I also have that pic with the belly window, Stik, and am still looking for more.

Have you seen this walkaround? Lots of good detail shots (including belly windows) here on a -3 Wildcat

She was using the vise to hold the fuselage together after regluing a seam that let go in the center.  Very old kit, and brittle plastic.  I should have known better than to let her do it but she wanted to so I couldn't say no.  You know how daughters give you THAT face when you are at risk of hurting their feelings.  If it can't be repaired, I have a few other kits.  I really wish the house hunt hadn't fallen through.  Half the problem is lack of available work space.

At least it wasn't in a spot that showed on the Avenger.  Right now I am waiting to see if some emergency repairs hold on the fuselage.  Marissa (My Daughter) accidentally crushed it putting it into my vise.

if a kid put something into a vise, I wouldn't call it "accidental" crushing.   Hmm

Ain't that the poop, when I started the P-51D they decided to put the stamp on the underside of the stabilizer, what fun to sand off. Huh?

New card reader on it's way from Ebay, so hopefully (fingers crossed) I can start posting pics again. The F-5 is about 99% done...few final touchups and she goes on the display shelf.

....dunno why ORD decided to move the -3 Wildcat inside the airport secure zone.Sad

Used to be accessible without needing to pass through security.

well with computer flight simulators giving bad guys at home the ability to learn to fly one... if it can be seized, restored airworthy and armed it could create havoc over the air traffic corrdors of the area... at least that is what someone at Homeland Security probably thought to order the move...Hmm

Or maybe some high TSA muckeymuck wanted to look at it without leaving the secure area...

Would have been nice if a raised platform had been included in the display.

Not possible to snap photos of the Wildcat topside without very long arms.....

P38, Baron, Stik, thanks.  Not sure what I'll do with wheel wells, elevators, belly windows, canopy, etc. yet.  S'pose I should try to go all out as I'm trying to honor Joe Foss and his #53 since he was one of my real heroes.

I also have that pic with the belly window, Stik, and am still looking for more.

The Wildcat has no pit, only a pilot figure, so am scratch-building one.  Ground off the square headrest and replaced with round, and am building the rest with black and white styrene.  Plan to use an Eduard color PE set (for Tamiya).

I dont know how dead set you are for accuracy on your F4F cockpit, but the Wildcat did not have a solid floor. It had troughs for the pilots feet and gaps to teh die where the pilot could look down thru the windows in the bottom of the fueslage

the window is visible behind to the right of the mechanics in the photo below

Nice job, Ken!  I had to do the same thing for the F6F, and then I was able to use Mike Grant's instrument decals for the dials and panels.  Are you going to include any of the detail visible in the wheel wells, too?

Best regards,

Brad

Probably Pacific Theater.  I have had a minor setback.  While attempting to mount the ball turret in the fuselage for a test fitting, the barrel of the machine gun snapped off, and I'm still trying to find it..  lol

I am not having the best of luck with kits this week.

Nice start, SH!  What markings are you going to use, eg, Pacific or North Atlantic?

You know, when I was getting back into the hobby, this was one of the first kits I tracked down, just for that great figure of the crewman running across the deck to mount up for his flight.

Are you retaining the operationg features, too?  I had to glue the wings in place on a couple I built, because I was afraid of breaking them in transport to the club meeting.

Best regards,

Brad

Heh, I did the same thing with one of mine, but I had some small-diameter brass tubing that stood in quite nicely as a replacement.

With the open crew hatch on the starboard side, and an open center canopy section, I get nervous every time I have to pick it up Big Smile

That was awesome.   The F100 has always been one of my favorites.  It just had that bada$$ look to it.  I wonder if they let him take the stick for a while.  I may not agree with the politicians who sent us into Vietnam, but I have absolutely nothing BUT respect for the men and women who fought there.  And I think it's a real commentary on the those politicians when you look at the deplorable way those same men and women were treated when they got home.  I now know what paint job the F100 sitting in my stash will get.  I snagged the video so I can use it as a reference.
