Bob - the Hog's looking great! My favorite modern aircraft! Well, that and the AC-130...
On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2
On Deck: 1/350 HMS Dreadnought

Rich, that sub is freakin' awesome man!! Great touch with the greenish wash - that was a great idea!
Bob, the preshading on the 'hog looks real nice, and I have to tell ya, I hate painting bombs! Yours look amazing!
Doogs, if it's cool with you, I'd like to change one of my entries. The Jug will stay (I know it's one of your faves, and I think it's pretty cool too). What I'd like to do is delete the Avenger and replace it with an AFV Club 1/35 LeFH18M 105mm german howitzer. Figured I could have a lot of fun weathering the snot out of that beast.
...and the front page looks great - each and all, top quality builds!

With a rainny 3 days in the Carolina's I got a chance to work on my Thunderbolt. I have'nt posted in a while but I have been following along. Some fine work being done here. The thunderbolt is finished, but lets start with the pre-shading.
I never preshaded before so I'm not sure of the results.
and the completed bombs
I dont want to over load this post so I will end it here. Next post the final results.

Alright...updated the front page I think...if I missed anything, let me know and I'll fix it right quick.
And I am positively itching to get back into this GB. The Achilles is pretty well along, and on a brief hiatus while I wait for the LHS to get my friuls in stock, and I'm getting a sense that the Pup's going to be something of a long-term build.
So I might be firing something else up here in the near future...
kermit And moving right on... Doogs, I believe you will remember mentioning this one to me: Can i enter that one? Richard

Ooooooh goodie! Got this one in my stash and it is absolutely stunning! Having serious issues picking builds going forward - got too many kits I want to build.
Also - when you get a chance, would you mind grabbing a pic of the u-boat that shows off the whole thing from the exposed side? Need to get it up on the front page.

Hey guys,
I am calling my sub done! Had one major FUBAR moment with it a few hours ago when i secured a rigging line with tamyia tape, ripping off part of a decal... What was i thinking!!
Anyways, other than that it turned out to be a nice rustbucket:
After heavy drybrushing and washes i got the idea to use a very thin green wash on the lower hull as to simulate algea and such:
Hope you guys like her too!
This is the set, http://www.cmkkits.com/en/detail-sets-accessories/f-117-a-detail-set/ also includes the bomb bay.
Cheers
On the bench: A-4F 1/32 Hasegawa
Just deployed: F6F-5N Hellcat Nightfighter 1/48 Eduard
Up next: A6-E Intruder 1/48 Revell
Its one of the easiest builds ever. Only hard part that i could see was the bomb bay which i excluded. The decals dont seem to respond too well to micro sol though.

Scorpiomikey Can i change mine to the Tamiya 1:48 F-117. I started it the other night and its almost put itself together lol. Still not sure if im gonna go blue black with chalky weathering or pre-production camouflage with light wear and tear.

Hey Scorp I got my F-117 today. I've also ordered the CMK upgrade kit that has full resin and PE cockpit and wheel well extras. Should be a fun build!
Rudratt that WWI bird is just a showstopper. Richard great progress on the sub. Jon the 190 is looking just like the Youtube video, brilliant. The Stuka is just a killer great work there.
Terry.
Hey Doogs, I'm gonna have to take off the last two entries I have. Why? Despite having projects out the wazoo with limited time I came across a 1/48 Revell F/A-18E yesterday at the LHS and decided to scoop it up as it was only $17 and I've been wanting to do a jet for awhile.
Soooooo I think I'm gonna enter the jet for this build along with the B-25 already listed and keep it at just those 2 planes
*EDIT: I now notice that there aren't any jets on the roster so perhaps it will be a nice change of pace from the props and tanks

On The Bench: 1/48 HK B-17G "Man-O-War II"
On Deck: 1/48 Tamiya P-38H, 1/48 Revell PV-1
It's great to see this GB still movin' along!
Brutus, very nice work so far. Keep us posted - it looks great!
Richard, that sub is just way too cool! I haven't built a sub in decades, but may have to have at it after seeing your build. Very inspiring!
Jon, I'm simply blown away man! The dio just looks too real - that is some serious weathering, some of best I've ever seen. Happy to see that Stuka too, especially after the anxious moments with the white wash. Looks freakin' amazing!
Heya ...
I think it looks great !! ...
It actually looks very much like the warbirds abandoned in the weeks and months before the end of the war ...
The ground crews no longer had parts and fuel to fix, repair and/or replace the necessary items to keep 'em flying ... keeping the paint looking good was probably the lowest item on the priority list ...
pepper
And here is the Stuka....lots of things went wrong here...I attempted a winter wash for the first time and I tried to do it without an airbrush...I didn't like the way it looked at all so I thought I'd have to strip it. In the process of stripping, I liked the way the Testor's paint thinner was pulling the paint off so that is what I did and thankfully it saved me some work. I coated the bottom with Future, one coat before decals and one after. When I went to apply a wash using artist oils thinned with, well, Testor's thinner, it devoured the Future and gave it a some what chipped appearance...Ordinarily, this would look great if applied to a tank or old car but on a Stuka? Not so much. So I'll have to be more careful next time...

