Still another 18 months till I hit the big 40 thankfully.

Nice score on the 263. If memory serves the Russians flew it after WWII.

It had a secondary combustion chamber allowing re-lights and the ability to cruise, rather than just glide.

A very happy Birthday to you FRank!!!!

I thought this was a funny thing to turn up in a search for Hellcats!

In the spirit of Franks new found senility from old age I am working on another Me-262 plus 1 a 263?  Go figure?

Poor thing just looked neglected and abused.

One of those short run kits that has tricky fitting parts but I am whipping it into shape!  Kinda an improved Me-163 Comet I think that was only made in prototype but It's kinda cool and diff?

Dave what is this about needing to use your model room for visitors!  Oh man!  I guess it depends on your visitors.

Hey Dirk, it is indeed the Trumpeter 1/32 visible kit.

Karl got a link to those online walkarounds?

Great work being turned in by everyone so far (and lots of interesting technical data to boot!). Was planning on hitting the bench last night after the game, but had the wind sucked outta me after seeing my Yanks take one on the chin. That was tough to watch (but Lee was amazing). Hoping for better results tonight at both venues.

Karl - here's some cool info on V167 and it's nose mounted "pitot"...

Here's some pics of the first prototype Me 262 V1 stage 1 before the BMW p-3302 turbines were hung from the wings (V1 stage 2)...

and V9 with it's modified racer canopy...

Some neat stuff I thought I would share. Thumbs Up [tup]

Great stuff here so far from everyone. I finally got some more serious bench time last night while watching the World Series. The fit of the Tamiya 1/48 262 kit is just beautifull. I also noticed just a couple of small things that were already mentioned. The engine nacelles in the front need a bit of pressure to push them up a bit to meet the wing. No big deal but something to watch out for. The second one that was just mentioned is the two fuel filler panels right next to the fuselage seam just forward of the canopy. I took out the small file and scraped the seam cafefull without wiping out the two acess panels then went back over them carefully with the scribe. I cleaned up and painted up both engine assemblies and also attached the wing to the fuselage. Man this is one sweet kit. I am already looking for a 1a version now to go along with the 2a. Plus I have a nice set of aftermarket decals for a 1a that I would like to use.

I thought the fuzziness was due to dropping the parts on the floor while the paint was still wet!

That's why mine are fuzzy.Big Smile [:D]

Fred, you might be better off with one of the online walk aronds such as Guy posted a while back.

Which Squadron book have you got the In Action or In Focus.

Can't remember which one was in the LHS but it was pretty good as an overall review of the 262, though not much ggod for your purposes.

Finally received my kit, today Party [party].  I didn't realize it had so many clear parts.

In fact, it has two clear fuselage halves, but no solid ones.  Plus it gives you enough clear parts to do two visible engines, or two solid, or one and one.  But, both wings are solid.

So, the question becomes, do I two visible halves and two visible engines or only one visible side with one visble engine or some combination?

And another question, can anyone recommend a book that shows clear, color detail?  I got the "In Action" book and it's pretty much a waste.  It's 30 pages of fuzzy, black and white, exterior shots.  Great if I wanted to build a black and white, out of focus, jet.  Not so great for much  else.

So give me some direction here, guys.  I have an opportunity to build this kit up with wiring and plumbing up the wazoo, if I can get decent reference of it.  We all know you guys want to see me suffer doing this, so come on and help a brotha out Laugh [(-D].

I've got a really cool book at home... "Messerschmitt Me262: Variations, proposed versions and project designs series".

Lots of pictures from early drawings to test aircraft, the Me-109TL and others. I'll try to scan some pictures later when I get home... very cool stuff! Thumbs Up [tup]

Found some good pics on an Italian website, some of them even feature aircraft.Wink [;)]

Check out that mottle, and the 02 bomb.

And speaking of tail draggers, as Bondo was......

..and the next step, the v5 with fixed tricycle undercarriage.

Nose mounted pitot anyone?

And why I love painting late war Luftwaffe machines.

Just look at the texture!Big Smile [:D]

Hey I found a prototype piccie where she was a tail dragger...

Very interesting factoid, never heard that before but it certainly makes sense.  Thanks bondo!

Speaking of prototype piccies, how about this one?

