Jason, sorry to hear the terrible news. I know the feeling as when I was stationed in Okinawa I had some family emergencies. Be strong and dont worry about the modeling, it will always be there when you are ready.

Jason, Sorry to hear of your loss.

Don't worry about modelling right now, go take care of what needs to be done.  We'll be here when you're ready to come back.

hey Gents,

I will be gone the rest of this month till after New Years due to my fathers passing. He passed away in his sleep from conditions caused by his cancer. I am rushing to get tickets home. Unfortonatly all my modeling supplies and kits will be left here in Japan and I will not be able to resume until early January.

My 1/48 262 was coming along... was almost ready for primer. I hope to have this finished before the group build ends.

Charles, everyone is safe here.

My daughter loved it.  My son, not so much.  My daughter was catching snow flakes with her tongue.  We built a snow man - my first attempt, not very big and not very convincing.  Looked more like a penguin without the beak.

This area shuts down whenever it ices or snows I guess because we aren't accustomed to this kind of weather.  It's the earliest recorded snowfall in Houston in history.

Steven you're the victim of global warming...I hope you and yours kept safe, though. even here in KY people panic at the sight of snow. How did your kids like it?

I am hoping to get my build painted today but this is what's going on in the Houston, Texas area today:

These are a couple of shots from my back yard.  It's quite cold here, really too cold to work in the garage which is where my work shop is.

Staggering, Frank -- I lift my magnifying specs to you, sir! I would never credit that something so tiny would look so good!

I'm hoping to get back to mine shortly, the canopy is finally attached and I can do the express masks in the next session. I've been concentrating on 1000 Roadwheels and Achtraden recently, and have five models to finish before the end of the year, not counting the 262! Good thing this build goes til the end of March!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Wow Frank that thing is crazy small. I bet you have'nt taken your visor off once during the build.

I layed down a coat of Future on my 262 and I am waiting for it to dry right now. Tomorrow decals! Still waiting on the return of my camera so I can post some pics. I am guessing it will proball be a bout the same time I finish her up.

I added the decals to the lil' 262 today, all 30 of them! Shock [:O]

I also masked and painted the tires.  Thank goodness for that punch and die set to cut the tiny circle masks. Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks guys Cool [8D].  Right now, there are no other german birds in the stash, so I'll have to peruse the instruction sheet looking for parts to be painted RLM 02.

I probably won't get around to firing up the compressor until sunday, so maybe I'll skip a few steps and start work on those engines.

A little bit of good news to report, my Aires cockpit and wheel bay set arrived yesterday having been ordered online while I was under the influence of the demon drink, so at last construction can commence Big Smile [:D].  First step will be to very gently give the resin a wash in some warm soapy water tonite to remove any release agent.

Cheers

dupes- LOL, must be that good vibe I was sending your way!  Glad to see you here, I added your Trumpeter kit to the roster, hoping it's a go!

Mo- You're right about that, it really does look like some strange launch pad.  Caan you imagine if they had taken a 262, added V-2 rocket motors, and launched that baby?  Man, what a ride! Tongue [:P]

Crusher- Great info on the MM bottles!  I shall file that tidbit away in case it comes up again.  Or, I shall just remember to send people your way when it comes up again. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Fred- Sorry to hear about the setback.  I had one too on the little 262.  After all of the painting and masking and Future coats, I decided that the contrast wasn't enough between the two colors on the wings after blending them.  So, I had to mask off the dark brown and redo the green last night.  Tonight, I masked off the green and touched up the dark brown.  Just gave it all a coat of Future a few minutes ago, hope to start the decals tomorrow.

Fred- when faced with that problem, I sometimes raid the stash for anything related, say in your case other Lufties, and spray all the parts on the trees that would also be RLM 66 or whatever. Even if I'm wrong it gets em primed, and sometimes I'm right!

Man that stinks Fred. I think we have all done similar things. Everytime you use the airbrush it takes a good amount of time to clean it properly so we try to cut corners sometimes. Best to walk away and go at it agian tomorrow. Being agravated while you are building never works out good.

I touched up my lightgreen top color and got the demarkation line nice and clean without loosing my preshading. Tonight its time for alot of small dunklegrun spots. I think I am going to do it in stages to keep my hand from cramping up. Agian sorry no pics till I get my camera back this weekend.Sad [:(]

I've broken more than my fair share of both MM and Tamiya paint bottles.  Sometimes, no amount of soaking in hot water or thinner will get them unglued, so I use a pipe wrench to grip the top.  Well, apparently, you can squeeze too hard Banged Head [banghead].  Luckily, while having broke the bottle, the paint stayed put, so no mess to clean up.

So, last night was an excercise in futility.  One of those "one step forward, 12 steps back" nights.  I was working on adding the front nose gear to the gun bay assembly.  First, I glued the PE on upside down.  Then, I didn't want to power up the airbrush to paint such a tiny part, so I tried to paint brush it.  Came out absolutely terrible.  So, for the 15 minutes I spent building and painting, I spent another 45 cleaning off the paint and fixing all the little flaws created by my impatience.  Basically, after an hour of work, I'm exactly at the same point I was at, before I started.

Tempestjonny it must be just us boys with the strong hands here in Conneticut!

Mobious I love the Testors MM acrylic paints but the jar design is outdated by about 20 years. They constantly dry up when sitting and  the piece of paper that the use to seal the jar just does'nt work. If Tamiya had a more complete line of colors I would use them exclusively.

I got a new jar of RLM lightgreen at the hobbystore today so I am going back at it tonight. I check the RLM numbers and they are still incorrectly numbered on the Testors jars. Lichtgrun should be RLM 82 and they have RLM 83 on the bottle. Dunklgrun should be RLM 83. I just go by the names as they are actually correct on the jars just the RLM numbers are incorrect.

Hey Frank, awesome paint on the little 262, fella...I like the paint stand to, Looks like some kind of rapid deployment launch platform...

Paintjarcrusher, err..Soulcrusher, sorry to hear about the busted paint jar. I'm not a big fan of MM for that reason. On the bright side, a couple of those cute nurses would make great paint shakers...

You gotta have some strong hands to crush paint bottles, geez!  Mental note: watch out for this guy. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Be careful when you go to pick up that MM RLM 83, as I have read that this color is mixedup with their RLM 82.  I remember dupes and someone else running into this problem.  FYI- Tamiya XF-61 is a really close match for RLM 83. Thumbs Up [tup]
