My Alfa is nearing completion. Detail painting done and most decals added. I still need to add the reactor hatch marking, and a coat or two more of Micro Sol to get some of the markings to snuggle down properly... Then its time for a wash and top flat coat and add the screw... Next weekend she should be done...Whistling

Wow...Indifferent That wiring must have given you a serious headache... Amazing what some tinkering and a dab of top notch painting can do to a model. Your work is a huge improvement!!Yes And the overall paintjob on your helo worked out very well too.

Now get some decals done buddy-oWink Gonna be such a great model...

I am back with WIP pictures again Stick out tongue Can ya believe it 2 nights in a row too. Anyway she is ready for decals.

After staring at the main and tail rotor I decided they looked all plain and ugly. But I went ahead an [painted them anyways

After some more staring and ( oh no thinking) and a bit of tinkering heres what they look like now.

A little wire and some detail painting, now I am happy with them. More tomorrow I hope Cowboy

As promised a few WIP pictures, I just may make it Kermit.

All masked and preshaded

All the gray is on and I just finished clear coating it with future so I can mask in the morning and get the rest of the paint on. The preshading worked out well for me this time, I am happy with it anyways.

More tomorrow evening, the rest of the paint and the main and tail rotors finished.

Same build time

Same build channel Stick out tongue

Yesterday was 49 degrees and today was mid 60s. Welcome to southern California winters I guess Stick out tongue

Kermit I am making progress slow but sure Big Smile She is sitting on the gear and ready for the crystal, a little touch of finish sanding then on to the paint shop.

The landing gear on this kit only has 2 locating pins, it was a very difficult assembly. I got lucky and they came out pretty well the chopper even sits level.

None of the addons on the nose had ANY locating pins at all ! Did the best I could with them. Also the raydome under the nose lacked pins, it is back a bit farther than I think it should be from pictures I looked at, but any farther forward and the gaps would have been horrendous.

A shot from the top, loads of filler was needed on this build. As you can see I still have a little bit of sanding to do.

Jmart,

Excellent base for an impressive build. That screw must have scr*wed your eyes as well...Propeller Well done sir!Yes

Stikpusher,

Anyone who likes subs likes a Kilo class. Just something about them.... And you certainly have done it lots of justice. Three hurrays and an attaboy for your modelYes

Randy,

I said it before but i will say it again: This is one COOL helo you are building and i am absolutely sure you will complete it very well. Can't wait for the progress pics sir and by all means take as long as you needWink

My apologies for not participating with another build. I was planning another sub or maybe even a patrol craft but life, love, work and a big stash made that impossible. This GB, even though a tad too specific for some has been nothing less than impressive in terms of models completed and the quality of them. It has been an honor and delight to be allowed to host it. Once the last model has been completed i will post a gallery thread for each and every one on FSM to enjoy your work.Bow Down

Jmart even though the pictures are a bit on the dark side I like your sub and love the idea behind your base.  Well done sir YesYes

Well Mr Kermit T. Froggie, Sir this is the last picture of 2010 of the Skyhawk. I more than likely wont get it finished for a week or 2. Anyway I have all the crystal ready to go in, but as you can see in the picture I had a bit more filling to do, should be the end of the major fill work with just a few bits and pieces that will need a bit once attached.

I like that disply stand Jmart! It certainly evokes the ocean floor! Well this afternoon I completed my Bronco 1/350 Killo Class SSK that I have shown on here earlier. So here she is.

Ditto on the "real life stuff" getting in the way of bench time... here is to a MUCH better 2011!  Here is my feeble completed entry:

Ok, this one was a pain….   Unlike the new cyberhobby and/or Airfix kits, the ARII offering of the Trafalgar class does NOT have any sail detail. I am talking about the two structural components shown by the arrows:

I spent some time gauging, chiseling, fixing, putty/sanding, trying to get some semblance of the structure. I have no WIP pics of any of that, was not a fun part of the build….

Anyways, all of the sensors/masts were chopped, as they were just random bits of plastic. I fixed the top of the sail which had some empty spaces. Next, the propeller! Inaccurate, as you get a “standard” five flat blade ship prop that is also way too thick. Tried a few things, settled for foil from a wine bottle (some good Spanish Rioja).

Looks just a tad better than the plastic blob, but was a learning experience. With practice and patience, I can make better props with the foil.

Tried something different for a base: Plastic candy boxes, sand and some rocks:

Made a cheesy underwater scene (WIP of joining the two open boxes, that was a pain!):

Then mounted the sub on clear ‘stubs” on the base. Sub was painted flat black, I need to take new pics, the sub looks waaaay too dark!

I was going to add some other stuff, but time ran out, so this is it! I may attempt a better final pic to upload later, looks a tad dark at my end.  I also had another Trafalgar, waterlined, will finish that one down the road …

Thanks for being a great host and my apologies for not contributing more as the usual combo of work, life and health keeps getting in my way!

Cheers

Well with the holidays and birthdays, one of them my own, and helping my nephew build his first tank and all the other obligations of this time of the year, I haven't gotten much bench time in. Heres where I am at now.

