Guy - Definitely sucks that the resin is giving you a hard time. The good news is that you're teaching me along the way and I have to thank you for that! Thumbs Up [tup]

Nice fix there Guy. Were any of the resin bits you purchased not defective. Seems like you got a load of crap instead of some nice resin goodies that you expected. I am definetely puttiing them on my list of resin stuff not to buy. Makes you really miss Meteor products. How are you going to have tea if you have a rudder in the tea cup?

Now let's see, what are the advantages of using Resin ?  Toxic Dust, Parts that are broken, warped or dont fit at all... Am I missing something here ? Wink [;)]

Guy -  You know I am just giving you some aggravation.Mischief [:-,]  Nice job of fixing the wonky part.  Looks like your back on track and no doubt you will be springing an amazing paint scheme on us soon. Thumbs Up [tup]

Mrs. Luftie then came into the kitchen, found a nice mug of hot water and dropped in a bag. How considerate of Guy to set me up, she thought as she took her first sip....Yuck [yuck]

Hi again, just a small update, or as i like to call it a Frankdate Whistling [:-^] (Not seen much yet Daywaster..err...walker)

As i mentioned in the previous post, the rudder was fairly warped,

Heres my method of straightening it (By this you can conclude it worked LOL). 1stly i taped the rudder to a straight edge. In this case a paintbrush handle. I also had a wonky LE slat,

As the rudder was quite thick, i place a thin strip of styrene between the paintbrush handle and the rudder,

Next up i boiled the kettle and poured out a cupfull. I left it standing for about a minute and then dunked the paintbrush in it. I left it in the cup for about 5 or 6 seconds,

Ta daaaaaa,

Lovely jubbly and now the gratuitous 'Mock up shot',

Did you see id attached the nose. Guess what...Not a good fit, but i was pretty sure a cup of hot water wouldnt rectify the prob. Sandpaper it is LOL.

Aww geez, thats just about too much flesh showing there. Crushki, Dont encourage him...im rather partial to the moobs though Jezza.

Frank, With the state of my CMK stuff, i think you can save your postage. You could send me one of your Frankenstyrostand II's Whistling [:-^]

Bondo, cheers for the kindlies. Im a bit concerned about the rudder as its warped pretty bad.Im going to have to use the old hot water to see if its salvageable.

Dave- Forgot to comment on your 262, and IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!  I can see the difference with/without the overspray.  I like it , I like it a lot! Bow [bow]

Guy- Great save on those slats!  And just in time too, Big Boy.  Now I am not gonna use the CMK ones I have.  Wait a tick- maybe I'll box the kit and the resin up and send it to the UK and have Wingus and Dingus do their majic on it and send it back.  Whistling [:-^]

Guy - Nice save on those inserts!

Dave - She looks beautiful! I understand the whole concept of a mist coat, but do you mist the paint on thinned as normal or ultra thinned?

Dirk - Gonna be nice to see another cannon! I saw the Dragon kit online in 1/48 and thought about it for a second but didn't want to show up Guy so I left it alone. Wink [;)]

Dave the mottle on the 262 looks great. The mist coat really ties it all together. Fantastic work.

Guy see we knew since you have become even more manly with you new flavor saver you would be able to fix you slat problems with no dificulties. very well done.

Butz, sorry about your truck getting all beat up, hope it all works out and glad nobody was hurt.

Dave that mottle looks fantastic, I know it takes a lot of skill and practice but what airbrush do you use?

Guy, great workaround on the iffy flap problem and thanks for posting those walkaround links, they will prove very useful when I get going Big Smile [:D].

Cheers...

I would have sent you the shrunken bittys, Lord Moustachio, but im afraid i chopped them up. I was going to use thier links, but decided against it. As for the clamps. I bought them today from my Local Hobby craft. Theyre called 'Berna Modelclamps'

They are also cheap as chips. Ill have to post a pic of the old flavour saver, its coming along swimmingly, with you as my inspiration.

