Aaron,

Man, I am so sorry to hear that you are still not getting any relief from that back pain!  That has got to be one of the worst feelings, where you cannot even rest without causing more pain.  Really hope you are able to get some relief soon.  Perhaps we will have to recruit an entire team of nurses to come down to TX to take care of you.

Hey Aaron I'm sorry to hear about your back... I've suffered similar issues because I played rugby and it was debilitating at times... I remember a month where I had to roll entirely out of bed and pull myself up to stand. I hope you get well soon.

Guy your build is looking excellent... I personally like the first scheme myself, but the second one looks pretty interesting too.

Aaron, I'm sorry to hear that your back is not improving.  I went through it all about a year and a half ago when I injured my back and I think I have a pretty good idea of what you must be going through.  Hopefully the docs can figure it out and get you back on your feet.  Surgery is never attractive but sometimes it is necessary.  Just remember whose fault it is and get well!  Wink [;)]

Some tough questions, difficult to say if Mr. Taylor had a hard reference or was using some artistic license. IRT to your questions:

1. Most of the KG 51 birds that I've seen had a base of 82 with 83 mottling over the upper surfaces. This could have been carried on to the wings or the splinter pattern, impossible to say without a photo.

2.  Yes, the 9K and the H would be in small black lettering (if it was present).

3. No idea about the W.Nr. but 9K+FH was W.Nr.111825 so it should be pretty close to that.

 Hey fellows and friends! I am gonna post this here as I think everyon that is involved with my building models and friends here are present are cross connected in some way.

  I am probably going to be rather absent for a bit as my back situation has not improved. Been off work for more than a month now and all the joys that goes with that. Still no light at the end of the rainbow either. Doc today has chosen to up my medication to a significantly stronger level yet again due to my complete inability to rest due to the pain I experience when staying still for too long. It is actually pretty bad and am going for yet more test with a surgical consolt which I am really trying to avoid.

 Parents are coming to visit tomorrow through my Birthday on the 20th of this month. Looking forward to seeing them as all my kids are home as well currently. Probably that will come to an end all to soon as they grow and start there own adventures in life.

 Today also was one of mixed emotions for me.  My # 2 son Shane joined the Army today. He will graduate in June and leave for Basic Training in July. The newest  Airborne Infantryman to train in Fort Benning during the nice cool weather they are famous for in late Summer.  25 years ago almost to the day is when I myself joined and cannot help but feel the mixed emotions of pride and anquish at the thought of what I have experienced and what he has to look forward to in the future. Proud ? Oh yes but sometimes I think the 21 years I spent in Combat Arms was enough to count for my familys contribution. That is probably just the father in me worrying cuz what trouble could possibly befall an Airborne Grunt?  Long training though goes all the way into December.

Well I'll be around to read e-mails  at the very least and keep my eyes an all of you! Mischief [:-,]

And so it begins. I broke sprue tonight and started to assemble the cockpit that I painted on Monday. It has been so long I forgot how nice it is to build a Tamiya kit. The cockpit is mostly assembled. As a precaution I did as i always do and after attaching the bulkheads I layed the cockpit assemble into the fuselage halves and taped it up to make sure everything lines up. I noticed a small gap that would not close up on the bottom of the fuselage right under the front bulkhead. I gave the bulkhead a little push foward and then it lined up perfectly. Man I am glad I gave it a test fit before it dried.

Guy: Very nice work on the pit! This is going to be one sweet build. I thought I had read that it crashed in France. There is actually a little excerpt about it in the Osprey book about it now that I look. 

As for the colour schemes, I like the second one as well. Just something about the NMF nose and wavey paint. If you look close though, they are the same bird. The Wk-Nm is just visible in the second pic. And upon closer inspection, the Osprey book also has a pic of the second bird with what looks like Willi Herget inspecting a 50mm round from the gun, and the Wk-Nm from the caption match the one given with the color profile of the top bird; which is also a color profile in the Osprey book.

I forgot I also had a double-combo kit of 2 Eduard 1/144 ME-262B, in German colours.  4 schemes, 2 of which are radar equiped, with PE for the radar (in 1/144 scale remember!).  Anyway, here's a picture of the kit, with the PE.  If the sprue for the canopy seems weird, it's because it contains 2 canopies, being a double kit, of course!

Now which schemes, or indeed, schemes?  I'll keep the Czech version for another day, or, maybe do two Czech versions (single and double seats).  Decisions, decisions!

Edited to add:  Oh, I'm a dolt, I forgot, I have only enough Czech decals for one aircraft!  Still, a two seater IDF version could be fun (if I can find the decals), or maybe a fictional Jap version, or maybe, or maybe...

Sean that is some nice scratch building there. The gear bay and strut camo out great. Nice work.

Guy that pic of that 262 is amazing. Someone has some serious talent there! I like the second pic too with the unpainted nose. A good chance to show off you NMF skills. I really need to get over to the bench. I have all of the major sub assembies painted and ready for construction.

Warhammer, yes Happy hunter did crash in France. On its way to Cherbourg to be ferried back to the States. There was a german test pilot flying it at the time and there were rumours (Apparantly unfounded) that he crashed the plane deliberately. Bit rough, if so, as he broke his leg in the bail out.

Sean: Very nice work on the pit. For an old Monogram kit, it has some very nice detail. And your drybrushing makes it look even better. The scratch gear bay looks great as well! Love the added detail.

Guy: For some reason, the pics of the U4s aren't working on my end. Just getting the red X. Could just be my computer but I wouldn't mind seeing them. And didn't "Happy Hunter II" crash in France?

Ok, easy enough Smile [:)] I was about half a step behind on that idea. I was looking at a similar pic in my Squadron Walkaround and was thinking the same. I also went a little rib crazy so quite a few got removed as well.

Butz -   Thanks Smile [:)] Yeah good old drybrushing - it had been so long of using that method I had almost forgotten how... Had to break out the # 7 Optivisor for that work...Blindfold [X-)]

Aaron -  You know how I am about these old kits , I will always grab one to build then the new "super kits " 

Back to the Monogram 262 ~ As I was dry fitting parts I was looking at the front landing gear housing.... Not to impressive and it looked like more work to dress it up then to build a new one out of scratch.

I made a pattern for the box out of .030" sheet and cut up a bunch of styrene stripsfrom .020" sheet styrene .

I have left the back off until I add some wire to replicate the hydraulic lines .

Hi chaps, great thread, and yes, the banter here is certainly fun.  Might I ask if it's too late for one to join in?  If so, I'd like to come onboard with the Eduard S-92 (or CS-92, there is also that option).  Colour scheme is either Czech, or (if it's acceptable, and I can find some decals) the supposed Israeli version.

Interesting point about the Japanese 262 is that the Japs actually developed two completely separate '262' and completely seperate engines, neither of which had any direct relationship with the ME262 as all they had were pictures, no plans, as these were onboard the sub that was sunk.  Can't remember the names of the two Jap jets.  One was the Kikka, but the other is beyond me...
