I'm taking forever, too, because I'm in multiple builds. I Just got in my Nakajima grey/green paint from White Ensign for my Zero with but I know it wont be untill the end of June before I use it.

Uhhh.... don't feel bad at all Joe. I'm embarassed to admit that I haven't even started. The Zero is still sitting in the box. (At least the plastic's off.) Like Nick I have started a new job and there have been several other distractions. I honestly don't even know when I'll be able to start this project... let alone forsee the finish. Sorry all.

just curious is anyone else as slow as i am with this build? seems like it is taking me forever to complete.

i never really "disappeared"[:0], just i started a new job and have been really busy...it's been frustrating, as there has been so much stuff i wanted to reply to, but only reallyy had time for a quick read!

Nick , I was wondering where you dissapeared off to.
Well glad to see your posts again.

The black stripes on the spinners are actually decals.
First I cut them out and remove all the carrier flim.
This leaves a decal that looks like a black "C".
Then before I dipp it in water I curve it around the spinner
to see how far it goes around and how much I need to trim off.
Trim so you get a little bit off overlap.Then dip the decal in water
and continue as you would normaly decal.

As for using masking tape here is a little picture of what I had to do
after I destroyed some decals.
I cut tamiya masking tape extra thin strips and using a toothpick I
applied them to the nose of the a/c.Then filled the blanks with masking tape.


rjkplasticmod has some good tips on how to paint spinners,

well folks i am not by definition finished with my p-40b but i am by all purposes done. i have to get the decal for the tail and that would be it. i dont want to post the finished until i get that. so i guess by definition i am still building. just an update, i think.

Vintage Aircraft i think most people are done on this build, but hey, it's never "too late"!!

i have real problems with masking on compound curved surfaces!!
would love to know, as i'm limiting myself to paint schemes with single colour spinners at the moment!

Hey is it too late to join this group build. I do have a Monogram Zero that i could build and have done in under 3 weeks.

I couldn't trust myself on mixing the right colors for my Zeroes and get them to look like Obiwan's . I just ordered 3 jars of the Zero Grey-Green from White Ensign.

thats great joe ,homemade decal paper is the way to go.
too bad you can't print and design your boss.

actually came up with a different idea today. as i now have the font for usaac for ww2 (thanks to those who posted in the decal threads) i am going to print out one sheet with sizes appropriate for the 1/48 and 1/72 a/c. then i am going to take it to a local printer who has said he has lazer printer friendly decal paper. this way i will only have to do one sheet and i will get the print i need. i think i can get that font to work for usn a/c also. we shall see how this turns out. got the new stars and new wheels today so i will be able to do most of the repair work within the next few days. was so eager wanted to take them to work and work on the models i have going. the boss advised me this would not be a wise decision.

hmmmm, well good luck.
if the letters do not include "O" or "s" ,the curvy types,
maybe you could cut little black pieces and slowly align them.

obiwan, tried to cut them out and destroyed them. my own eagerness to get done again. thankyou though. i will have to find a decal sheet i am afraid.

joe , by yellow print do you mean the decals have yellowed?
if so tape them to a window or car windshield.
If they are printed in yellow then use a sharp scapel or scissors and slowly
cut the decal flim on the dry decal and respray them white.
Alternatetively you could use them to mask white markings.

Sorry no easy answers from here.

ok folks coming right down to the end of mine, but have hit a snag. the decals for the kit have yellow print so i ordered and recieved a 45 degree sheet of 1/48 numbers and letters. now the prob. i have no letters that fit the size needed for the tail of my p-40. tried a marker, no go. then i tried to resize the sheets i have no go. i am lost as to what to do. any suggestions?

thanks fightnjoe and obiwanthe kit is the hobbiecraft kit standard decals and a resin cockpit I will try to get closer in on it with out blurring I will now put on my medal hehehe and thanks again.

Wow I love the P40K absolutely smashing stuff as for the Zeke
my mouth is watering already.
What kit is the P40 btw?It really looks lean and mean ,standard kit decals, I suppose?
As for the PHGB badge ,I am sure we all would be honoured
if you would wear it.

Well here is my P40 K i know its not in the time frame its all I had I am also doing the zero as well seeing there is only like 34 parts to it .It amazing what you can do when you get laid off from work

as pix said, i think the "K" version is post pearl, so the zero would be more accurate..but hey, go with what you're happy doing!

About the p40's I only have the flying tigers which I think is a K version. So would that be ok if not I I guess I will have to do the Zero from fujimi kit came with hellcat as well (which I opened the box after 6 years and is not that impressive).

I'll wear my badge with pride too!
