Sweet, Gig.

There's probably a fair amount of red primer in areas not directly exposed to the weather. That cable probably goes to a relay in series in the gun trigger circuits, and is on the gun bay bulkie.

Why did Fred care about the blue bottles? Oh, yeah, she's visible!!

Very nice!

Bish

Doesn't look like the new forum is going down well, but it might grow on us after a while. I see we have found the edit link, but there doesn't seem to be a Quote one. This was over used at times but comes in handy if you want to responed to a post from some time before.

nyway, back to the important stuff. I have now finished the Ostwind so its full speed ahead with my first ever 262. Here some pics i took last weekend of the compeletd pit and altered tail section.

The pit is mostly Eduard pre painted PE. Its the first time i have used this and i love it.

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg111/Bish_012/2010_01060025-a.jpg?t=1260372783

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg111/Bish_012/2010_01060027-a.jpg?t=1260372828

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg111/Bish_012/2010_01060028-a.jpg?t=1260372869

The tail section is already altered with the cutout, but looking at the pic of this aircraft i felt it wasn't quite right so sanded some away to give what i think is a more accurate angle. It also came with the streathaning band engraved, but i felt this wasn't right. So i added one useing lead foil.

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg111/Bish_012/2010_01060029-a.jpg?t=1260372894

Since these pics, the fuselage has been put together, the tail and cockpit added and the wings put together, they just need fitting to the fuselage. The wheel bays have been painted and just need weathering. I will get some more pics up at the weekend, by which time i should almost be ready to start painting.

The quote function is there, you just hit reply (not quick reply) and then click on quote at the bottom of the original post.  Painful yes, intuitive no.

Now back to important thing, Bish that 262 cockpit looks stunning although the last photo is a little blurry.

By the way why was a tail strengthening band required, I didn't know the 262 had a problem in this area?

OK boys and girls...oh, right...ain't no chicks up in this sausage fest Crying  LOL.

Anyway, today was a busy day in modeling land, so there are many updates and pics to prove it.

First, I finished up the nose gear assembly;

Here, we can see the gun camera and the wiring.  Where the wiring goes, no one knows.  No pictures or diagrams show the recording device.  One line diagram showed the wiring disappearing into gun support wall, so that's where it's going.

This shows the nose strut return assist spring.  Originally, Eduard supplied a PE part for this spring.  But, the part was entirely too short, so I made a new one from solder.  It also shows the compressed air tanks used to clear jams in the gun breaches.  The only hint of these tanks was a line drawing I came across.  There's nothing showing any of the plumbing, so your guess is as good as mine.  The color comes from a pic of an air tank attached to the 20mm canon that's on display.

These two Show the overall assembly.

The second update is the Jumo-004 engine.  Trumpeter was good enough to make it out of 30 parts.  Plenty of detail, plenty of headaches.  It's painted using various MM acrylics and Talon powders.  This was the easy part.  Next step is the plumbing.  Apparently, I really, really hate myself

Enjoy.

Dupes, that may be but I'm betting that when it snows in Maine, it sticks around for more than a few hours.

We were back up in the high 60s, low 70s yesterday.

THere are a lot of "passings" happening here..my sincere condolances to all of you: Jason, Dirk, etc. I hope they are all in a much better place and at peace.

It might be slow, but I kinda like the "updated" looks.

Thanks steve. I know the pics ain't brilliant. Trying to work out how to use a new camera, just getting lighting and stuff right, especially on close up stuff.

Luckyly my modelling is better than my photography.

Yeah Fred the weather is suppose to be pretty crappy all over. I have to service Mum's BMW in the morning and then run a couple of errand but I hope to be back inside by lunch where its warm and dry and putting my stickers on the 2a.

Frank can you believe that! I am now useing the current smiley that is kicking and screaming as a protest. If you want to see a forum with the absolute best smille selection click this link then scroll down to the last reply on any topic and click advanced. They have something like 200 different smiley's

This new layout is all kinds of whackadoo.

Anyway, if tomorrow's weather goes as planned Storm Lightning, I may get a lot more work done on this bird.  I guess there's an upside to having to use sick and personal days before the end of the year.

Randy- Right on!  Hope you are able to join us soon.

Mike- If you click on the "more" icon in the upper right, the edit tool is there.  I just tried it to make sure it works for updating page 1.  Thank goodness it worked!

Crusher- WHAT???  No more pirate icon?  THAT'S IT, WE'RE OUTTA HERE!!!  LOL, J/K.  Bummer though, I really liked that one.

Dirk- I am very sorry to hear of your Father's passing too, my thoughts and prayers are with you as well.

Mo- I updated page one for you, it's the -1a, right?

Jason,

I feel your pain. My father passed last Saturday morning. Fortunately for me when I've not been handling arrangements I've been able to bury myself in my modeling projects. Best of luck to you and your family.

