On the Bug-Eye the Vector Nozzles, are represented w/decales.  Now given the age of the kit, the decals are not in the best of shape, so I have added the nozzels w/turned SS parts.

Mad-Modeler

Kugai:

There are also many figure kits available.

I am talking about the following mecha kit, rather new and only available via the makers website and this one:

http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT00186

Will be in my grubby paws within 24hrs.  Toast

I think I saw one of these built up at Wonderfest this year. It was tiny, but very nicely detailed. Good score.

Excellent build Harshman. I for one am sad to see you go, and wish you would visit us more often.

You know they have some brand new 1/48 scale kits of some of these, right??? I bet one of those would be great fun to build. Angel

Hi Guys,

I found this forum whilst looking for some Macross Valkyrie painting guides as I'm finally getting started on some kits that I've acquired over the years, and thought, well, now I'll have to join up! :D

If you're still accepting entries, the pile of boxes I'm going to use this as motivation to finish consists of:

  • Bandai 1:72, VF-1S Battroid Valkyrie, 15th Anniversary Model
  • Bandai 1:100, Missile Phalanx Destroid
  • Bandai 1:100, Attack Tomahawk Destroid
  • Bandai 1:100, Tactical Pod Glaug
  • Hasegawa 1:72, VE-1 Elintseeker

I'm also looking at acquiring one of the Wave 1:72 Tomahawks, however I might have to do that up with Mechwarrior markings.. so don't add that to the list.

I'm coming at this from a background of wargame modelling and miniature painting, so I'm good with fine detail and weathering, but if there's any good links/examples on how people do the awesome shading of the Valkyrie panel recesses let me know! (I have very minimal airbrush experience, but keen to learn) :D

Cheers guys!

Hi Stamps,

Welcome to the FSM forums and to the Macross Group Build. Since we haven't officially started yet and considering that this GB is going to run for 12 months, you'll have plenty of time to clear the list.

Just something to note with the 1/72 VF-1S Battroid. In the original Imai issue  of this kit, the "UN Spacy" legend on the decal for the right leg is incorrectly printed inverted and would appear upside-down if you look at it with the legs horizontal (ie. if it were in  fighter mode) I haven't seen the Bandai reissues so I' don't know if they ever corrected this.

Again, welcome aboard, I hope you have fun with us. Smile

CosmicJ.

Thx, I had a look-through the kit, yeah smallish at some 4+inches. Not many parts and even most of the areas for painting are marked on the kit so masking is a cinch.

IMO, could be done a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Yamato only made 1000 kits(some were full-clear IIRC) and sold them via an event in Japan, leftovers are available via their website and HLJ(IIRC the got 40 copies).

Will have pics tomorrow of the Fan-Racer and and the 1/100 Missile Phalanx.

Picked up a few other kits too. Kotobukiya Blade Liger Mirage, SF3D Fliege, 1/24 Type 100 Hiace (this is for a Conversion project), some egg-planes and SD Gundams.

WOW, you had fun @ the HS.  I for one really like the fan racer.  I believe you can order from Starship Modeler for anyone else looking for one of these little jewels.  I would like to have the Macross 1/72 Launcher (resin), but a bit steep for something to use as a base.  Look forward to ,seeing you post those photos MM.

GM:

By "launcher" are you referring to the almost Russian-style boosters or a launch arm from DYRL?  I've seen resin kits for the former ( and am hoping to get one to add a little variety to the eventual VF-1 lineup ) and have been thinking about attempting a scratchbuild of the latter.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the welcome, you guys all seem like a great bunch of guys, it'll be my pleasure to take part.

I checked my kit, and yes, they have printed the text on the leg decal upside down as well. I wasn't planning on using the whole decal anyway, as I was going to paint and shade the black stripes, but I was going to use the text (my hand's not that steady!) so thanks for the heads up!

Cheers,

Stamps, Cabecar,

Welcome to the forum and to the GB.

Man, I didn't check the forum for few days and this thread really grew. Harshman already finished a great Valkyrie.

It's good to see some progress and new members joining.

Cool build TD4438.   Looking @ your handy work w/brush and am I correct, you achieved the weathering by dry brushing?  Thanks for sharing.

Next step is cockpit painting. Fit of parts is good so no or very little putty needed. Will look for some instrument decals to go into the cockpit(none supplied).

Canopy hinge has been cut back so it can be removed and added freely.  Will leave the counter-rotating props free to spin.

You are correct.I couldn't decide how I wanted it to look.I settled on a GamesWorkShop style finish.I used to paint tons of Citadel Miniatures.

TD4438 - The little guy is coming along nicely. the base looks great too.

Mad-Modeler - The fan racer is awesome. Looking forward to seeing more.

Cabecar - Even if it isn't an entrant in this GB, pics of your VF-1J will be cool.

Wait till you guys see the base now!

It came out better than I expected.

Some times new techniques don't work well for me..

Not this time,thankfully.

Thx, all for the feedback, but the praise should go to the kit and not me.

Pulled the shroud off and testfitted the prop-blades.

Noticed a few ejector pin marks on the blades and also when I glued the fins on the shroud noticed a few had depressions. Spot of Putty and a nail-polishing stick will take care of those.

Ok, next big update will be in two weeks as I am on the road again. Off to Singapore with side-trips to Hong-Kong and Australia.  Will take a few kits with me but won't be able to do much more than gluing and puttying.

Should have some smaller updates as 4 of the kits that will travel are GB builds.

Don't really mind as it also allows me to sketch out bases for the kits.

I never painted Citadel Miniatures, but back in my younger days, I painted D&D figures, but there is no way I could do that now.  Just way too small for me.  Thats why I build the bigger kits now.
