Bocks, that little stainless ruler showed up years ago needing a home. I still don't remember where it came from. It is probably third on the tools hierarchy behind the knife and tweezer, it's been so useful. As for the pull rings, I was going to roll mine from wire. It'll keep a consistent circumference, and would hold it's shape really well. Speakin' of MiG's, maybe we can do a "Phantom Fodder" build next year

There's a good chance I put it in another kit by accident, that's what I like to say to myself when I know there's no hope in styx of ever seeing a part again.

The good news is that my Gator Glue arrived, I ordered it when I was a pre-teen.

I'm not sure how to take that box art... it could be said to be in the same genre as the classic Aurora boxtop that showed a pilot bailing out of a Bf 109, but to include battle damaged parts is something else... I guess that was the Cold War at it's grass-roots level, making sure the next generation grew up confident the enemy was vulnerable. It makes me take another look at my own memories of unquestioningly accepting the Airfix box art in which the plane with the target on the side was usually emphasised as victorious over the plane with the cross on the side, the eternal reflection of the fact that "we won," and choosing to ignore the tens of thousands of times that the reverse was true... This is a can of worms, to be sure.

Here's the old bird:

Check out the wing tank angle on that baby! I never liked this plane as a kid, but I have to tell you, now it's way up there like my second favourite airplane! I especially came to like it when I found out it was the daddy of the Thud, heck they even used the same wing tanks!

Rich, I don't want to bash your kit if it's viable. I actually have another one in green, and the Heller rendition as well. But I never grew out of feeling like a kid without a blanket when it came to incomplete kits. Kind of pathetic, really, I remember a hobby store offered to replace a missing Sabre canopy for me for free, and when I picked it up I happened to ask about where they got it from, when they told me they were going to throw the rest of the kit out, guess what, I ended up with one more Sabre, and still had the one with a missing canopy! Get this, i found a kit that could be built canopy open or closed, and tada, it had two canopies. Not a perfect match by any means, but at least I could sleep at night. 

I know, there must be treatment for that!

I found a dead partially assembled F-84F kit.   Same kit.  It has broken and missing stabalizers so it's a parts bird.  The canopy has been badly painted (not by me..) but may be usable.  The one problem is the forward section of the canopy.  It is split at the edge of the frame.  I am sure I can fix it with a dab of Tamiya Orange top glue.  The model is the exact kit you imaged.   Let me clean it up fix the broken one and try to get the paint off with something and I will let you know if I can get the thing usable.

Okay, I have the front canopy windscreen glass glued, it should hold.  I am out of Easy Lift Off, so I won't be able to safely remove the existing paint, but it you want to try, I'll send the the pieces out to you.  The rear canopy section will need a bit of sanding and possibly a tiny bit of putty where a small strip along the bottom starboard side didn't separate cleanly from the fuselage.  PM me your address if you want the parts and I will see if the Mrs. would be kind enough to stick in the mail tomorrow.  BTW, does anyone have a right (starboard) nose landing gear door, for a Revell F84-E 1/48 kit.  I found an old kit I had started a couple of years ago but stopped when the nose gear door snapped off and disappeared... LOL..  It's amazing how you start looking for one thing and end up looking finding three others...

Guess what.  I just found a second F84-F parts kit.  It's the green one but has exactly the same parts as the NMF one.  Including all three cockpit components, two of which are still on trees  The mid section needs a bit of sanding where it was glued at one time, but is unpainted and in great shape.  So I will be sending these out instead of the painted ones..  I found the F84F and E parts kit boxes, but neither had the nuke you mentioned.  It may be in yet another box in the closet.  If I find it, I will let you know.

Hi Dominic,

That looks like one of the very first F-101As.  In fact, with the number "10" on the nose, it is probably the 10th one.  Very cool!

The nuke comes with that Monogram kit pictured above #5437, and also with the green version #5432.

I currently have two in my inventory, one partially completed and another still on the tree.

I was surprised to see that picture because although I'ld heard about the Voodoo carrying a nuke, I'ld never seen it until now. It confirmed that the Voodoo was capable, and that Monogram's rendition of the bomb is actually quite reasonable. I always thought it was a an 'artist's impression'. The bomb pictured above doesn't have the de rigueur band around the nose, so that part was/is fantasy.

The Monogram Hustler kit comes with a pile of nukes, they look like the next generation of the one above.

If you haven't got an F-84 nuke I can spare one for sure.

"If you haven't got an F-84 nuke then a Hustler nuke will do, if you haven't got a Hustler nuke, then God bless you!" -yeah, I remember Christmas in the early 60's, lots of models under the tree!

