Brett- Nice work on the vehicles.

While I would like to take credit for them, they are actuallly Aarons work.

BTW that Leopard looks great. I know what you mean by 'time to slow back down'. it is important to keep it as a fun hobby,  or you will suffer from burnout.

Aaron:  Love the Airfield set.  I have never seen that fire truck built up before and I like it! 

Richard:  You out did yourself once again.  The Sabre looks awesome and will be a worthy adversary for your Mig.

Jeff:  You and Nick just keep crankin' them out.  The Leopard looks great and I thin you've earned a break from the speed builds for awhile.  

Now, where has that Bondo gotten to?  This weekend was all about him but haven't seen anything from the salty old sea dog since he washed his parts.  Guess all that traveling he did before hand did him in.  Either that or he has been too busy with that resin monster to post his progress.  Here's hoping it's the later.

Few other unfinished builds out there yet:

Karl:  Would love to see some photos of your finished Skyray.  You were very close to being finished

Buddy:  I take it you didn't start a second model?  Would like to see the X-12 finished though.

MrSquid:  How's that cool six wheeled dune buggy coming along?

Invertman, M1 A1 A2 Tanker:  Would love to see youguys finish your builds as well.

Too bad I did this one so fast. There some issues that more time would have allowed to fix. The last 2 weekends have been fun but I think I'm done with speed builds for a while.

Brett, those decals would have been quite a chore for a 10 year old. They were not the best I've worked with, it took 30 min to an an hour for each side and multiple applications of Microsol to get them to lay down right. 

Kermit, they are Airfix's wierd 1/76 scale.

I have to say weekend builds are not my style, I realized I am a drive by modeler. I sit down at the bench work on one kit for 20 minutes, work on another kit for 20 minutes, go watch TV, come back and tinker with a 3rd model for an hour, go split some wood, come back and do some more work on kit #1... This was almost work having to focus on a specific model and schedule time at the bench.

I am really impressed to see how some were able to turn out really nice and rather detailed models in only 48 hours.

Brett- Nice work on the vehicles.

Richard- WOW! that's all I can really say, That Sabre is outstanding.

So, someone tell me again why we can do things with the proverbial gun to our heads in 48 hours that usually take us 6 months or more to do?

Well fellas, im calling this Sabre done! The kit itself was basic but alot of fun to do. The kind of kit you would do with your (grand)son to get him or her into the hobby. Not alot of parts but looks great once finished. (Grand)daddy can do the filling and sanding

The kit does not provide you with the yellow fuselage and wing bands, only the black outlines so i dove into my spares box and used some Academy ones. I simply did not have the time to mask and spray... Most definately the worst decals i have ever used but  a swimming pool of microsol beat them in the end.Also the checkered tail is Academy, not the tailnumber.

I chose to omit the tiny panel scribbling decals because this decalsheet will come to good use on a longer term project (maybe a foiled sabre...dunno yet). That german bird looks very dashing and i simply couldnt get myself to use up all those great decals on a weekend kit...

Apart from that i hope you guys like my second effort. It was great fun to do!

Well they are a week late, but here is the ambulance and crash truck.

That brings back memories, I built that kit when I was about 10 years old (it wasn't painted until a couple of years after it was assembled, and the decals were simply too much of a challenge for me back then).

however I do have that in my current stash, I originally bought it for my son, but I am thinking I might even build it myself.

OK, so me and Nick banged this F-15 out in like 10 minutes. I didn't realize it was pre-camouflaged and decaled. He liked it as is so no painting was done.

One thing I have learned from doing Snap-Tite kits that your little fully intends to play with is, use glue anyway, unless you want to have them coming to you every 10 minutes asking you to fix a part that fell off...

I know this post was pretty useless, I just was having problems watching this thread getting pushed down when some of us are still building.

Richard, I agree, that Sabre looks great so far.

I haven't really been stopping for any progress pics. Just trying to see how fast I can bang this sucker out.

All that is left is the tracks, antenna, and pioneer tools. Since I will be sitting on my butt watching football all day tomorrow, I see no reason why I can't finish this on time.

25 hours in and ready to shoot some paint:

This kit is even more fun than the Mig i did. Needs some sanding and fiddling but nothing horrible. The only thing that really bothers me is the fact that the forward canopy has a gap molded into it. Hope i dont fog up the insides...

To everyone who's started, looking good, hoping for more pics.  Here's my start shot at part II.  Airfix Hawk 1/72 scale. 

Getting started a little later than planned, but she's underway.

Its now around noon on the first day and assembly is goin as planned: Pit is painted and major fuselage parts joined and filled/sanded:

I must say i am pleasantly pleased with this old rebox. The pit is desperately yearning for scratching or aftermarket parts (4 part pit with decals for IP and dials) but overall fit is nothing than satisfying. I must say that i am having heaps of fun with it and no problems to speak of.

OK here we go. I'm starting in about 15 minutes at 2000 PST. The Anigrand 1/72 Republic XF-12 Rainbow (F for photo(?)) reconnaissance bird.

I bought this a while back during a project to build all of the aircraft which were powered by the Pratt R4360.

With a longer range than the B-29 and a top speed of 450 mph ground speed, this was designed for advance recon of Japan from the bases in the Marianas.

Only two were built, as the RB45 was soon to surpass it in performance, but it was the fastest piston engined aircraft for a couple of years immediately postwar.

Tonight I'll wash the parts and dip the vac bits in Future.

Up early tomorrow to glue together the major assemblies.

It's Saturday here so i think i'll have a 2nd go at it  with the Tamiya Kubelwagen, gotta wait till the kiddies are in bed though..............

HAHA! Brett, I noticed the same thing. Of course any unfortunate pile of plastic that falls into my hands feels the same way...

Got started on this weekends build. Tamiya's 1/35 Kampfpanzer Leopard.

I forgot to take before photos. I started this one at about 1530 CST.

So far the wheels and hull are painted:

Nick doesn't know it yet build he and I will be knocking out the Revell 1/100 F-15 Eagle (Snap-Tite) for this one too.

Oh, and before I forget, the P-38 is freaking awesome! Can't say enough about it.

Kermit, I am looking forward to seeing you pull off this Saber in a weekend. I do know that is a re pop of the old ESCI kit. I have one in my stash and really want to see how this one builds and turns out.

P38 is a real beauty.  I haven't touch any kits, since last weekend....I look forward to diving back in this weekend.
