Well I can't resist this.  Been looking for an excuse to build the Tamiya Me 262 A2-a (1/48) with the Kettenkrauftruad (I'm sure I butchered that spelling).  My wife gave that kit to me for my birthday many years ago, so she'll be thrilled that I'm finally building it (that is, if she even remembers giving it to me).

Frank, please add me to the list, although I probably won't get started until the Christmas holidays.

Guy, that's some lovely 262's you have there.  You like the night fighters I see.  Looking forward to seeing some more of your handiwork.

Sean, you continue to amaze me with your extensive stash.  I had no idea that Revell ever made a 1/32 version of the 262.   Cool! Cool [8D]

I lifted that picture from another forum, that got itself a little knotted up over a suggestion, that became a rumor, that became a "fact" concerning the IAF purchasing S-92s along with S-199s. When the dust settled, someone had themselves a nice "what if".

Right!  I found a CMK resin conversion set for the Tamiya kit with parts and decals to build a B-1a night fighter, and also a CS-92.  Just ordered myself one. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Frank, tryin to get a few of the other GB's finished up. Count me in for a 262, haven't picked the kit out yet, but I'm favoring the Tamiya kit. Built the FW190A8 in JG5 markings for the Battle of Norway GB. I like their offerings, they build up into a nice display, even for someone just getting into the all metal planes of WW2 such as myself. Start date is just around the corner too. Wohoo!

I have not built any of the 1/32 kits, but have heard many good things about the Trumpeter kits.  Many have said it is their best kit to date. Thumbs Up [tup]

In 1/72 it's a close call between Revell & Academy.

In 1/48 it has to be the Tamiya kit for my money.

Fred- I added you to page 1 as a possible entry. Thumbs Up [tup]

As for the best 262, Tamiya's 1/48 kit is very good.  Only gripe about it is the lack of poseable wing flaps and L/E slats, which were usually animated on parked A/C.  There are a few resin sets available out there to add these. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Frank,

I was going to do a 109 to accompany my 190, but I guess a 262 is just as good.  For now, consider me tentative.  I'll need to see where I am in my Sherman build come the end of October.  Thankfully, I'm on vacation that week, so anything left on the Sherman could be finished up by then.

Who makes the best 262, anyway?

Oooo... now THAT would be cool!

Bondo, Hasegawa had a post war 1/72 scale release with the Czech markings which I believe is still easy to find.  Check here

Mike, I remember building a few of these as a teenager, and enjoyed every one.

Hi Karl,

As a matter of fact the Matchbox 262 was rather a good kit, I built one 27 years ago and fielded it as a paired entry with their huge Spitfire 24 in the 1982 Matchbox Model Master contest here in Aus -- won a lil trophy! I seem to remember it assembled quite well and looked the part when complete. I'm not saying it would hold up against Academy or Hasegawa, but for a few bucks it would be an interesting experience in airbrushing.

Cheers,

TB379
