Thundergod - I believe that there are still people working on builds for this group. We never set a finish date, though.

If your Zeke is an A6M2, it would be appropriate. The Grace was not yet in service at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. The P-40s were B or C models, if I'm not mistaken.

Welcome aboard if you're joining ! (I finished mine a couple of monthe ago)

nick - I just put this together. I tried it with text also, but it clutters the image. I think it says it. What do you think?

just an update. doing the plumbing on the landing gear, first time i have tried this. actually looks pretty good right now. used 28 and 24 guage wire. hope the paint takes to it. going to hand brush the gear and the immediate area, then going to airbrush the underside of the plane. wish i had a camera that i could post the progress pics.

joe

ok fixed the camera problem. here is the landing gear.

Hey PHGB'ers;
Just received and read the Dec. 2001 back issue FSM article on the 1:96 scale Akagi. Great! Am interested in contacting the builder of the planes on the ship. Would like to talk to him about his research and his sources. His name is Brad Sekigawa. I know it might be a reach but, can anybody help with this?

perhaps we didn't make ourselves clear either in this group build or elsewhere in the forums, but this group build is just as much yours as it is mine, or pixilater's, or fightnjoe's or obiwan's...i think you get the picture now, right?!!
these things are made more fun because we all help each other out, so the fact that you are not participating directly in the build in no way precludes you from piping up with any thoughts, comments or suggestions!!Big Smile [:D]
do i make myself clear??!!Tongue [:P]
now get posting!!!Big Smile [:D]

ps i'm off to fill the me262 build with thoughts, comments and suggestions...if i have any which are useful...errr...errr...

Hi there guys - I'm back
I hope you don't mind me butting on your group build.
Fightnjoe
Maybe this will help with your camera, I'm no expert, but as Pixilater says try using a diffuse light source - flourescent lamps, or even beter natural light. The other possible solution is to group a couple of lamps to create a spotlight effect. Just watch out for shadows. I'm assuming that you're using digital camera, as flourescent light can affect colurs on film cameras.
Good luck.

Nice Kate Obiwan!
I'm starting on a 1/48 Hasagawa Val. Anybody got a lead on where I can find some info on what the cockpit looks like as far as colors go? I realize there aren't any surviving Kates or Vals today. Since I don't have a digital camera, I'll have to figure out a way to get some pics onto the Forum. Got 3 planes built but can only show 1. Again, nice Kate.

i think i overdid the salting technique - my bird looks like she spent 2 months at the bottom of pearl before she started flying around it!!

that must be the salt of the sea technique.

Nick , the panel lines are done with artist's watercolor and the colour is sepia.
They are very easy to use , just apply on any gloss coat and then wipe off
with a damp cloth , very forgiving.

It also tends to be uneven thus creating a more realistic effect.

obiwan, how did you do those panel lines by the way? what sort of wash? (i presume...)

anyways,
i'm all done with my p-40b.Big Smile [:D]
i think i overdid the salting technique - my bird looks like she spent 2 months at the bottom of pearl before she started flying around it!!Laugh [(-D]
i also used black pastels around the gun ports and exhausts (the latter i drilled and scraped out) for the first time and was very pleased with the results.
this was my first "dirty" build of a plane, and pastels are very forgiving...even if you screw it up, just wipe it off with damp cloth or even your finger, but they should be applied to a matt - not gloss - surface for them to get any "grip".
thanks guys as i really enjoyed this build, and when i finally work out how to get my camera to "speak" to my pc, you'll see what my bird looks like!Wink [;)]
