Alright - I chunked the 2x4 supports.  Some days my brain only half works... I made two upper brackets that will mostly be hidden and will support the weight of the jumo.  Which I will be able to use the finer P/E strips.  I even added a few lightning holes to make it look like it belongs.

Ok guy's I am looking for your input here. All the pics of the jumo I have show the mounting brackets off.  The sawhorses dont appeal to me either.  I fashioned these up using the reference pics for a general idea. Should I keep it or loose it ?

Edit - Removed Goat Ugly pics as I could not stand looking at them let alone making you all miserable Dead [xx(]

Photobucket

I made the channels from some scrap P/E frets, I wanted to use P/E for the straps also but they were way to fragile and unstable.

If you want it in 1.48 then your limited to the Dragon/ Trimaster kit. You can still find em at shows 2nd hand. Good luck, ive been looking for a while. Or go the route im on, and buy the conversion from Schatton Modelbau http://www.modellbau-schatton.privat.t-online.de/

Heres where i am at the moment,

I added a few more of the teeny resin rods and the wiring to the fuse sides, to the pit. The last of the rods to go in will go when the lower wing goes on. Also it needs a bit more detailing and washes to get it looking right.

Thanks, guys! Construction will be moving along soon, the engines will go together very nicely by the looks of it, and I'll try to get the extra detail spot spraying done tomorrow, then the fuselage can be assembled. Add the tails and the main structure will be done.

Karl -- I wouldn't know where to begin to wire up the control boxes! I'll source an Aires set for the next one I do, and lay the same painting techniques over the resin.

This strikes me as being a surprisingly quick build, there'll be plenty of time to revisit the 262 before the end of this GB.

Sean -- what part of the aircraft is that? There's ... too much detail, I can't recognise it! Whistling [:-^]

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Mike- Looking very good indeed!  I like the effect of the red brown in the wheelwells, great idea. Thumbs Up [tup]  You're off to a flying start! Big Smile [:D]

Sean- How cool is that?  Love the wiring, certainly livens the engine up.  Well done!

Dave- Great progress, can't wait to watch the divine scale master do his thing with an airbrush to this little gem. Bow [bow]

Aaron- Glad to hear you're feeling a little better.  Hopefully, you're asleep right now! Zzz [zzz]

Sean, stunning work on that engine.

By the time you've finished it will look like you could start it up!

Mike, looking good on the Tamiya build there.

Are you going to wire the control boxes on the side walls?

Dave, looks like you're on the home stretch.

Looking forward to seeing the mottling.

Aaron, glad to hear the pain relief is at least working.

Here's to hoping you get some sleep soon.

A ha! My ears are a burning!  I finished my 262 all up but my camera is charging from some pics I took with the folks today. Sean that is looking great! The cannons the Engine detailing even the wheel well is getting the works!

Guy that kit you got sent to you from the trusting fellow really is an oddity with that super canon! The Aires detail set looks amazing!

Great progress by all and even Dave has pics of that night fighter!

 Simply amazing!

Thanks for all the well wishes. The new meds are working so far and I feel better although the drowsy factor to let me sleep doesn't seem to be kicking in just yet. 3 AM and all is well! Not quite! But I got out the house for the first time in ages it seems.

My parents musta brought some cool air down from Ohio because it was a beautiful day at 73 degrees. The Gulf of Mexico looked nice and blue today.

After one year there are still memorials for the dead from Hurricane Ike although the Island has made a remarkable recovery there are still many reminders of that destructive killer storm.

Most of the large hard wood trees are dead and leafless from the salt water but the palm trees have grown green again. Can you see the Mocking bird?

At Moody Gardens the dates look ripe on the trees.

The boat tours are moving along!

and you get passed by cool motorcycles this one had spinning gatling gun exhaust and looked cool I thought. Frank and Guy would fit right on it I bet!

Well I had better lie down and get some sleep if I can!  I'll post pics of the 262 as soon as I get a chance!

