I agree, that just doesn't look right. I would be inclined to do all the bays in zinc. Unless reference materials tell you otherwise, and/or you are that picky. 2 cents

I did find another build where the person used green zinc chromate in both and then another that used yellow ZC in both.  Guess I'll just toss a coin.  This will also be my first complete fuselage airbrush job, so keep your fingers crossed.

I believe the instructions may be correct because of the difficulty in painting the inner fuselage once built.  I did mine with the wing colors in the wing wells but chromate inside the fuselage for that reason.  The wing wells would be easier to overpaint the bottom color.  Who really knows.

Logical.  So since I'm already there I'll just leave it as is.  Thanks for the input.

Chris....

I just finished the Special Hobby Buffalo...wow what a difference compared to the Tamiya kit. I can see it came together very nicely....not like the labor I went thru.....anyway...I painted the whell bay green zinc chromate and the wells and inside of doors as well as inside of the engine compartment. The wheel struts I painted a light grey diffrent from the underside grey it seems right to me.

And so it begins....I'm trying to squeeze in as much bench time as I can, got the 'pit about half done since this was taken, hoping to get it finished on the weekend. Anybody know of any sites with some reference pics of an F-86D?Confused

Hello all. Well it didn't take me long to make more work for myself on the F-105. I opened up the panels for the legend Gun bay, and while the bay itself fits remarkably well (Barely any sanding, fitting, cussing, repeat) following the panel lines on the Kit itself leaves too big a hole. So I've added several thin strips of plastic to even things out a bit. I'll contour with Squadron putty and I should be good to go. I'll post some pics of the results. Next step is the Legend cockpit tub, which dry fitting shows to be a perfect fit!

No Virginia, I didn't drop out of this group build.  I left on Dec 14th and didn't return home till Jan 6th.  Since then I have been to Hati, the Dominican, and Moscow.  I am finaly getting around to uploading the photo of my gift.

This is kinda outside the box for me.  All those guide wires...lots of pretty colors....

Sorry that I have 'dropped off the face of the earth' lately.

I was all excited about getting home one night so I could get started on the Su-25.  So, what happens - I find some black ice, slip, and break my ankle.  Stairs are being avoided as much as possible - and where is the workbench - downstairs. Sad

Note to self - next house to have the hobby room on the main floor.

As soon as I can get myself downstairs for a good part of a day, I should be able to get started.

I'm looking forward to seeing how that comes out.  I want to do one in 1/48 but I'm holding out until I can find the 2 seater.  Hope you get to feeling better.  I hate black ice.  Chris

Satch-

I'm glad you finally got to come home and have your kit. I really hope you enjoy it. It looks very unique, and with the work I've seen you do on here, I think it will look great!

Some progress pics of the F-105D.  I've also started rescribing.  About 75% done with that.

WoooEeee. Been awfull busy lately, too darn busy to get to the bench even. I had the gear bays and cockpit painted, applied an oil wash, then got called in to work overtime again. While I was there I asked myself:"Did you apply a sealcoat over that paint before you applied the wash? Beacause I know that wash will be very dry before I get home to scrub off the excess." Wanna guess the answer? D'OH!!! So, after scrubbing off ALL the paint, I'm gonna try again. So yeah, I'm still here as well, just don't get to "The Cave" as often as I want to.

There is some great work going on here!  Sorry I have been MIA for so long.  Between this broken ankle {almost ready to get rid of this boot} and work - I have been un-motivated and mentally blized to do anything.

I should have at least kept an eye on the work that everyone else has been doing! Embarrassed

But thanks to 'sub revolution' {aka Tristan} for sending me the Squadron Su-25 book, I may have gotten the modivation to make it to the workbench.  That and do a better job of watching everyone else's progress.

Raptor - that F-18 looks smart.  Made me realize that I have never built an F-18.  Need to add that to the list.  Nice start on the A-10 office - the painting all by hand?

Thanks MPH, I actually airbrushed the cockpit and then used Prisma colored pencils for the switches, and a toothpick for  the seatbelts.

You should get a F-18

And before ya start, I know I need a new camera. Well, this is the 2nd time I painted the cockpit and quite frankly I gotta say it don't exactly match the picture I had in my head. But I gotta get moving so this is it. Just trying to figure out what to use, and how to secure it, for nose wieght. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of trying that Alclad paint for the finish. I've never tried the stuff before so any tips would be appreciated. Thanx guys.

Hey Bullet,

I think its the cockpit looks great, your building a F-86 right?

You should use Alclad II. Its great stuff, its the only paint I use for Metal finishes. Its the only Aluminum paint that I have found that doesn't fingerprint, and can have tape on it.

For nose weight, I just use epoxy and BBs.

Excited to see the finished jet.

Hey guys, im still here plugging away on my fw-a8. Been quiet around here lately so how is everyone doing on their builds. Here is some of my progress

I am ready to close up the fuselage soon and have to squeeze the pit, gun bay, tail wheel and engine into a very small space.
