Just logging on and trying to get my head around this new layout that i do not like. I got a Hasegawa Bf109G-14 but i am not sure who from, i will try and post a photo soon. This should be interesting as i have never attempted german camo like this before. And having just opened the box there is some extra Eduard Etch brass which i look forward to using and my sender has kindly added a CD of referance material which will be very usefull.

Avus,

Im glad you like the kit. I dont know alot about Helicopters but the box art looked very nice. Im looking forward to seing what you can do with it, i might be tempted over to the dark side by it.

Well, I finally got to open it and I want to say thank you to Francisco (Painklr) for an awesome B25J Mitchell Bomber.  I already pawed through the manual and looked at the parts and I'm really excited about this one.  Camera was not available to take any opening shots, but I will get some of the kit up soon.  Thank you again, and happy holidays everyone!!

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

Well, Oliver I guess this year we swapped gifts, as I am you Secret Santa.

I'm glad you like the kit I sent. Unfortunately the PE is not specific for this kit, but it's the only one available for the BF109G-14.
I'll be looking forward to see you progress on this one.

As for me I'm already building two SuperCobras so I won't start straight away, but I'll do my very best to finish it within 2010!

So, finally, a chance to get the pic posted.

My thanks to Bill, aka bondoman, for the Moskito.  I must have passed this model a dozen times on the shelf at the hobby shop, and never managed to pick it up.  Very cool that I'll get to build it now.

All I can say is Wow! (not sham wow)

I didn't sign up this year  and I was Painklr's secret santa last year. He sent me this massive boxfull of kits and I wasn't even his recipient. He gave kits for me to build and some I can give to others(who I am going to introduce this hobby to). Painklr is a really good guy, I guess I will be building in this build. I will for sure join next year.Big Smile

This is the third SS I've done and never have I really had a desire to even get started until well into the next year ... until now.  I have the remainder of this year off from work but have several activities that my family and I are going to do that will keep me away from my bench.  So I decided to dive head first into the gift I opened on Friday from SkullGundam (thanks again!).  It's the Tamiya A6M2 Zero in 1/48, which I believe is an older mold but one can never have too many Zeros (I already have a 1/48 and 1/32 A6M5 in my stash).

I've done all of the interior painting and put together all of the major components.  There will be some seam work before I get the airbrush out for the exterior paint job, which will be overall light gray with the black cowling.

Hopefully in between our trip to Shreveport, LA tomorrow and San Antonio, TX on Wednesday, I'll be able to get to the exterior painting.  But who's in a rush here?  Big Smile

Merry Christmas to all, and a special thanks to Aggieman for surprising me with Revell's 1/48 F-105D with a stocking full of aftermarket goodies from Legend and the PDF of Squadron's reference materials! It may be a sin to admit, but I have never built this kit before. It's been on the "Meaning to" list for some time, but it's easier applying for a home loan than asking my wife's permission to add a kit to the stash. So I get to build this iconic bird ASAP. I am scouring the internet now for some decal options and am hoping to find something special for this build (In other words Cutting Edge decals...). Lots of options for the F-105 and I'm looking for something eye-catching for this build! Thanks again Aggieman!

A couple of days late....been busy....first of all, I was blown away when I opened my gift. I've got to hand it to you Mike (swingr1121) you sure know how to pick'em!! Its funny cause when I unwrapped it i noticed i had it backwards....the back box to me...so more of a surprise when I turn it over and there staring back is a Butcher Bird in all its glory...Eduard profiPACK  1/48 Fw-190A-8...wow....you hit my weakness on the head...mottling and Luft camo!!! So many options...then I opened and saw color PE and masks!!! too much!!!

The truth Mike..I am speachless....I hope to do your gift proud when I get going on it...you are right, there are sooo many posibilities with this kit! I might go crazy!!

My camera is down for the count but will post some pics soon.

Again thanks to all for a great GB especially our big boss Lofweir..it has been and will keep being fun as we all see our gifts come to life

MerryChristmas to all and a very very Happy New Year to everyone

Carlos

PS...After seeing the FW the elves decided to sign their contract renewal afterall and stay on for another year!!Stick out tongue

Good deal Carlos, whoever leads in the build can tell of the problems or shortfalls for the other. Which scheme do you plan to build, as of now I am thinking of the blue 13

Painklr, my wife and I recently discussed that same History Flight (well, I think it's the same).  Not sure yet if she's going to get me a flight on that B-25 just yet.  You have obviously got a great wife!

Having returned from the Independence Bowl (not a good subject for a number of reasons), I spent much of the evening finishing my work for this group build.  This is by far the fastest I have ever completed any model since I rejoined this hobby back in the 90s.  Usually it takes me a couple of days just to gather all the paints and other supplies and to build enough enthusiasm to even begin work.

This is the older Tamiya Zero kit - I've seen it at Hobby Lobby but never picked it up for whatever reason.  It goes together well and despite its age is representative of the usual Tamiya quality.  I built this as a Pearl Harbor A6M2 from the Akagi (per the kit instructions and decal sheet).  Wheels are up and this will be hung from the ceiling along with my other "in-flight" Axis warbirds (a Betty plus a bunch of Luftwaffe aircraft).

It is painted in Model Master acrylic light gray, not technically the Imperial Japanese Navy color but actually German licht grau, with the cowling painted in semi-gloss black.  Light weathering with some Tamiya pastels (oil stains and soot) and a panel wash.  Decals settled down nicely with solvaset over a Future finish, which was then sealed with flat clear.

Nice build aggieman, I think you beat Hkshooters record. The zero looks great, are you going to hang it on the ceiling?

Yes, it's going to the ceiling to "fly" alongside some Luftwaffe aircraft I have there, a Bf109G, a Me110, and an He111.

The Zero looks awesome.  I'm glad you liked it.  I'm in the middle of mine, but my paint didn't go down nicely at all so I lost a little enthusiasm.  No matter how many times I try I never learn that I cant hand paint such large surfaces with Tamiya.  Embarrassed  I think it will look great hung up.

Even though I didnt participate this year I figured since I was the resident nuisance the last 2 years before I figured I would stop in and say

Merry Belated Christmas everyone, and a happy new year!

Looks like everyone had a great time, me, I am still eyeball deep in my electronics addiction and haven't any room to pull the ole models out where the 2 year old Mohawk warrior cant get so I get the occasional work in but not much. Everyone looks great, I am glad to see the GB is still going strong and a good mix of the old guard and new blood. At the speed of my current 3 builds look for something new out of the TLP camp sometime in 2011!

It is only the intellect that keeps me sane; perhaps this makes me overvalue intellect against feeling

Okay, started on my Buffalo last night, cockpit is done, fuse joined and wings joined.  Used PE and resin and as both sets of instructions appeared different this bird may not be 100% accurate.  I did use parts called for for the version I'm building.  The thing that is odd to me is that the wheel wells call for Sky in the wing portions but Yellow Zinc Chromate in the fuselage portion, just doesn't seem right to me.  Anyway, I have one pic for you.

Moving along, got a little more done.  Canopy is masked and the wings are joined.  Second pic is what I was talking about...wells on wings call for sky and in the fusalage it's 3 parts yellow to one green so that tells me zinc chromate, is this correct?  Just doesn't look right to me.
