I think everyone's time should have expired by now (finished yet stik?), so I thought I'd jump on and do a bit of a rant.

Firstly there are some excellent builds here in the group. I always learn something from a group build, in this case... I shouldn't be so fussy with my builds, things like thinking about gluing a part on for three days, before finally doing it. I can see my builds being a little quicker now.

Those that finished on time... well done, and those that didn't meet the deadline... good effort.

40.mm - don't you hate when you come down with the lurgy, see you at the next one.

Alex - love that Krupp, I could put it next to my tank and we'd have half a diorama

Bob - great start, pity you didn't have the time to continue

Bondo Bill - possibly too ambitious, maybe next time pick something you are less passionate about so you can just slap it together. What you did looks great anyway.

Mia - Fantastic work, especially for a novice.

Frank - what can I say... eggcelent, pity the decals didn't work out for you.

Doug - great dio, very ambitious for a 48 hour timeframe

Dupes - excellent build. However I think the decal on the tail should have been LM (Lycra Man)

Jeff - looking good at the last post, got that photobucket sorted yet?

Karl - Pity the pre-shading slowed you down, you possibly could have sacrificed that step for the sake of the schedule. Lovely work.

Andrew - turned out great, despite the great masking disaster.

Buddy - the AC 130 looks the part, pity about your mask disaster as well.

Guy - try again for the next one.

Scott - you build at the same speed I usually do.

Neu - the finish turned out great, love the panel technique

John - how about some pics of the finished project. What you have posted so far looks great.

Osher - enamel paint and English weather? Good effort all the same.

Panzerjager - the howitzer looks great. You build too fast!

Dave - looking good, pity you didn't get it done. Too much time hosting on the computer, not enough time at the bench building?

Aaron - all nighter... excellent work (even though you did call in the extra assistants), loved the vid, good to see you got that fourth engine sorted.

Stikpusher - finished yet? Where's them photos?

Sean - that looks shmick, excellent work on that flying machine.

Wirraway - maybe next time?

I hope I didn't miss anyone. We had a few go AWOL, or possibly still MIA.

If we did a week long weekend of madness, I'll probably end up in divorce court!

Anyway enough for now. As promised I will do a quick review of the Tiger shortly.

I know how you feel. I was very close to stripping and starting over again as well. I was finishing up the weathering on the A-7 and got a liiiiiiiittle carried away with washes and oil streaks. There is a big dark blob in the middle of the starboard wing. I'm not going to strip it though, I'll simply airbrush over it. Shouldn't be too bad, just frustrating and I wanted to cry. I can never seem to leave well enough alone. I need to learn that when the model looks good - STOP TOUCHING IT. But I always say 'hey, if it looks that good, imagine how it'll look if I do [fill in the blank with a technique that I am neither familiar with or capable of doing but saw it once in a magazine]'. So, slowly but surely this project will get done. Corrections tonight, and hopefully decals, then ordnance. Then done....thank God.

Okay, I feel better now.  Stripped all the paint off and I am starting over.  Sigh [sigh]

On the bright side I got to fix some seams that I was not happy with before but was willing to overlook in hopes of making the deadline.

Mia welcome to this asylum! You guys musta had fun together! My wife sat with me typing her paper most of the weekend, but she doesn't like pro football so I lost her on Sunday. I'm still working on the Skyray.

Those Harriers are sweet.  Now you need some Argie Skyhawks!

Mia, for your first solo build I have to say it looks fantastic!  I'm glad you had fun and that you could join Dupes and the rest of us lunatics (you do know that Dupes is a lunatic don't you? Whistling [:-^] sorry Dupes, the truth is out).  Big Smile [:D]  Hope to see you and your work around the forum more. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

First off I want to send a Job Well Done out to everyone!  The pics look awesome! Looks like everyone had a lot of fun being glued to their benches this past weekend Big Smile [:D]

As for me.  1/72 Fujimi Harrier.  Pics are below.  I want to start off saying this is my very first build that I have completed solo start to finish.  It was my first offical experience using the airbrush on a not practice model and only the second time I had ever used decals. I am pretty impressed with my work but I can definitely tell areas in which I need to have some practice in. I really enjoyed being able to work side by side with Dupes on this project.  He was able to offer LOTS of helpful advice. Lets see... the areas that I had trouble in.  Masking the canopy was a real challenge (and showsSad [:(]).  I also had difficulties with the decals... not dude to poor quallity but to lack of experience with them.  Overall it was a great experience!!  Sorry for the poor quality of pics... i took them this morning with my iPhone which usually takes decent pics.

Enjoy!!

How anyone could fly the thing is beyond me. Toggle switches and steam guages up the gazoo. Unlike the 'raider of course it had two plants, and an ejection seat proper. Late model A1D's had a Yankee extraction seat, but the Shark had a proper banger. Otherwise kind of similar. The failure mode seems to be that driving both props took all 4000 hp, and if one power unit failed, the pilot was instantly given a pair of airplanes flying in opposite directions, and had to unclutch the dead unit FAST. Could a Wyvern be in my future?

Thanks Dave.  How's the Shinden coming?

