Bondo - is that card reader compatible with Windows Vista? That's where my real issue lies - my card reader came out with my aging Sony, and is no longer supported by them (I couldn't believe that they wouldn't provide a generic windows driver update).

Definitely going to go look for that. Thanks man!

F-5 looks great, Dupes. Kodak sells a neat little memory card reader at CVS etc for abt. $ 12 that accepts all manner of input devices, kind of like Flora down at the corner...

I use it a lot (oh never mind) because it saves me from keeping track of my cables, just leave it plugged into the PC.

I know I haven't been the best about posting pics...but I need to either get a new camera, or find a new way to read my memory card in the current one. Stuck with emailing pics to myself from my phone, downloading to my laptop, editing with Photoshop, uploading to Photobucket, and then putting them on here. Not the simplest solution!

So this is one of my 2 current Monogram builds. Straight out of the box, added some tape seatbelts which you might get to see when the masks are lifted. Going with some ancient Microscale decals to model an NMF bird in the Phillippines AF. Should look pretty neat if the metalizersi work out! Down in the paint booth right now with the first coat drying.

The other build is an F-102 - pics to come when it makes a return to my bench.

Finally got back to the Zero over the weekend, putting the finishing touches on the pilot, whom I've dubbed Yoshi, and installing him in the fuselage:

I wanted to keep the AMS to a minimum, so, though I wrestled with adding a cockpit floor and side panel details, I decided not to, but to keep the kit as close to its original state as possible.  I did try to paint on some of the specific uniform details, though, like using grey for Yoshi's flying helmet's rabbit fur lining.  I will also hit him with a little thin brown wash, to pick up the facial sculpt.  But I was so eager to get him into the cockpit.

OK, so I caved on the instrument panel.  I drilled out holes to represent the instrument bezels, backed the panel with a piece of styrene, then put a drop of white acrylic into the holes.  Not superdetailed, but with the closed canopy, it'll give the impression of instrument dials (the kit is second-hand and decals lost long before I got it).

I glued up the fuselage, too, which had a really good fit, despite a little bit of a curvature to the one piece.  I'll put up a pic of that tonight.

Best regards,

Brad

Wow still cant get over all the nice work going on here, proof that Monogram kits can steal the show from those shake & bake kits.

Stikpusher I am diggin the work on your boat........ errrrr ship man. That PE really adds to the detail and really isn't all that hard to work with, that is unless you have huge fumbling fingers like I do. Keep up the good work Yes

Oh an do you mind if I swap the ones I posted with these ?

Nah, go ahead, they're yours... I just used the photo-fix program that comes with the Vista OS.. It allows you to use either the "Autofix" function, or to manually adjust lighting, contrast, tint, color saturation, and cropping.. I use the crop feature quite a bit, as it not only crops the picture, but enlarges the cropped area as well, thus allowing me to get better close-up shots..

For yours, I just used the "Autofix" and it lightened them up nicely...  If you don't have that program on your Vista OS, just send me any photos you need fixed, and I'll try and make 'em look a bit better.. Only takes a minute or so to do each one.. I can also do some cropping if you want the close-ups larger..

Hans thank you sir I have swapped the pictures .......finally. I am using Windows 7 which didn't come with much of any other software, well none that you don't have to pay extra for that is. I guess I will have to improve my photography skills or find a program that will correct them for me. I do have Paintshop Pro but it doesn't seem to correct pictures very well, its great for designing and printing decals though.

OK, I have been working on this for a few weeks, so here is all my work up to this point:

Here is the orginal kit and box, a 1970s issue of USS Ramsey, a DEG later reclassified as a FFG. Roughly 1/300 scale. I am adding ssome PE from Gold Medal Models. It is 1/350, but it works on this kit!

Construction began with the bow sonar dome. I had to add a sheet styrene shim becuase of a gap in the fit.

and I began painting the main components- Neutral Gray for Haze Gray, Gunship Gray for Deck Gray, and Black and Anti Fouling Red on the lower hull.

I also assembled most of the sub assemblies before painting and adding on PE and scratch built details. I put them in place without glue for these shots...

The kits' air search radar was the incorrect type, so I made a new one from sheet styene and tea bag mesh

And I made some modifications and added PE ladders, railings and surface search radar to the Mack (Mast/Stack) assembly

basic Mack with PE ladders

and completed modified Mack

I also removed molded on stairs and added PE vertical and inclined ladders to the superstructure

I have scribed on detail to the ASROC launcher

Hollowed out the dishes of the gun and missile fire control radars (gonna add some scratchbuilt fine details soon)

built and cleaned up the kits' SH-2 Sea Sprite

and yesterday after getting to this point put everything built so far on the painted hull for a current status shot

That's purdy! OK, remember I'm not a jet guy - I'm familiar with the effect but haven't looked into it too much. Is the striping too defined or does it really show like that? I'd be tempted to overcoat the whole thing with a thin blending coat of the main metallic colour. 2 cents

(And remember - those are Canadian pennies I'm throwing at you! Whistling)

It may be a bit to defined... but ,,, its close to the example i used. Scale Aviation modeller mag, July 2008.. tryin to find a pic from it now.

I am not sure what Hans did, but I use Paint Shop Pro Photo X3 from Corel.  It will do anything that Photoshop will, at about 1/4 the price, and it has built in filters.  One of them is an automatic one click fix for Digital Photos that automatically fixes things like too low brightness or contrast.  You can find OEM copies of the software on eBay for $20-$30 or less sometimes.

ok,, here we go.. latest update Don...

first a few pics of the overall bird after sanding the color to reveal the raised panel lines.. someone requested them..

then pics of my "distressed skin" attempt...[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:http://cs.finescale.[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

i used gloss black first, and sprayed the area, with just wisping the front edge. then applied titanium, magnesium, another dark metalic that name escapes me.. Boyd's Mango, and a purple metalic that I made from aluminum+British racing green metalic, Testors red( square bottle) and Testors Dk Blue from square bottle ).. all colors applied top to bottom/bottom to top in a stripping manner...

comments? critiques ?..

No Problem here.  The Panther isn't my best work, but it's good enough for public view I guess.  I am hoping the Mosquito will come out as well or better.

Don.. pardone'...

I am awaiting my currier to arrive with updated photographs of my HUN...

I worked on the rear skin to give it that distressed look,, a recent Scale Avaition Modeler mag had the 1/32 HUN in it,, I am "borrowing" that modelers technique..

Is that technique in order to give the 'burner area those "wrinkles"?

In the Scale Av mag,, the skin isn't "wrinkled" so to speak,, but burnt looking, but not smoked, it has the look of differant metals reacting to the heat,, it looks wrinkled.. I'll the pics up soon.. trying to work around the lurking office manager.. lol

Along with the badge, do these "made modelers" get fitted for a proper zoot-suit? Wink

I've been lurking this one gang, great work all around.

I don't care what they wear... As long as it's Armani.. (Wonder if they make flightsuits and jackets?)

But if someone upsets any of them, they might get that someone a pair of  proper-fitted cement overshoes, lol...