I really like the looks of those clamps - what brand are they and please post a pic of whole clamp .. Smile [:)]

Well thanks to all your misplaced faith in my abilities, ive attacked the 262 again. I decided to bin the long slat inserts and replaced them with a large pice of styrene,

after the glue had gone off i trimmed it to size,

while i was waiting for the glue to dry, i plugged a small gap at the inner wingroots,

when the glue had gone off i went about making the holes for the runners to the slat. These lined up with the divots on the lower wing,

then the arms,

at this point i was fairly happy with the results, so i went on and attached the nacells. Due, I think, to the lack of location holes and that id removed loads of sty from the wing, the nacelles needed a little pressure to close the top gap,

Its coming on,

Mike, so sorry to hear about the damage to your vehicle (been there myself, as I'm sure most of us have at one time or another - mine was 3K in damage and I wasn't even in the car! It was parked at work). The main thing is nobody was hurt.

Outstanding work everyone! I should be back to the bench by the weekend if the Yanks take care of business tonight - been a bit distracted by the ALCS, and there's no cable hookup yet in the workroom.

Mike (Butz)- Shock [:O]  Sorry to hear about your truck, but glad everyone is OK and the little guy was home.  Good luck getting it all squared away.

mph34- Sign - Welcome [#welcome] aboard, glad to have you with us!  I added your build to page 1. Thumbs Up [tup]

Dirk- That's a lotta PE bits for such a tiny plane!  With the time you are spending on it, sounds like it will surely be a sight to see.  Looking forward to more pics. Approve [^]

I started working on Delaney's [B-1a/U1] cockpits last night (No pictures yet). It took me almost 2 1/2 hours to cut, bend and assemble the PE for just one set of rudder pedals and the brace. And the messed up part is no one is going ever see it. I'm going to have to rethink my use and application of PE. Especially on 1/72 birds. Narrow down its application to stuff like the instrument panel, Pilot seat(s) and exterior parts.

I'll post the pics once I have something worth showing.

Wow Dave, I am well drooling over your paint scheme... What method did you use to get the mottle look?

I am really looking forward to seeing her complete!!

Yea it tis sad that I am going to loose my brown jug.. We've been to hell n back.. Never let me down that's for sure..

It was her fault yes, but her excuse was that the sun blinded her and the Police officer actually took her word.. So it fell under no fault insurance yet her insurance will be given me $$.. And the hunt begins... lol

Flaps up,

Mike

Dirk,  I'm really looking forward to your build up on that one.  It's a short run kit so some flash is to be expected.

Progress update.  I've done a mist coat of RLM 76 over the mottle to tone it down and blend it in and I've got the decals on.  The decals are old (as is the kit) and a little yellow but I'm hoping the flat coat will make it less noticeable.

I really like the look of the paint job. If either of mine come out HALF as good I'll be very very happy.

If it was her fault, go after her and threaten to sue her. Call her insurance company and tell them so. I did recently and her co., Geico took my truck, fixed it and no cost to me. Worse comes to worse, get your insurance company to send you a check for the blue book minus the salvage value which is probably around $ 500 at a junk yard, so you might get $ 4K or so. Then you get to keep the truck if it's registered as salvage, go find a cheaper fix.

I'd like to join this fun group - with a Tamiya 1/48 ME-262A-2a that has been converted back to A-1 config.  It is about 70% done, so this will be a great modivator to get it completed.

The rule of thumb in the insurance industry is they will total any car if the initail estimate excedes 70% of the trucks blue book value. So even at $4500.00 dollar value you are still way over with a max repair set at $3100.00 dollars. I know its tough to let a truck go thats been good to you but they almost never budge on these numbers unless the truck was not replaceable. If you get $4500 bucks you should be able to find another used one in nice shape though.

I hear ya my friend.. The adjuster did not give me an exact number but I'd be getting around 3500-4000..

However with the research I have done between Kelly Blue Book, the ada and a few other sources.. My year, style and milage, 4500-5000.. MMmm one tends to wonder..!!
