Okay, here's the update I promised. Still have to get those tracks on sometime.....but I'm not in the mood to deal with them right now.

Anyways, I have the first two washes on the lower hull. A grime wash and a burnt umber wash....still gonna add another wash, but it's close to the look I was going for.(since it's in Afghanistan I was going for more of a grimy dusty look then one of dirt and mud.)

As for the tracks, half the battle is over(painting and weathering) now begins the tricky part of getting them in place and attaching the ends together. Test-fitting already showed this is gonna be problematic at best. The tracks were first primed, then painted in flat earth, after that went on a series of burnt umber washes, black washes, and a grime wash. Finally a series of drybrushing with two different shades of a black-steel mix.

I finally have the tracks all finished up, the last application of drybrushing is drying now. Plus I have the lower hull all weathered up.....thus that means I'll get a small update posted sometime tommorrow. Now I just have to figure out how I'm gonna attach those tracks.

A build for a veteran....gotta give you a serious kudos for that. By the way, no need to apologize for something like that.

Lookin' forward to seeing the scratch control panel. Over on my end I have the tracks almost done(one more drybrushing and they may very well go in place sometime this week.) Then I can move to upper hull work.

My apologies for being light on the post these past few weeks.  I'm wrapping up a very worthwhile build for a Veteran here in the area and have been dedicating most of my free time to it - I'll post all the WIP photos on another thread once this build is complete.  In the meantime, I've removed the flaps and leading edge slats on the Su-17 and will scratch build the control surfaces once I clear the previously mentioned project from my desk (yes, I'm too cheap to purchase a resin drop-in replacement).

Since my beloved Cowboys had it handed to them last week in Minneapolis, I've suddenly found more time for modeling. Ugh!!!

MPH sorry to here about your injury buddy, I hope you get back to the bench as soon as you can.

With my JS-II build done for the Winter Warriors GB, I can now slowly start work up again on my T-72 for this GB. Hope to get the tracks finished this weekend and attached(ugh...rubberband tracks), so that said I'll try to get a small update posted over the weekend sometime.

I hurt my hand at work a few years ago, and after my surgery the surgeon said no movement for a week,

I had to keep my hand on top of my head for 3 days - LOL

Other than my hand, I was fine. I was going absolutely stir-crazy by week 5!

Believe me - I am looking at how to pull that off.  It is not so much the sliding down the stairs, nor getting back up {crawl up on my butt}.   It is getting to the bench.   There is no place for me to put a 2nd chair so I can put my foot up. 

I am thinking I will get a 'moble tool kit' put together so I can work in my easy chair.   By the time I get to painting, I am hoping to be more mobile and can get to the airbrush.

So - I get a Su-25 for Christmas.  I get a few days off between Christmas and New Years.  What happens - coming out of the office that last night before my time off, I find some black ice, slip, and break my ankle.  Thus stairs are being avoided - and guess where the workbench is - downstairs.

Well, at least I am able to get serious about my research on a Su-25 used by the Soviets in their Afganistan War.  That and get some add-ons for the Revell kit.

Keep posting all of you.  I am look forward to seeing everyone's progress.

No worries, I'll still find time to build(even if it will be limited to weekends mostly) and hang out on the forums. My class schedule is never that bad or overwhelming, always alot of time to waste.

Props on the new avatar!!  Glad to hear the LHS came through - heck, I'm just happy to hear you have one close by.  While I'm sorry to hear your modeling time will take a hit, I am encouraged that you are putting your classes first.  Trust me, this decision will pay big dividends for you down the road.   War since Napoleon should be quite interesting!  

Keep us posted when you can, even if it's an update on an exam.

Yes, it's still me just a new avatar.(good change or bad?) Anyways, my LHS had the paint I need in stock, it was the last bottle so I considered my self lucky. That meant I was able to get the tracks completely painted in Tamiya Flat Earth and now I can start on the washes.....hopefully soon.

I have spring semester starting tomorrow, so my modeling time will take a serious hit(probably down by half.) But on the positive side I be taking a super interesting class, War since Napoleon (it's part of the military history category, so I'm lookin' forward to it.)

Many thanks for the kind words.  After seeing the quality of your work on this and other posts, I am honored.  

HSteve, you are in for a fun time with your KP.  While I cannot speak for the Su-25 kit (I have yet to see one up close) I'm finding the -22M4 kit to be a pleasant surprise.  I knew going in that it was not going to be a shake-and-bake exercise a-la Tamiya but certain features do stand out such as the shape and placement of panel lines - most all are there.  I've discovered through dry fitting that the fit of the larger structures is a mixed bag; the fuselage is going together well but the wing roots do not match well to their respective location on the fuselage.   However, nothing that cannot be overcome with a bit of patience.

All that being said, I'm thankful that KP has given these subjects the attention they have.  Perhaps we'll see a Mig-31 from them one day.....just sayin!

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Su-25 and seeing your build get under way .

All I can say is, b-e-a-utiful!...

I've yet to start either projects for this build. Like stikpusher, I'm still working on other subjects, trying to finish them before taking on new stuff...

I've got the KP SU-25 Frogfoot A, 1/48, that I'm itching to build, just not enough space on my desk to start a new model...I'm getting an Eduard p/e set to dress up both the cp and the exterior; maybe a few weeks from now, I'll start on it. I've got a 1/72 RoG -25, but I think I'll leave that in the stash. I'm kind of getting sucked into 1/48 scale, and the detail on the KP kit is great - how is the fit of yours?

That's the main thing I'm concerned about - getting the exterior nailed. I'm not a huge fan od cp detail, but am slowly figuring out how to build with minimal sanding, filling, etc.

Hey guys, sorry about the lack of updates. I've been sidetracked by my JS-II for the Winter Warriors GB and I've been busy writing an article for FSM(hope they buy it off me.) That said I've been very slowly getting things done here and there on my T-72. The tracks have been primed and I'm painting on the first coat of paint. Unfortunatley for me, my bottle of Tamiya Acrylic Flat Earth has run out and now I'm running to the LHS. (hope they have it in stock or I'm sorta screwed for awhile.)

I really liked the movie. It has it's own sense of humor and style to the story. The CGI Hind sequences are pretty impressive. My only real nitpick was some stinger test footage of US drone kills being spliced in. Otherwise it is a really good moive.

As for me no construction yet. I have multiple other projects still taking up my time, but I did watch Charlie Wisons War the other nite to put me in the proper frame of mind for this build... Great movie on this subject.

I've seen all of the stuff on the history channel about Charlies war. Is the movie any good? Might have to check it out. Learned a lot of niffty things on the history channels show on the subject.