I have most of the filling and sanding done and have been fitting the crystal in. None of it fits so its taken a lot of slow sanding shaping and fitting. I am hoping to get it glues in tomorrow then start on the stuff that hangs off the sides of this beast. They will need some filling and sanding too as upon dry fitting some of them there are some HUGE gaps where they meet the fuselage. So I think I will miss the end date by a week or so unless I can find more time in the next few days and a bit of magic in these fingers wouldn't hurt either.

I have been making progress on the Seahawk and will have some pictures up in a day or two. I can say I am a bit disappointed in this kit, it looked great in the box and the large parts I dry fitted looked good. However for the smaller parts I have found a lack of locating pins and some parts have to be measured out and placed, almost like they were an after thought,  and the normal Revell fits. So there has been plenty of filling and sanding going on, I also see a serious problem with the windshield fit. IMHO the kit was not worth the 30 bucks I paid for it. But with some work it will look good on the shelf.

Thank you Richard, I am still going to try for the 1st. 3 weeks for a build for me is sumpthin I tell ya Big Smile With that said here are a few WIP pictures.

I added a bit of stuff, a part from the spares box and some wire, to busy up the space infront of the IP as it can be seen once the model is assembled.

I dont really like the way the crew cabin went into the fuse, there aren't  any positive locating pins, so I used the old fashion slow setting glue to  install the floor. I glued the floor in, on one side only,  taped the sides together then moved the floor around to where it needed to be, when that was set I took the sides apart and glued the rear bulkhead in and the roof.

After deciding the wall next to the sliding door was too bare, I peeked thru the window on the left side Stick out tongue I made this little detail. I used evergreen tubing some wire and a bit of candle foil for the handle.

I still have to create a storage unit and place to mount the fire extinguisher.

German grey is a very very close match Randy, just think of anthracite from revell as "near black grey" and you're in the ballparkWink

Riiiiight, sonar buoys, that's what i said all that timePropellerWhistling Looks great buddy!

And like our australian modelling friends can so eloquently say: "no worries mate!" It does not matter how long you need. The GB won't be concluded before everybody (who is still working and requests so) has finished his or her model.

Hey my little green buddy helped me out with that color Richard Bow Down Its Tamiya German gray Big Smile although I still have NO idea what anthracite gray looks like. That sidewall thingy if I read correctly launched the sonar buoys. There is still a bunch of stuff to go in there but it was easier to install the belts with them out of the way.

Hey if I can get this done by Jan 1 it will be a record for me.

Randy, i don't care how long you need for this build; the GB will keep running until you are finishedWink Your scratching looks very good altough i have no clue what function that sidewall has. Must have taken you a bit of work. Well done!

I can also see that you found a very close match for that anthracite grey you asked me about. Spot on me matey!! ArrrrPirate

Bout time for a few WIP pictures dontcha think ?

First the box art

Next up is a couple shots of the seat belts made from masking tape

I have added a few bits of wire where there was no detail that should have been there.

Tomorrow I hope to get this finished up, with washes and a few more scratched bits and pieces. I gotta hurry on this one Stick out tongue

Well the Seahawk is back on the bench and in full swing. This is my first Revell Germany kit and its a nice one, fits seem really good, lotsa detail, but room for some scratch building also. I just hope I can pull off a half King Kermit and get it finished by Jan. 1 Stick out tongue I dont have anything worth showing pictures of, looks like I will have by Sunday though. What I really wanted to say is the decals in this kit have got to be the best ones I have EVER worked with, they all went on beautifully and one even went down on a flat paint surface, no problems and no silvering at all. It seems the decal sheet was made in Italy but I couldn't find the name of the company.

Hey guys Big Smile I made a start on my build the Revell SH-60B, got some paint on a few of the interior parts, but the more I got into it the more it was asking for a bit more detail. Not that the kit is lacking, but I think a bit of plasticard and some wire bending would add to it a bunch soooo. I have a 190 on the bench about ready for paint, if the weather will warm up just a bit. Anyway I want to finish the 190 then give my full attention to the chopper.

Oh and a huge thank you to our illustrious leader for his help with some of the paint colors. Toast

Stikpusher those subs are SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YesYes A very very nice collection.

Guys, and our fearless leader, I am finally getting my ducks in a row for my SH-60B build. I have to admit I am not used to the Revell Germany color call outs, in fact this is my first kit from them. The Revell paints arent available here at the LHS or the one over the hill, so I have been trying to find equivalent colors of Tamiya or MM paints, not too easy a thing to do it seems, but I am getting close. Anyway I have a FW190 build to complete its at 30% now and being a Tamiya kit will go together fast for me, well the last Tamiya kit went together very fast anyways. So by the end of the month my first helicopter build should be under way. I have already done some parts clean up, and a bunch of drooling. Big Smile

Today I finished airbrushing the upper colors on USS Dallas and HMS Torbay- Polly Scale Scale Black. I was not too keen on how that stuff airbrushes. But it went better than the lower colors did a few weeks ago.

And here is my 1/350 Battle of the Atlantic 1988 shaping up...