My Blog: The Combat Workshop
Kermit, awesome lookin' sub! I've never done one before but I'd always like to weather a 1/72 U-boat...
I'm calling the Fw 190 done and it is now on the base. Well, for all intents and purposes its done though I have a few minor things I need to tweak, like the moss on the wings and such. Any how, here it is...
I feel like I rushed it a bit and didn't exactly produce a nice base....Every model is a learning experience and I always try to come away with a different attitude after each build. This, and the Stuka, certainly taught me not to rush, be complacent or eliminate certain techniques because of laziness....it shows in the work. As much fun as this GB was, I don't think I put out a good enough effort which is probably why I haven't posted a pic of the Stuka yet.....
Therefore, I'm going enter one more entry for the sake of my own redemption. I'll be weathering an old 1.48 ARII Hellcat.
Oddmanrush,
That is simply stunning man! I can just picture it with the water and foliage! Excellent stuff
Well,... My sub has paint on it and a coat of future afterwards. Getting closer to the "rustbucket stage"....
I tried to get some shading going by coloring in the panellines with the base paint plus some drops of white added... It's subtle and my siphon fed airbrush (revell vario, which is actually mostly a license produced Badger vega 2000) went to it's limits to do this kind of fine spraying but i like how it turned out myself... Next up is some washes and drybrushes to make the detail "pop" more.
SJM, do it, join the build, you know you want to!
Ok, a bit of news and a picture. I salvaged the Stuka without as much effort as I thought I would have to put out. Instead of stripping the white wash off the model all together and repainting, I discovered that after the white had cured a bit for about 24-48 hours, I could chip the paint off by applying some paint thinner and work it with a stiff brush. Looks a lot better with a distressed white coat. I'll carry on with it.
As for the picture, I've begun working on the forest base for the downed Fw 190. I took it early this morning so lighting is aweful, as it normally is for my ridiculous WIP photos....Tonight I'll apply vegetation and some replicated water that the 190 will be sitting in.
Thanks,
A WEATHERING GB!!! Why the !#$%& didn't I think of that! So simple, so poetic. Not sure how I feel about having one of those "wingy" things in my badge line though...
I found out about this one through the FSM email update...I'm going to kick the idea around a bit and check the stash for some unique weathering opprtunities.
...this has got to be the modeling gods telling me to get an AFV back on the workbench.
Errnie, great hearing from you, my friend! Thanks for the kind words!
put all the final bits on, and decided I kinda screwed the pooch by putting some color on it so early. Oh well, learning experience. Any way, she'll now get hull red, salt color, and then camo. Tracks are another subject, my 1st time doing indy's from Dragon, and they're sitting in the box "pointing at me and laughing"....
Had some fit issues, needed some filling
Mike - I finally got a chance to take a good look at the Pfalz...man you out-did yourself! Thanks so much for a
great model and something for us newish modelers to strive for. Can't get enough of yours and the other
master-modeler type's work. Keep it coming!
Ernie
Seeing double is a good thing...when it comes to wings.
Been there myself Jon on more than one occasion. That's a bummer, especially since you've got the markings on already. Sometimes I'll just walk away from it for a while and tackle something else, but I can also be stubborn at times, and occasionally that wins out and I'll sit there 'till I get it right if it kills me. Most times though, cooler heads prevail.
Thanks Ruddratt but I f'ed up the Stuka tonight trying to apply the winter wash so I am not happy. I'm going to have to strip it and repaint...another set back...maybe I should get to work on the base for the 190 eh? I hate nights like this...
Jon, I really do appreciate the comments. Thanks buddy!
...and may I add a "Holy Cow!!!" about your Fw. That is some serious weathering on that bird - makes mine look like it's right off the showroom floor. Can't wait to see your expertise applied to the Stuka.
Doogs, you certainly have a great way with words. I almost fell off my chair laughing after reading your post describing the "less attractive" aircraft.
Jon - I'll get your finished-for-now 190 up soon, too.
Forgive me. Don't get on the computer much during the weekends (though I do monitor the forums on the iPhone...just can't reply or anything with it), doubly so this past weekend, with the kiddo's birthday party, family in town, blah blah blah. That coupled with work craziness has made it tough to find a lot of forum time...
Small update...
Consider the Fw 190 done...for now, until I can get it on a base and finish it up.
In the mean time, I've moved on to the Stuka. It's Revell's 1/48 boxing. Typical. Half decent kit but I really hate the canopy. A little background: My father built it but he doesn't have an airbrush and doesn't want to brush paint so he passed it my way to paint. We kind of tag team the model I suppose and we've have done this for several of his builds.
Any how, I intend on putting a nice, weathered (obviously) winter white wash on it. Here is how she sits now. Shiny.
ruddratt No prob Doogs. I still have two more in the wings for this GB. Gonna get to work on the SE.5 for the WWI GB, and I'll be jumping back in here after that for the 1/72 Jug. Rich, mighty fine work on that sub! Always loved those cutaways!

I cannot WAIT to see that Hisso take shape! Thing I love about WWI is that you have all these really graceful aircraft, but then all these ungainly, somewhat fugly planes that look like someone strapped a Model T to the front or something. The SE.5 is totally one of the latter...but I love it for that.
Impressive work there Ruddratt! You WWI types always impress me with your rigging jobs. Good stuff
