Thanks so much fellows, and she is happy to sit alongside her little sister the S199. Here is my blurb on that one, from the Weekend GB 2008:

"Painting is anyones guess. The SOP for this model is to use RLM 02 on the exterior, and RLM 66 on the cockpit, but Israeli sources tied to their IAF museum now identify a more greenish exterior, and RLM 02 for all interiors, so I went with that. RAF Buff and Hemp were reccomended, but I thought Buff was too brown and could not find Hemp. I tried (Tamiya) IJN Aircraft Grey which at first seemed a good match, but on the model was too blue. So I mixed IJN Grey and RAF Buff 75/25 and I'm really pleased with the results."

For the S92 I went straight RLM02, corrected for scale. There were 12; 10 single and 2 twoseaters. It seems as though there wasn't a production line so much as a cobble of available components. Already outdated as a fighter in 1946, these were used as trainers for the eventual introduction of Migs, etc.

There's no credible evidence that Israel ever had S92s, internet rumors to the contrary. In the War of Independence, the Israelis had to smuggle in all of their arms. The S199s were snuck in on Panamanian registered C-46s, and the B-17s were flown via the Azores, although one got caught. The Royal Egyptian Air Force had Spitfires, so the Israelis upgraded from Avias to P-51s and Spitfires.

The RBF tags are red paint on foil. I did the stencil by chopping the decals up with a razor blade. I also scratched the RDF loop, always do that- the plastic parts don't look right. What's my next 262? It'll have to be 1/72, and the Revell kit looks superior.

Cool build Bondo. I have never seen one built up in the Isreali colors. I hear alot of speculation of the colors that the Avia 199 were painted. Alot of sources say it was RLM 02 but I have heard other say it should be more towars the green side than the the grey of the RLM 02. I have not found much in the way of reference photos to help me decide when I build my Avia S-199.

Didn't even realize you had started Bondo!  I think the color mix is perfecto for the Avia.

Did you just run a brush through the decals to "stencilize" them?  Looks good.

Finished- the Avia S-92 "V-33". This is the Hasegawa "Post War" A1, in 1/72 scale.

I painted her in RLM02 mixed 50/50 with white. The only real mod was that I "stencilized" the decals to match the original and give her that proper Eastern Bloc look.

This was fun and I'm ready to do another. It looks like the Revell one has better detail.

Dave your skills with an AB are just stunning. I dont know of any other superlatives that do it justice. You need to send this to the mag, if its not a 'gimmie' then ill eat my Tash.

How do you go about getting that fantastic result? (Mixtures, pressures etc)

Jeremy, Sean, Dirk, Warhammer, Aaron, thanks guys!!!  You're making me feel all warm and fuzzzy.

Aaron, if you want to see what's next you'll have to wander over to the FAA GB.  Got an old kit that only Sean could love.  Should have a pic or two up later tonight or tomorrow.

Incredible work and unbelievable talent with the AB!  Just makes me feel all squishy inside!  What else have you got going on the bench? I know your pidling with some 1/72 scale Corvette and wonder what may be next on the aircraft agenda?

Going bonkers looking through my stash but in 1/72 there seems to be no limit on subject matter!

Sean, Brendan, coming along nicely fellas!!! Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Marco, glad to see you found your way over here.  I'm looking forward to seeing it finished up.

Well, I'm calling this one done.  Had an unexpected day off today so I managed to finish despite doing everything I could not to.  Tried putting the cap and brush from my Tamiya extra thin cement on the CA bottle Dead [xx(] then I melted off the tip of the rear wing while using the soldering iron to tighten up the aerial.  DOH!!!  Anyway, managed to take some pics and put it in the cupboard before any other damage was done and I'm pretty happy with it considering it was intended to be a fun quick (3 week) build.

Next up is the P 1099 B1 after a little break to work on another kit.  I also orderd some PE for the Academy kit!   Big Smile [:D]

A couple of tips-

It will always stay the cross section of what you started with, ie D shaped won't get round.

When you find a kit that stretches well, save it! They are hit or miss.

Hold the length of sprue about 1/2 inch or so above and 1/4 to the side and slowly rollit in your fingers. This will heat it evenly all around. You'll see the texture change a little, super shiney and will start to buldge, maybe a bit of sag, ...pull apart! Like everything, a bit of practice!

The hotter it gets, the smaller the diameter of your "wire" will be.

Here's a question in line with Jason's...

When I try to stretch sprue, the diameter ends up being rather inconsistent and also the length ends up being short. I see models that claim the antenna wire is stretched sprue but I can only seem to get half that length and like I said, all over the place in diameter. Any advice for that? Thumbs Up [tup]   Thanks!

Thanks for all the positive comments gentleman. All that scratchwork came at a price, about 10 hrs. I have never attempted to scratch build that much at one time. I did figure stuff out along the way, so next time should be faster.

I was thinking the same thing with all that wires and scratching. JAson is smoking through some major detailing!

Marco I thought you had done that all in one day at first look!  Gonna give Guy some competition!  Looks like a great recon example!

Brendan the mighty Warhammer!  Has begun with a vengence making Frank almost want to post in progress pics himself!  I had this dream he was working on a Corsair and Zero at the same time!  Gotta be warped to try somethingt like that!

Sean what kinda news is there on the wheels?  Were the kit one's that poor?  I am just a poor artist seking truth , light and energy!  Maybe some sexy halloween outfits for the wife as well.

I was thinking of going trick or treating as Guy this year.  Can't get the mask right though. ANy suggestions?

I bet Karl has some ideas!

Jason- I was just marvelling over your Hellcat over at the FAAGBHQ, and now this!  Incredible is the only thing I can say.  I am loving this one. Approve [^]

Marco- Sign - Welcome [#welcome], glad to have you here!  Your -262 is looking very good indeed, can hardly believe it's 1/72! Shock [:O]  You should be very happy with how it is coming along. Thumbs Up [tup]  Please, feel free to start another one here as we would all love to see it! Thumbs Up [tup]

Sean- Well, since the cat is out of the bag now, I should probably offer this deal to everyone here.  For a VERY limited time, the Franenstyrostand v5.7 is now available for sale, and to make the deal even better, individual components can be purchased separately.  Like the risers Sean got for the low price of $279.99.  These are so cheap, it's almost like you stole them!  I take cash, Paypal, m.o., and cashier's checks. Great work all around guys! There are some really nice builds going on here. I have started on my 1/72 Revell B-1a/U1. This is a nice little kit with plenty of detail.

The only detail I added to the pit was some wiring to the IP.

I also opened up the main gear bay to show off the bottom of the cockpit.

Lord Moustachio, you have progressed so quickly on this one, considering all the extra work youve thrown at it. Awesome. So looking forward to seeing paint.

Ive been looking at mine for a couple of hours. Finished off the engine cowlings and fitted the alerons. I might even get some primer on tomorrow for the 1st round of sand, repeat, sand, repeat, sand repeat...you get the gist,