Hi Mike, the 2 hatches directly infront of the windscreen, on the fuse split are fuel fillers for the onboard tanks. As for rescribing them (Which is pretty unavoidable) I use a scribing template. They are PE and very cheap, http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=ED48448 its the same with the one on the spine, directly behind. The template ive shown is for a 190 but the access hatches are the same.

If you dont have the inclination to get the scribing template, you could make your own by hole punching a piece of styrene for the rear one and similar, but 2 holes joined for the front hatches.

Bondo, i got to the bottom of the Torque scissor quandry. The early machines had a torque scissor and the larger formation light on the bottom of the rudder. The later machines didnt have a torque scissor and had the small 'Dot' of a formation light. Yey me.

Howdy Guy,

Thank you very much..!! I too love this kit as well as the a2-a I did a few years back. The only thing I see as an issue is the two circular panels in the front portion near the access doors and one just aft of the rear windscreen.

The are split between the fuselage halfs.. Not sure what tool to use to re scribe em or how for that matter..Banged Head [banghead]

Hey Frank,

Hopefully you are right and that I'll have paint on her in no time... I know, I too can not believe that I am getting bench time.. Ok somebody pinch me... lol I am having a blast with the GB and I am really enjoying everyones work...

Sean,

Funny thing you should ask about the IP along with the Czech update set.. Make a short story long.. A guy came in who we all kno at our LHS.. He was getting rid of some of the extra AM stuff he had since he was getting ready to move out of state with his company.. Lo and behold he had the set and best of all.. He only charged me half price $15-20.. I've had this thing in my stash for like 3 yrs and I am finally using it!!

Torqe Scissor, we need no steeekin torqe scissor..!!Tongue [:P] Thanks again for the info regarding this!! I left the torque scissor connection piece on the lower strut as if it was a field removal.. This was made with a thin strip from the evergreen rod I had laying around.

Mike(spike190) & Karl,

Thank you very much for the compliments.. Greatly appreciated!! And Mike, if you have any questions, ask away.. If I am not able to answer them, someone here will..

Thanks again gents fer looking

Flaps up,

Mike

Sir Bondlykins of the Grappa strikes again. Slipped in like an eel in in a greased bikini and twice as good looking. Love the colour. I think youve got that spot on. Theres something about a 262 in that colour...i dont know what it is, it doesnt shout 'Angry and dangerous' at you, but you wouldnt trust it as far as you could throw it. Like the quiet one at a fight. Hes who youd have your money on. Excellent work, Bill. Great photos as well.

Butz, Nice work on the later gun chutes. I love the Tamiya kit. Its pure genius. Youll have it wrapped up in no time. Great stuff.

Where am i?....Sand, rescribe, paint, sand rescribe, paint....etc

Hey Bondo,

Thank you very much for the compliment my friend.. I would have to agree.. this GB sure does rules.. We've got the best of the best in here!!

I really like how your Avia turned out.. I also like the fact how you improvised on the choice of colour.

Dave,

Thank you very much and I am glad that you really like my IP.. It was a bit of a bear but I over came it..

Although I like the newer Aires PE instead.. Seems easier to work with especially interms of cutting..

 Thanks again gents..!!

Howdy all,

Yes..!! I was able to get some modeling done.. Phew Well let's see, I started off with the office by scratching some throttles out off Evergreen stock rod thinned as well as the canopy release handle.. Used Tamiya tape and cut very thin pieces for the rudder pedal straps.. Would you be able to see em once fuselage is together?? Probably not but I'll know that there there right..!! Lol

From there I removed the surface detail on the kits IP and replaced it with Czech Master's PE IP which included a clear sheet with dials.. Painted the dial backing white which is a very nice toich to the IP itself..

Then went onto the gun platform.. Here is where I had to do some thinking..(scary I know) Since the Tamiya kit is a mid to late prodution a1-a, I could go one of two ways.. I wanted to take it  one step futher by making it a true late war a1-a of course..

With that being said.. I took the ammo cartridge from the inner most gun(CL) and instead of having a curved shape cartridge which the kit supplies you with, I made one from evergreen stock and represented it with a "L" shape for the late war a1-a.

Removed the torque scissor, added a pneumatic brake linn and repositioned the wheel strut. Painted the interior the as well as for the front LG and did a lot of dry brushing and used some washes to boot..

Well this is where I stand as of now(or maybe I should be on the beach with red)...

Flaps up,

Mike
