ME-262: Reich Defender II 10/09-7/10

Well, I finally have a mockup.  Nothing's permanently attached yet, just kinda stuck together.  As you can see, she's not a tail sitter.  That's thanks to the front and mid gas tanks being filled with steel BBs.

But for now, it looks like I'm at an impasse, due to the weather.  I need to spray the clear side with Future, but it's too cold to spray (even indoors) and the piece is too large to dip.

 Frank thanks for the kind words, Actually the photo of the nose gear doesn't have a wash yet. I painted OD as a shadow color to the base RLM 02, then added a small amount of light yellow to the base color as a highlight color. I will be adding an oil wash after sealing with an acrylic clear coat.

I like it Mo, great legs!  What do you use for washes on the details there?  It shows up very well in the photos, but doesn't look at all overdone.

Raptordriver - sweet build!

Thanks Frank, I built the pit while I was away from the bench at a friends house. It was abit difficult to paint the gauge faces after assembly. I've done a little to the nose gear, something I can't remember ever modeling before. Most, if not all of the planes I've built, have been the tail dragger variety. I finally understand the ruckus about the torque scissor now. I had the plumbing for the airbrake finished when I noticed that the plane I'm modeling didn't have it. Had to remove the scissors and add the mounting bracket.

The pneumatic brake line was fashioned from a bit of .020" aluminum wire. The only mount the kit strut had was the center one located just above the oleo. It was smoothed and drilled, the wire formed and fitted, then additional mounts were added with thin lead foil. (*NOTE: when using lead foil, don't eat it and wash your hands after use.) Not a big update, just to let you know that things are still going on.

Raptordriver I like it !!! Well done on your first attempt at weathering, I will tell you it looks much better than my first attempts. Notice the word " attempts" LOL.

Daywalker I wish to offically enter my build, the 1/48 Monogram Me 262A-1a. I will attempt a mottled camo paint job, my first. Hope I can do it justice, it will be mostly an OOB build, but for seatbelts and maybe a bit of wire here and there. I should be able to start the last week on January.

raptordriver  really liking that alot . Theres just somthing about all of Bartels Red 13 aircraft, but this has to be my favorite. For some reason it just stands out. I plan on getting another Acedamy 1/72nd kit just to do that same aircraft. If it comes out like that, i will be well chuffed.

Very nice raptordriver, the weathering looks great. the Promodeller's wash really brings out the panel lines nicely.

Started on the Me 262, The tamiya pit went together nicely. Added  controls to the port side with stretched sprue, a few items on the starboard side also from stretched sprue and the harness from masking tape and wire, using the kit decal as a reference. 

Well here it is, compared to the Monogram kit this is good competition. This is one of the first times attempting to weather. I used promodellers wash and chalk for the gun stains.Last, I normally spray a flat coat out a can. This time I used a airbrush. Well here it is.

Sounds like everyone got some cool stuff for Christmas, all I got was this lump of coal. Hmm, maybe I can grind it up and use it for soot stains. Thanks Santa!

I have a self-imposed moratorium on new kits (because it takes me forever to get anything done ), but my wife got me the Revell repop of the Wright Flyer. A gift or a punishment, you decide.

Jeremy, shame about the damage but I'm sure it wont take much fixing, just a pain in behind I suppose.

I haven't been around much but I'm still working on my 262. I don't have any progress pics but I did want to show one thing.

I'm building the 1a/U3 recc bird. Dragon decided to bag the camera fairings in the same bag as those darn rubber tires. I've never had a problem with rubber tires but I've heard alot about the problems they cause. Here's what happens...

You can see where the plastic melted. When I removed the rubber tires, the plastic was all gooey.

Sorry it's not an update... hopefully one soon.

I received a 1/48 Minicraft P-38 F-5E from tempestjohnny in the FAAGB gift exchange, and a 1/32 Trumpeter AV-8B Harrier II from a VERY generous friend!

Hope everyone had a great christmas. I got a great kit from the Secret Santa GB from Jeaton, an Eduard 1/48 FW 190A=8. What a great looking kit with masks and PE set, tons of building options also. On top of that my daughter ordered me a 1/32 Tamiya F-4J. Cant wait to get my hands on that sucker. Hope everyone else did well in the plastic catagory

I will be away from my computer on Xmas Day so I am going to wish you all a very Merry Christmas today.  I will be back during the weekend.

WOO-HO!!!!  I get the rest of the week off!!!!!!!

The Me262 had been taunting me for a month - the box sitting there on my desk,  But the work is done for a few days - and even though I have a Secret Santa package for Friday, I have most of Thursday to get back on the 262.

I have been inspired by the other planes' progress - so I am hopefull on getting to show off my attempts to you all soon.

I would like to take a moment to wish everyone here a Very Happy Holiday Season!  Thank you all for making this GB what it has become- I look forward to seeing many more builds from everyone!  Have a safe and happy holiday!

Finally back on track.  After fighting tooth and nail with that second engine nacelle, I'm finally getting a move on, once again.  I ended up sanding off most of the detail on either end, just trying to get the ends to fit.  Finally got my pounce tool and was able to replace the missing rivet detail and rescribe the panel lines.

Should hopefully have some more updates photos this weekend.

I can relate to that. This is my first model aircraft since I got back into the hobby about ten years ago, and I've never painted mottle camo before. Examples in this thread have been a real inspiration though, and I'm quite optimistic about the final results.

On thinking about it, neither have i. Theres only a little motteling on thetail of the C-1a i am doing so might be a nice way to break myself in.

I only do 1/72nd aircraft, firstly as thats what i started on in the hobby and have just stuck to it, and second as i always build my kits as Dio's. i just find it easier for space and all the extra bits to go with them.
