Following a change of residence at the begining of this month, until yesterday afternoon I was sidelined from the hobby while I prepped for, executed, and am now recovering from the move (not to mention a university and high school graduation and  family/freind celebrations, for two of my offspring thrown in to boot). Yesterday afternoon the new man cave hobby bench was declared operational...

But today as when I finally got down to business with some painting. Most airbrushing was done on another overdue project, a 1/48 FW-190A (Otaki/Arii,not MonogramSurprise), but I also did some painting on my two Korean War jets: on the F-86 a coat of black on the canopy frames and on the gunsight I am snagging off my Tamiya Sea Harrier, plus steel airbrushed on the gun blast panels and exhaust area; on the F9F black painted on the canopy frames, canopy base, and on the gunsight. A few pics...

F-86 canopy and gunsight

steel gun blast panel and exhaust are

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

I haven't decided if I'm gonna raid my spare decals for a fictional plane, or just using the kit supplied decals. Only one option given though--"Lady Lil" with the big eagle on the nose.

So that kit doesn't have the "Finito Benito" NMF option?

nope. We must have different releases. The date on the decal sheet says 1991, (these decals are as old I as I am!!)

1991 !!!!   Thanks for making me feel old! Surprise

Owl, that's some good thinking on the ammo chutes, but if I may, cable zip-ties work much better for ammo chutes...

zip-ties, huh? Thanks for the tip Hammer!

I agree.  I prefer the Microscale product.  It's good and strong so it wont let the old decal rip, but it seems a bit thinner to me when applying and never silvers.

Microscale industries (the guys that make microset/ sol) have a similar thing called liquid decal film. Works great but i do agree with the Don: Trim close...

And to butt in on the B25 topic: The revell AG repop has another three options that are different from your monogram's: A closed and two glass nose versions. "Russels Raiders", " My Duchess" and the "Lazy Daisy Mae" that i built.

The worst thing is that I have the microscale stuff on the workbench. Never thought about it until I read the post.

I thought that I would be able to show the Devastor sometime later in the weekend, that is until I started the decaling process........ the very old kit decals have fallen apart. I was able to find a Yellow wing set online, it looks like it includes the same markings that I was going to use. I have ordered them. So it will be at least next week now. Maybe I will start on the Tigercat that I found and add that one to list to go along with the Mustang and the Devastator. You gotta love this hobby Bang Head

Little late now I know, but I never dip old decals anymore without giving them a shot of Testor's Decal Bonder... The stuff puts a real, 1st class decal film on the old sheet.  Just make sure you get none on the back, and trim CLOSE...

Yeah, I think you have the "original" Monogram and mine is the Revellogram newer release, not sure of the date.  I think they are of the same mold (have to ask Hammer) but there are different decal options.

Yeah, they're all the same mold... So's the B-25H, for that matter, just with the short nose and the gun and AT parts... The "H" was the original release in the 70's, then the J (both gun-nose and bomb-nose versions) appeared a few years later, late 80's or so...

"Finito Benito" was the last incarnation of the J, IIRC...

For a moment I thought I recognized your Russkie from a photo I took years ago.  Could that be a young Don Hammerloni standing guard?

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss122/lewbud/misc/randolph15.jpg

Taken at Randolph AFB mid 80's.

Mis 80's? Not with THAT haircut... That's back when the CenTex Wing at San Marcos had the 'Cobra done up as one of Ivan's birds though...  I told the story of what used to happen with that bird when it was over-run with the "Gremlins from the Kremlin" earlier, and how they vanished once the Snake was re-painted as a USAAF Airacobra..

Much nicer bird now..

Looking great there Owl, I like the copper coil/amo belt touch, was that your idea?  BTW, I'm building the same kit next, which aircraft are you going to depict?

I got the ammo belt idea from the build Fermis did of Revell's new 1/72 B-17: /forums/t/135589.aspx?PageIndex=6

I am still getting a bit done on my P-51 but just in very small bits. Hopefully I will have some WIP pictures soon.

except for the copper coils that suggest ammo belts, all the detail you see was supplied by the kit.

The B-25 had begun!!!  I have to say, I absolutely love the detail that is included in the Monogram bombers...too bad most of it will be hidden once the fuselage is closed up. But I made sure to take pictures so you guys can see it! Big Smile

But first, proof of pedigree:

and then the interior detail:

The Navigator

Don Hammer-

My 6 yr. old daughter would like to partake in "the business". Here is a snap 68 GTO she did:

Also, could you change the F-8 to a F-14. I stumbled across two damaged Tomcat kits and decided to do one from them instead.

Praise from the Don is what makes modeling worth itCool

Yes, i have seen that same webpage while researching the subject and the history between all the decal options i had. This particular story though tragic kinda kept with me and made me decide to build this particular bird. I also thought that "lazy Daisy Mae" is an excellent name for a bomberSmile

Anyways, thank you for your comment and sharing the link.

Hi everyone, here's a pic heavy update of what's going on over here. The work on this GB is outstanding, I hope my work is at least to standard. The Bf-110 is just about finished, I have to do some weathering, put on the canopy, etc and it'll be done.

Comments and criticisms welcome!

It's not an expensive camera, and yes I used a flash.  It has a smart mode which usually does a great job, but sometimes it just doesn't want to cooperate.  If I try it on manual mode, it's even worse.  It doesn't have a macro setting.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Thanks guys, Appreciate itWink

Sparrow,

Are you using flash on your camera? Or maybe a lamp light pointed at your subject? It has a nasty tendency to flatten out your pictures... Try indirect light and use the macro setting on your camera and step away from the model while taking pictures.

My own camera has this neat "food" setting on it. It will activate the macro and have extra options while photographing to switch between the red and blue spectrum. When my artificial light looks too yellow i can easily add some blues and the pics come out greatSmile

Kermit,

Nice work on the B-25.  Saw one in similar markings at Kermit Weeks' place several years ago.

Sparrow,

Nice work on the Panther and the Cobra's.  For a moment I thought I recognized your Russkie from a photo I took years ago.  Could that be a young Don Hammerloni standing guard?

Taken at Randolph AFB mid 80's.