Nah Ken, no news...

I have one almost complete parts kit which is the one you are getting the glass from.  One semi demolished partial build which is in bad shape, Both are F84-F kits, the 5437 and I don't know about the green one.  I still have a sealed kit for all three Monogram variants (E, F and G), which will probably be built one day when I am feeling particularly massochistic...  I also have 2 1/48 Monogram B-58 kits.  One for build and one for collection or to give to my Daughter when she get's to that skill level.   The parts kit box for the 5437 kit didn't have the nuke in it so it may just be lost in carpet purgatory.   I am sure the sealed one has all the parts at least.  Your glass is all packed up and ready to go.  I'll see if I can send it priority to make sure it gets there.  It depends on how much postage difference is.  Make sure to let me know when you build that one.  I will want to see pics. lol.

No word yet.  But recovering from surgery is a pain in the backside.  It takes days for the anesthesia to get out of your system, and all you want to do is sleep and get ill for a few days after.  So I'm sure he's just resting it off.

Most of my search look-ups have been for the big bay mounted Mega++ nukes, somehow missed the Mk-7's. I built some sketchy replicas of the fictional nukes from Dr. Strangelove for my Monogram 1/72 Buff. Yeah, that was a great film until I realized I had a slightly different worldview, I mean, um, ....I see the world through styrene coloured glasses, and I really do love the bomb, er, yeah, er, love it under under that Monogram F-101 kit....that's the ticket!

Rich. I've got the old version with the '58 in-flight all mirror aluminum. The wings were warped and dished up in a 2 degree dyhedral and I had to fix that, then kept going, repairing the incorrect wheel sponson along the way.

Maybe we could all send you spare parts, and you could be proactive and sacrifice them to the carpet monster to appease it's appetite. Who knows, maybe what it really wants for breakfast is a cat! I think the Mayans got started like that, huh?

Hey, good news, In an old filing cabinet I found a Hawk 1/48 F-84G, chrome plated, I don't remember buying.....maybe your monster left a present.....

It's great to have ya back Berny!  I'm glad the procedure went relatively well.  I just got put on some heavy duty painkillers too (Vicoden)..  Great stuff...  Everytime I look at something that is bright green, I see it like it almost glows....  At least it lessens the constant migraines I have to a tolerable level.  I hope yours work as well.

I think I saw that aluminium Hustler at a flea market many years ago.  I remember it because I begged my cheapskate dad for the buck and a half ($1.50 not $150) to get it but he wouldn't...  It looked cool though.  My first B-58 was the old Aurora kit.  The place I used to get my kits at that time was a little pharmacy a few doors down from my elementary school.  Every week on Monday I would drop in after school and see what they had.  It took me months to save up the $6.50 for the kit back then. lol  I also got the old Aurora XB70 Valkyrie kit there on the last day of school in 5th grade.  I had to borrow the $6.50 for that one from my uncle who was luckily over visiting my grandparents that day.  He laughed his head off when I had to pay him back in pennies and nickles a few weeks later.  Those Aurora kits were great.  Nice detail, well made and relatively inexpensive.

I know one cat in the house who I wouldn't mind feeding to the carpet monster..  My Wife's little ball of destruction Raven.  She is responsible for the premature death of at least 6 completed kiots, and about 7 or 8 in progress kits that became instant parts kits because of her.  Then again.  I could try and feed it my Daughter's Iguana.  The scaly menace flipped me off the other day after I fed him...  What an Ingrate...  I swear, he actually DID flip me off.  And I think he knew what he was doing too.  We have this constant Alpha dominance issue...  So he hates my guts.

I gave the parts to Wifey to mail today.  So you should have them soon.  Good luck with the one you found. :)

Yup.  That's the model my two kits are.  Although in better box shape though. lol

Zilla is about 6 feet long stt (Snout To Tail).  About 3.5feet StV (Snout to Vent).  The vent is his equivalent of the um.... solid waste disposal orifice.  He's almost 8 lbs.  And he still has another year or so to grow.  He hates Raven...  When he was about a year old he lost about 7 inches of tail to her.  They are capable of separating a portion of their tails to get away from predators.  Luckily it was the very thin part near the end.  It healed and grew back on it's own.  Now every time he sees her, he puffs up, head bobs and tries to give her a tail whip.  This is why he doesn't have free run of the house...

On a more on topic note.  I got some more work done on the FGR.2 and the Monogram kit.  Marissa is still sanding hers a bit.
