Nice start, SH!  What markings are you going to use, eg, Pacific or North Atlantic?

You know, when I was getting back into the hobby, this was one of the first kits I tracked down, just for that great figure of the crewman running across the deck to mount up for his flight.

Are you retaining the operationg features, too?  I had to glue the wings in place on a couple I built, because I was afraid of breaking them in transport to the club meeting.

Best regards,

Brad

Well.  I am off and running with the Avenger kit.  Assembly is moving along pretty quickly.  I hope to be ready to paint by the end of the week.

Here's a few images

That's about it for now.  More as it progresses.

Heh, I'm the other way on the dot filters.. I think it's a fine armor weathing technique (not one I care to do, but fine, none the less), but I think it's a bit heavy-handed for aircraft that aren't based on "primitive" fields... Of course, that's gonna depend on how grimy you want it to look too.. Your call, at any rate, I'm just sounding off..

Gotta gree about star & bars... Perhaps a little touch-up with the base color and a brush?  That's what I'd do anyway..

Stik, you needin' those small insignias for a T.O. 114 SE Asia Camo? Or will the larger ones from a NMF bird do? I've got some spares from the F-80.. Or were you just askin' P-38 dude about replacing his?

I think the Hun is a good choice for the dot filtering... at least the SEA ones because they did endure pretty rough weather... 4-6 years in a Tropical Monsoon climate outdoors nearly the entire time. Many looked liked 'gate guards' in photos by the time they were phased out.

I was asking P-38 about replacing his. I am good.Wink

BTW, PM your address and I can send you the kit decals off my CAF Ghost squadron Airacobra. I have more P-39 AM decals than I ever will need.

Nice job on the filtering, '38J!  I've used the technique on aircraft, too.  I like it because I can do it on a panel at a time, and since I don't yet use an airbrush, it's an easy way for me to pick out panels.

I'm gonna try to fix the insig.. some touch up should work..

The dot filtering, although it looked heavy when I applied the dots, actually wasn't that heavy once I applied the brush.. in person, it looks more like some mild grime...Yes

I did get it dull coated last night,,and The Don's "stach" has been scratchbuilt..Whistling

Hans old buddy, can I change my other plane?  I still don't have the paints for the Mosquito.  So I am not sure when I will be able to finish it.   I am working on a nice little old 1/48 Monogram Confederate Air Force TBF Avenger though.  I needed a change of pace.  I just started it.  I'll send up some pics s soon as I can.

I started my Swift boat this afternoon. Hull is done and I am doing some clean up and detailing to the armament. The kit .50s are crud, so some Verlinden resin ones are being fitted. That ismy only slow down point I anticipate.

The ones I sent you will handle any kind of card on the market.  Most cameras use either SD or Memory Stick Duo types. That includes all of the variants like SDHC and Memory Stick Duo Pro.  So I wouldn't worry about compatibility.

Whoah! I need to double check what type of cards I have, and I'll get something today!

Good thing, too, because I need to post some pics. The F-5 is all NMF'ed up and polished, black anti-glare has been sprayed, with the exhaust section to go tonight. Hoooooping to start in on the decals too if I'm lucky.

If you look on eBay, you will find hundreds of little card readers.  Most for under $10, and generally they are universally compatible.  Vista is relatively new OS and has very good driver support, so you should be all set.  I've been building, repairing and upgrading systems for about 20 years now so I have seen it all.  :)  And don't worry about spending more for a "name brand" reader.  They are all pretty much all the same inside and newer USB ones are literally plug and play.  I have a generic multi-card reader that is USB 2.0 and can handle like 10 different kinds of memory cards, sticks etc..  Works great and it was $6.99 with shipping.

Bondo - is that card reader compatible with Windows Vista? That's where my real issue lies - my card reader came out with my aging Sony, and is no longer supported by them (I couldn't believe that they wouldn't provide a generic windows driver update).

Definitely going to go look for that. Thanks man!
