but what is that stand you have it on?  Are you opening up competition for Franks StyroStik stand?  (Just etween you and me his prices are getting up there Wink [;)])

Neu, the Frank is looking Frankaliciously sweet.  Please ost more pics when you get your camera back.

Dupes, thanks for the updated pics.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Any close ups of Mia's?

Oddman, good show!!!  I was getting worried that a number of people had been blocked out.  Glad you kept at it.

All, as for the badge, if you participated you earned it, even if you didn't finish.  The point of this build was to have fun and challenge ourselves to see what could be accomplished over a weekend. Please finish up any doo dads and wingnuts and post your final pics as soon as you can so that I can update the front page.  I've been posting pictures of the completed builds as well as the page where the rest of the pics can be found on it so keep them coming.

Congrats to all of you who finished! Some great looking stuff there. I've never seen an egg plane put together before, very nice. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I was locked out due to the site maintainance that was going on. Don't know how you all could still post because I couldn't even log in.

I must admit defeat though. I didn't reach the 48 hr deadline. The day I was to get most of my work done, I had some unexpected company that held me up for several hours.  This is how far I got:

Its about done, just no markings or ordnance attached. To think, if those several hours hadn't been taken up by something else, she would be finished. But I guess you can't plan for the unknown. I am going to finish it for sure with in a day or so but I have relinquished the group build badge. I'll keep you posted on the finished build.

Thanks all!

Jon

Took a few final pics of my Harrier so you guys would know who's was who's! Despite being very old (1980ish) and very grumpy (3-4minutes in water to even THINK about loosening from the paper), only had real issues with one of the decals silvering, and I still don't know why. The other ones laid down very well with some Micro Sol/Set during the marathon decal session. Some fit issues, mainly in the multiple-ring setup Fujimi came up with for the forward fuselage. Not sure what they were thinking there. If I were to do this again under less time constraints, I would definitely have applied a good bit more putty and tried to sand that to shape a bit better, most likely re-scribing the panel lines that were lost. You'll notice the back of the canopy has a pretty funky shape - there's no additional parts either on the clear or regular sprues to fill it, and the cockpit tub obviously isn't shaped to fit...?

So there you go. Overall very enjoyable, although next time I think I'm going to do some armor. Wink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Buddy- Looks like you are well on your way with that Herc, looking forward to the next update! Big Smile [:D]

-Neu- Great photos, love that Frank.  Of course, anything named Frank is good with me. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I just realized what I think was the best part of this GB.  For 48 hours, I got to see what it is like to be Aaron or Guy with their speed-builds.  Of course, I'm not as cool as those two but at least I got to see what it is like to finish a build in under 6 months. Sigh [sigh]

Hey guys...

Sorry for my absence, it seems like there has been some great builds completed while I was away... like Panzerjager's Pack Howitzer; Dupes, Mia's and Konigstiger's Harriers (wow) Frank's egg plane, and summit's PZL. Hopefully we'll have a few more trickle in in the next few days. Still looking forward to see that Skyshark bondo.

As asked, I took a few more photos of the Hayate. I must confess that I cheated a bit and worked on the model for an hour today... however since I worked for more time than I built over my 48, I think I can be forgiven. I fixed the scratches, final coated it with polly scale flat again and did a quick panel line.

Anyway here they are... again I apologize for the shoddy camera, maybe when I get my regular one back I'll take a couple of better quality ones.

Billy Bondo that Sky Shark rocks!  Can't wait to see her finished.

Stick, the Falcon is looking fine.  Looking forward to seeing her in T-bird livery.

Sitrep:  At roughly 29.5 hours into the build I was finally able to close her up.  The canopy to fuselage fit doesn't look too bad, will know once she's fully primered.  I've got the wheels and drop tanks painted.  Here's a couple of pics to peruse while she dries.

Scott, Stikpusher, same for you guys keep at it.  We want to see the finished pics.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes guys.  Other than the BBQ ribs and Toblerone/caramel Cheesecake it's been a pretty normal day.  Don't want to announce my age to the world you know. Whistling [:-^]

Frank and Sean, nice work gentlemen!

To those that had to abandon, let us know if and when you finish those kits.  I know I'd like to see them when they're done.

27 hours into the build and not much to report.  Got home from work about 9pm.  Spent 30 min or so decompressing then got to work.  Placed additional weight in the nose (probably a lot more than called for) and started the process that I hate the most when it comes to aircraft.  I HATE MASKING CANOPIES!!!!!  It took me over an hour to mask that booger, and I won't know how good I did until it comes off.  Just to reiterate I HATE MASKING CANOPIES!  However, the drop tanks have been primered and are just about ready for paint.  The micromask should be ready for me to paint the inside of the canopy.  Hopefully I can have her in the black before I decide to crash for the night.  Will post pics when I have something worth posting.

Here comes Captain Bondo. At 48 I'm not finished, but I'm satisfied with the progress so far. I had a couple of significant interruptions, plus I felt bad for Guy so I'm aiming for Tuesday. The Shark was a real challenge as a kit, but as I went along I really developed an affection for the prototype, so I put a lot of care into it, including scratchbuilding a cockpit, bulkheads, floor and all. All that's left are the misc. stencils, wheels and a tailhook that I'll have to make.

Mach 2 1/72 Douglas A2D-1 Skyshark.

The Ford has a little farther to go, but I'm liking it. Cute little kit practically snapped together. There are A LOT of decals though, so I'm going to tackle it tomorrow night with fresh eyes.

Tamiya 1/72 Douglas F4D-1 Skyray.

That's it for now. I'll post again tomorrow evening. Thanks Dave, this is fun!
