the Baron

B-36?  Have a look at this, from the WWII Weekend at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum a couple of weeks ago:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii315/theBaron0530/2011%20MAAM%20WWII%20Weekend/254MonogramB-36s.jpg

I did not get to talk to the vendor, though, to find out how much he wanted per kit or for all four.  But I  remembered a discussion on some forum about trying to find this kit online today, and though, "Wow, four in one place, at one time...."

I didn't realize that they were getting hard to find. My wife got mine at Hobby Lobby a few years ago in a Revell/Germany repop. Looks like three of them are still shrink wrapped.

Dang, that B36 is a monster! Are you building an addition to the house to store it in?

THe b-25 construction is completed and I'm off to spray the paint. However this week is gonna be humid. Is there anything I need to take into consideration when painting in these conditions? I'll be in the garage, btw, with the door open.

Hi, ya'll!

I finished the Red Baron. It was a blast! I wish the paint turned out better. There's the "Tijuana Taxi" at HL still; maybe I can score one for Christmas. Work has also progressed on the B-36; wings are on, and I'm hoping to get to painting in a couple of weeks. I need to start using the kitchen table. Those planes sitting on top of the B-36 are a Me109, Spitfire, P-51, and F4U....all the same scale.

I've lurched ahead with the Zero build.  I have the fuselage, wings and horizontal stabilizers all assembled, and some flat aluminum applied to areas where I will chip the top coat.  The canopy masking is half finished.  But I apologize, I want to wait till I have the canopy attached and the top coat applied, to post photos from this stage.

For the A-26, the flaps are now completely drilled out.  Everything is smooth sailing from that point Big Smile

Owl,

Happy birthday! My eldest daughter`s b`day is today, she`s 17....and I feel really old..lol. She had a choice, a big bash or a few friends at the spa and then the mall...she chose the latter. They just got back from the spa and I`m gearing up for the trip to the Hamilton Mall. Of course, as soon as I sat down at my bench, they walked through the door..lol.

The engines look great. Must be like micro-surgery to wire them though!

Take care,

Len

and a further explanation for the tip? Even better! Thanks Hammer!  Toast

The past fiew days have been super busy for me. Mom planned a big Summer Bash/Open house/my 20th Bday party at our house. The house needed a through cleaning, decorations put up, games planned, food cooked....then 30+ people came! It was a bit overwhelming to have that many people in the house at one time, but sure was fun! Mom left the house to me yesterday so I can get some peace and quiet. That gave me time to recharge and work on my model a bit more.

I finished the wiring on the two engines, then painted them up. This was my first time wiring, and even with only half the wires, it drastically improved the looks! I don't know how someone could do this in 1/72 though!

And here are the major assemblies of the plane

 Hans von Hammer:

Owl, that's some good thinking on the ammo chutes, but if I may, cable zip-ties work much better for ammo chutes...

zip-ties, huh? Thanks for the tip Hammer!

No sweat... Here's what they look like installed:

First, the prototype:

Now the model:

This's Tiny's first attempt at super-dectailing the Monogram Fort.. Excellent work he did...

I bought a bag of assorted widths ( Need .30 Cal and 1/32 50.cal too) from Wally World for like .77 cents...  While they don't duplicate the actual feed chutes all that closely, they come close enough fo our purposes here... And is easily recognized as to what it's for.. "Suggestion", rather than "Duplication" is the key to sucessful completing "Gizomology 101"... It doesn't have to be "bolt-for-bolt, Nut-for-nut" to pass.. It just has to be instantly recognizable as to what it is or what it does.....

Nice work on the Devastator.  Had one of those in the stash before I decided to build 1/72 only.  The F8F is in primer.  No pics yet.  Decals are dated 1966 so they won't be used.  Fortunately, Revell Germany repopped this kit this year and I now have usable decals, as well as another Bearcat.

Navigator, stick with the Tomcat it will not disappoint you.  It does have some fit issues but, when you are done it will look good. Stikpusher the Sabre is looking good. You guys are beginning to give me a big head with the kind comments. Thanks again everyone. As I have said many times Monogram's kits for the money can't be beat. Glad to be part of the "family".

MKelley wow nice work on the Devastator ! It feels good to beat all the trials and tribulations of some of the kits to turn out a fine looking model.  I too love the prewar paint schemes.

The Navigator thats a nice start on the Tomcat, I will be watching with great interest as I have 2 more in the stash waiting to be built. Just finished one not too long ago in the Swingwing GB

MKelly, great looking Devestator! Beer  I am beginning to like those "pre-war" paint schemes on the Navy birds, rather loud but they look "here I am".

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

Hi everyone, here's an update on my F-14. The kit deserves it's reputation, gaps and warps abound! Thanks to Darren Roberts for his article and everyone who posted on my advice thread.

This pic shows the fit issues with this plane. I filled the gap between the lower fuse and nose with styrene. In an attempt to save the side detail, I masked around the upper and lower fuselage seam and puttied away. The next pic shows the styrene fill from the bottom.

Following Darren's advice, I modified the wings to allow for better fit. I cut off the piece that is used to move the wing. Then I drilled and cut notches so it would fit inside the fuselage.

Before and after:

Comments welcome, thanks for looking

Don HVH, with this offer I believe that my contract is fulfilled. I will buy the wine and the spagetti dinner so that I may become a "made" man.

This one was a bear from start to finish. But, I could not fuggetaboutit. The decal sheet fell apart (even after Microscale decal film), the torpedo split after painting, the DF loop disappeared, scratch built  one out of copper wire, had to paint the wing and fuselage stripes, the wing ones bled under the tape, so repaint the yellow wings, drew the antenna wire a little tight when I put it on so the mast is a little bent back, knocked the landing gear off, put them back on, bent the heck out of the arrester hook, straightened that out . I still have to paint and add the torpedo. I still think that it turned out fairly well though.

Stikpusher the F-86 is really lookin good bud. Its good to see you happily back at the bench and building. BTW thats a sweet mancave you have too Toast

CallSignOwl becoming cross eyed truly is a hazard of the hobby tis why I wear Geeked now, and cant see without a magnifier Surprise

Well one and all and our esteemed Don Hammer, I have made some progress and to prove it I got some WIP Stick out tongue Bout time isnt it Propeller Not too much that can be seen as it has taken some time to get the flaps all dressed up so I can mount them on the wing, hopefully with no trouble, but we all know how that goes huh.

I still have to say this older boxing isn't giving me near the seam troubles I have had with these kits in the past, just a bit of filler here and there, but mostly on the nose and wing root. They still didn't require all that much though, or did I just get lucky hummmmmmmmm Cowboy

A little update for this evening; I'm gonna have to get a camera. I glued the upper wings on the B-36, now it's off the desk cuz' it won't fit. Hopefully I can get the lower section of the wings on next. I also just about have the Red Baron done; it's a quick build, I just wish the paint turned out better.