Sean, that looks absolutely amazing!  Shock [:O]Shock [:O]Shock [:O]

Got some paint on mine tonight.  I'm going to have to touchup some of the RLM 76 and the panel shading doesn't show up in these pictures very well but I'm happy with it.  I'm going to try to get the mottle on tomorrow.  Night all.  Zzz [zzz]

T bolt - I am with Dave on the weathering Approve [^] Great color combo. I am liking the moldings of that kit also.

Well I am calling it a night, I figured I would post one more pic in case Aaron sneaks in around 3:am and he wonders what he is getting blamed for.

Photobucket

In case anyone is wondering, this has been done with sheet styrene sandwiched together, aluminum tubing, solder, and .010" brass wire.

Hi all,

Update as promised -- I've got the interior painting done and weathered. It's OOB and the detail level is basic compared to the AMs and scratches going on here, but still not too bad for the scale. The metallic is Humbrol 11 Silver mixed 10:1 with 56 Flat Aluminum. The mix slightly dulls the finish and serves to harden it so it can withstand some handling, even masking. The aluminum is then weathered toward the lower parts of the wheel bay with Tamiya XF-64 Redbrown, brushed on highly diluted with thinner and streaked with a broad brush, the reverse-chemistry of oil wash weathering. I might have been a b it heavy-handed with it, though it looks more subtle for real than in photos.

Photobucket" border="0" />

The cockpit sills are in XF-63 with a little gloss added, standing in for RLM-66, and the mating surfaces have all been unmasked. They were protected with razor-cut strips of masking tape.

Next, more subassemblies. The intakes and shock cones were sprayed with the same aluminum mix, while the exhaust cans, flow-cones and ducts were sprayed with a different mix to simulate heat-stained metal. I used the remaining drop of the first mix as the base, then added Humbrol 53 Gunmetal and 153 Interior Red at a ratio of 5:1. The tonal difference doesn't show up very well in photos but it's quite marked in the flesh.

The wing is assembled, the seams are done on the nacelles and the gunbay is assembled and mated to the cast metal nose gear bay/weight. I left out the guns as I won't be opening the bay, but the bulkheads are structural parts and need to be there.

Photobucket" border="0" />

I'm thinking my next A-1a may get the royal treatment, with the Aires set, open gunbay, open canopy and Am decals, I'm sure enjoying this build. I clicked the fuselage halves together and sandwiched them into the wing and -- talk about precision engineering! -- the wings flexed closed about them and held the assembly together, with no visible wing root joint lines!

The way the nose gear assembles, one is obliged to mount the nose strut before closing the fuselage, which feels odd as I usually leave gear off until all main handling is over. That means I need to shoot some more aluminum in the bay and some RLM-02 on the struts, before I can assemble the fuselage, but the engines I can now proceed with without delay.

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Dirk, can't wait to see what you do with that kit.  I did the Revell 1/72 A-1a kit OOB a couple of years ago and found it to be a really nice build.  That PE set looks sweet. Cool [8D]

Sean, 4"x4" huh?  Better get one of Franks 1/144 scale kits then!  Laugh [(-D]

Well, wife just left for the rest of the evening and the kids are on the Xbox so I'm heading for the airbrush.  Wish me luck.

I was able to find and download the Squadron book for the Me 262 but it had little to nothing on the night fighter and no color photos of paint schemes. Dose anyone here have any helpful links?

Dirk,

There were only a few 262B night fighters that were ever photographed, all painted similarly.  Here are four of the schemes on this sheet:

Ok guys, I stopped by my LHS and picked up my 262. Here she is...

The Kit

The Parts. There appears to be some nice detail and the panel lines are recessed. For a 1/72 fighter there are a lot of parts. I didn't take a picture of the decal sheet (Flash washes it out) but there is a ton of very small decals that comes with this kit.

The Photo Etch and lots of it

Thanks for looking