I hear you Frank. I hope they haven't mucked up this great thread we have going here and made it a pain in the butt to post and keep up with our other build mates. I already left a lenghtly thread over in the suggestions forum about everything I though was wrong with this new set up. I hope they  can get it all worked out and we can go back to what we do best. Being silly and building models! Frank would you believe they even deleted my pirate smiley!!! Now thats dirty pool!Crying

Woah! This new format is a jolt... Where's the edit tool? Where's...? If we can't edit posts we'll be in do-do with the way we run Page 1 of group builds, not to mention updating our listings in the personal tally...

I got the canopy masks onto my Tamiya A-1a and some 66 over the struts -- pics forthcoming -- but the paint really shows up what a poor fit these parts are. I now have to decide what to do about that...

Cheers, Mike/TB379

PS: I'll get to reading back stuff ahortly, promise!

Seems to be some serious teething issues around here.  Lots of new features, but everything takes FOREVER to load!  Hopefully, people will continue to check in when they can.

Jason: Sorry to hear about your loss. At least the suffering is over. I have a 96 year old grandmother in a rest home. Her mind is all but gone but her body keeps on ticking. The good lord can't seem to find a reason to take her though. Sometimes it makes you wonder.

Daywalker: That is one tiny bird you got there. I don't know how you guys find the patience to work with things that small. 1/48 is enough to drive me nuts.

I am progressing on my 262 but not fast enough. I have started to detail out the nose gear bay and the weapons bay. This hasegawa kit has a step down in the after the first cannon that I don't see in any photos. I need to fill this in somehow. I also need to start over on the bulkheads for the cockpit as they do not fit inside the fuselage and finish up my B5N2 Kate for the Guadalcanal Build which I started before this one. Too many kits and not enough time.

BTW I just wanted to remember Pearl Harbor Day which was yesterday and wanted to post my sincere thanks to any pearl vets that might be listening out there. Watched Tora! Tora! Tora! for the I don't know how manyieth time but I never get tired of it. I make the wife and kids sit through it every year. Happy Modeling!

Well I finally started on my Mistel 4.  Have the "bomb" about 80% complete and I ma working on the top 262.  Some pictures I've seen have the bomb unpainted but I think I am going to do each plane in a different camo.

Unfortunatly my mobile connection is terrable, so un less i happen to get a decent connection during the week, i will post the pics next weekend. I have just finished the Ostwind, so by then i will have alot more done. I also haven't been able to check out everyone elses builds, so will do that next weekend to.

Frank -   That is Such an Outstanding Mini 262 Bow [bow]  I am in awe of your ability to work in such a minute scale. Blindfold [X-)] How did you keep track of all those decals and keep your sanity ?  Just wait a few more years and you will be building 1/24 stuff like some others fellows over 40 I know. I do'nt know I thought Daywaster was pretty funny even though it isn't very flattering but we do mean it with love Frank.

Frank did you wreck your little race car agian. Mabye a better name for you would be Kyle Bush! You have to watch NASCAR to understand that one.

Why can't people from California and South Texas ever drive when the roads get a little wet. I can usally do at least 30 to 40 miles an hour in a snow storm with my Subaru and never even come close to wrecking. Looks like I'll have to come down there and give some of you driving lessons!

I wanted to put the stickers on tonight but i have another lovely headache and the bright light at the workbench just does'nt do much to help it so tomorrow I think I'll sit down tomorrow and have a go at them while I am watching my Giants blow another football game.

Man am I glad I don't live in Houston!  Looks cold there! Shock [:O]Wink [;)] You shoulda seen all the traffic accidents on the way home from work this morning!  The  Dew set in aboyt 4-5AM and the bridges all got a good glazing of black ice.  It was worse than the time  Frank and Bondo hijacked the carnival bumper cars cuz the clover leaf ramps and such were literally littered with smashed cars, ambulances and flying debries like bumpers and fenders.    I was glad I made it home without incident!  Many roads were closed.

Jason keep the good memories and let the rest run the course. Your father will be missed.

Frankin squinter!  I love it  the new Daywalker handle!  I can't believe you haven't posted a pic of the new toy here yet Frank!

 The mini 262 is astonishing!

Hmmm what else !  Love the Gun compartments and little additions you fellows did!  Really adds to it. The Gun Barrels don't show through the front ports at all though? I thought maybe they would be seen there.

Um  Guy where are ya?

Beautiful, Frankensquinter! Only, umm, she's gonna have some pitching problems. I can see the poor guy yanking back on the stick for all he's worth as it shoots straight off the end of the runway. Zowie on the scale!

Have a great weekend guys. Jason, godspeed and we'll all be thinking about you and what family means. Are you coming here?