40.mm,

Get well.  In order to get you back on your feet as soon as possible I'm sending one of my nurses to you.  She'll go easy on you, maybe.

Buddy, your right up there with Aaron in my books for attempting a four engine build in one weekend.  Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

Alex, I love the krupp.  Would like to find one in 1/72 scale.  Well done Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Bondo, great looking build also.  Those turbo jet fighters look way cool but had such a short service life with the introduction of the jets.   You did n amazing job on that Mach2 kit.  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank and Aaron,

Thanks.  Will have to look into the fine tipped black pen Mac.  The grey is the primer I shot before the black.  I masked the edges of the panes with thin strips of Tamiya tape then filled the center with MicroMask.  With the exception of a couple of panes, I trimmed around the tape with a blade before I peeled it off to prevent the paint from lifting.  Like I said earlier, next time I won't use primer, just the color coats.

Bill,

Excellent job on the Skyshark.Thumbs Up [tup]  Just out of curiosity, if it was based on the Skyraider why didn't they just revamp it's cockpit?

Alex,

Nice job on the Krupp.

To Stick and all the others still working, keep up the good work and post pics!

The Shark is done.

Mach 2 1/72 Douglas A2D-1 Skyshark. This a/c took the A1D Skyraider airframe and installed two Allison turbojets in the lower hull, side by side. Each drove a prop, counter rotators, Although a very fast and very promising concept, pure jets soon outclassed her.

For all the crud that Mach 2 gets for their kits, this model was as satisfying to me as any I've built in a while.  A flashmonster for sure, but after cleanup it really represented it's subject well. I decided early on to build a real cockpit, which after a bunch of research revealed itself to be the original Douglas Skyray set up. I scratched it up without too much trouble.

So, my model was a pretty easy Tamiya Shake&Bake, so I decided to do someting intresting with the weathering. I tried out this new technique for the wooden panels, tell me what you think Big Smile [:D]

Okay here are the pictures of my finished build:

This is my favortie view...

I'm pretty pleased with it, one of the quickest builds i've ever done, and it came out pretty well IMO...

C&C are always welcome!

Excellent Lewbud! Very spooky!  The Skeleton decal is too cool not to use I agree. The Canopy glass part? Is that from fighting the masking stuff on so small a part I am guessing.  I have had some luck using  those plastic dental flosser sticks to scrape and neaten up the edges. The plastic is soft enough not to scratch the glass plastic but sharp enough to neaten things up.  You can use your sprue cutters on it and custom sharpen the end as well. If there is future on the glass after I am done I simply use a dot brush and reapply the future with it and it covers things up nicely. If thepaint was damaged and the primer is showing through  with the black color one of those very fine tipped caligrophy type art pens can touch that up as well with a steady hand. Of corse  it may be small enough not to notice without the camera zoom!  Curse the zoom!   Depends on what you ate for dinner?  Whistling [:-^]

Great job on such a complicated multi engined quick build!

Buddy- Welcome across the finish line mate!  That's a spooky looking specter you have there- well done! Approve [^]

I gotta admit, those egg jokes crack me up too! Laugh [(-D]

And, I still giggle like a 7 year old whenever I look over at that Egg Corsair.

I'm sticking a fork in her and calling this one done.  I need to repaint the guns, get some clear red and green paint for the wingtip lights, other than that I'm through.  Learned a few things as I underestimated this kit.  Not real happy with the cockpit glass, won't use primer next time.  Should I build one in this series again, I may forego masking and use black decal sheet for the windows.  Don't know if this specific a/c carried the minigun firing skeleton, but it looked cool so I added it. Here's the pics:

I need to work on something big now.  Where's that 1/72 P-26?

Neu,

Mac is taking a friendly swipe at Dupes (aka Lycra Man).  His avatar used be him standing beside his road bike, in full roadie (lycra) attire.  At least he wasn't Tri Guy.Yuck [yuck]

Oddman,

Next time use a combo of both.  Use the tape to outline the frame(s) and then fill in the pane with the masking agent.  Once you're through with the color coats and clear, take a new blade and gently score the paint around the tape.  Take tweezers and gently peel the tape off.  It should take the mask off as well.

Sitrep:  With two and a half hours to go, the props are done and she's sitting on her wheels.  Fixing to glue the tanks on and then start the decalling.  The next pics will be of her finished.

Ah Neu Dupes will get it as it is an old joke from the 251 GB he did!  That's also where he got the endearing nickname of fupes!

The spandex is a reference to all the cyclic enthusist that wear those tight fitting bicycle riding outfits. It has been rumored that it is not so much for riding comfort but to impress the girls... get it?  Dave's fault yet again!

But I finished my little kit 23 hours and 17 minutes. Yay! Big Smile [:D]

I'll be posting both progress pics, and finished pics soon.  Still need to take the final shots, but it's all completed.

Everybodys builds both finished and not, are all looking EXCELENT!!! Clown [:o)]

... or in some cases eggselent...

i know, i know, that joke has been cracked too many times. We really need to get over these over boiled jokes. I'd better stop soon, or there'll be an eggspensive bounty on my deviled head Evil [}:)]
