And where she is right now:

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/cycledupes/F-5ELate.jpg

As I was taking the pics, realized there are still a few touchups I wanted to get to - namely the unpainted gun barrels, and a few spots of paint, mostly on the tail. Other than that, she's in the bank.

Sweet.. Lemmo know when she's 100% and I'll update the front page..

Now to decide if I keep plugging away on the F-102, or build another F-5 in some exotic camo scheme...

After I spent the time searching for SEA-camo'ed Dueces and units,  Betch can't guess which way I'm leanin'..

As for camo-ing another F-5, that Blue-grey camo used on the F-5 is pretty nice..

I once asked a Squid Tiger-driver at an airshow, Why the blue camo?", and he answered, "It's just part of the training program, getting nuggets used to flying with camo'd aircraft on their wing, and it's also on the Agressor Units (This was back in the late 80's... He had a "Instructor-Top Gun" pach on his sleeve, so I took his word...)

wouldn't it be "Mono-mafiosa" ?

"Mono-mafioso" in the context I used is to be considered gender-neutral.. Looking forward to seeing your Mitchell..

Hey, thanks guys!

RE: the 102 - can SEA scheme markings be had? I haven't really looked, but I don't remember seeing anything in my internet perusals. Anyone who knows of a set, shoot me a link!

Some of the F-102 airframes were indeed done up in the T.O. 114 SEA colors during their (brief) deployment in SE Asia...  As for specific markings and units, I'm not sure on a source for those... However, you should be able to use the national insignia from other kits that are around, or decal sheets for other kits with that finish..  You mght be able to piece together the correct unit codes as well..

As you can see, there aren't a whole lot of marking anyway..

I tend to use spurious (made-up, or phony, for you folks in Rio Linda, CA) markings on most models to keep the Rivet-Counters at bay, m'self... But in case you don't want to, here's some F-102 units that were in SE Asia as early as 1961..

 CallSignOWL:

Don Hammer, I ask if I can add Monograms B-25 to this GB? I wont be able to start it for a bit, and it will be a crossover with NMF III.

You're already a "Made Mono-mafioso", Owl... Add as many kits to this build as you'd like to... The only stipulation is that it has to be finished within the run of the Build...

Goes for the rest of you mugs too...

wouldn't it be "Mono-mafiosa" ?  :P

I estimate that I would be able to begin the B25 in July or sooner, so with an end date in September--that gives me 3 months. That should be plenty of time!

Now that I'm here, where am I??

Went over to modeling madness to check out their F-102 page...seen here

There's only one SEA scheme set listed, superscale #1251, seen here

Would anyone object to me using a case XX wing scheme on a case X wing...?

Still open to other options, of course. Yes

Dupes, very nice on the F-5. Not very ofter you see markings for the Philipine AF. Bare metal finishes are a bear and yours looks flawless. Build the 102 with SEA camo.

Well.  Due to some time constraints and the fact that my Avenger bit the big one, I will instead be doing another F9F.  This one in Blue Angels livery.  It is the 1/48 Monogram kit as well.  I started it this morning and I am taking images as it progresses.  I will put up all of the images when I am done so people don't have to jump to multiple messages to see the progress workflow.  Luckily I have paint and some AM decals for the BA ships.  I do have one question for our experts.  I can't find a good reference photo which shows the landing gear bays and the landing gear colors.  I think they are either white or blue but I'm not sure.  Does anyone know what the colors for the bays and struts are, as well as the inside of the air brake panels?

Thanks

Rich.

I love your Mustang, Mike!  Someday I'll get around to building mine, too (after the -B, the ICM -B, the pre-merger Revell -D...) Big Smile

It's fun to look at the -D kit and see how Monogram improved the details compared to the earlier -B kit, though both are still worthy kits today (which is why we have this build, of course)

Vetteman, Kbuzz01, Bondoman Thanks for the kind words. I have been impressed with the work in this group build. I am looking forward to seeing the Passion Wagon.  I may add another one after the Devastator, I have a Stuka, Corsair, F-100, F-105, B-52 that I am thinking about completing for the build. The Corsair is the front runner at this time.  Thanks again everyone.

Hutchdh man does that Red Baron bring back memories, very well done, And a very nice collection you have of that car too YesYes

Tal Afar Dave

Looking good, Vetteman; how will you mark your Mustang?

Tal Afar Dave these old kits are a blast to build. The markings I will be using are for Lt. Arval Roberson's mount " Passion Wagon" I built his P-51B Passion Wagon he flew before becoming an ace. The Don's fault BTW and now I am building the one he became an ace in. Here's a picture for ya of the D model, its OD over gray.

Oh and it will be the first OD over gray P-51D I have built. Another interesting note, this P-51 also helped another pilot become an ace, Cpt Charles Weaver. He also flew the Mustang as Passion Wagon but with different nose art. I may build that one sometime too as I have 3 more of these kits in the stash.

Hans did you by chance change my build from the air racer to this one ?

MKelly that is one bright good looking Mustang you have created there. Nice work on that gun bay too, I have yet to try detailing the bay. That bright yellow nose with the red nose art is really an eye catcher YesYes

Randy So many to build.......So little time

Don Hammer this is my first part of the contract that I have entered into with the family. May I present my P-51D Mustang, "Miss Detroit". The decals are pretty thick but they went on with no silvering. They are at least 20 years old to boot.

It was a lot of work but, I enjoyed it, now to finish the Devastor.

 hutchdh:

Point taken on the headers...I finally found my Dremel, after our move of over nine months ago!!  I'll hollow those babies out this weekend.   As for the Dr 1, still on sprues, but painted...will assemble this week.  I don't remember, was the small Dr 1 in the original?

Excellent job, Hutch!  The Red Baron is the coolest rod ever!

Regarding the Dr. I sprues, if I remember correctly, they were added after the first issue, but I have to look that up to make sure.

I'm not sure when the Dr 1 was added, but I remember I had in my copy back in 69/70... That's about when I got the Hot Wheels versoin too..

The Tripe was in 1/72 scale, according to the box..

Ha, and Hutch, I think my brother built that thing years.... ago when was it released?

Original release was sometime back in the early 70's...Hans would probably know....the re-release was last year I do believe.

I should have the Mack log truck done by the end of the week. It was full of problems. Has anyone else built these Macks before? I would be interested in their input.

The instructions gave you sequences that would have caused major surgery to resolve so I ended up using them as a guide and changing steps to make the building easier. Another problem was warpage. This kit may have been subject to some external heat and many parts were thusly warped. Some of the rods had to be replaced from plastic stock.

At the same time I had acquired the MG-TC diecast set and I'll show pictures of both together and separate by saturday.

Excellent job, Hutch!  The Red Baron is the coolest rod ever!

I have that rod in progress for yet another group build, but I had to strip all of the chrome, because I couldn't get around cleaning the seams, and some parts had wicked sprue gate marks.  The helmet was scuffed, too.  I used Super Clean, which removed the chrome in under 2 minutes, and used Krylon or someone else's chrome.  And yes, I succumbed to AMS and drilled out the exhausts.  Be careful, if you do, it's easy to slip and grind right through the material, though some putty and CA worked really well to fix it.

Regarding the Dr. I sprues, if I remember correctly, they were added after the first issue, but I have to look that up to make sure.

Best regards,

Brad

Thanks, Brad...looks like you went the extra mile by stripping the chrome.  I opted to just throw it together and give it to my son....the build brought back memories from my childhood and I rather enjoyed it.
