I am awaiting my currier to arrive with updated photographs of my HUN...

I worked on the rear skin to give it that distressed look,, a recent Scale Avaition Modeler mag had the 1/32 HUN in it,, I am "borrowing" that modelers technique..

Along with the badge, do these "made modelers" get fitted for a proper zoot-suit? Wink

I've been lurking this one gang, great work all around.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

Oh yeah.. One more thing.. I wanna post the completed builds in the appropriate forums, if y'all are ok with that (or you can do it yourself)... I just wanna make sure the folks who didn't sign up or even venture in here see the outstanding work y'all are doing with these classics...

Thanks for the help Hans.

Mike

No sweat, Mike...  Sorry I wasn't more tiimely..

Bondoman, Satch... Congrats... You're made now.. All you made guys gotta remember to be ready to whack anyone who trashes a Monogram kit, now that you know that they're great its in the hands of someone like yourselves, someone that doesn't rely on the manufacturer to do everything except glue the damn things together...

Youse guys also know that a $50-100.00 kit doesn't make you a better modeler... The only thing that makes you a better modeler is what y'all did and are doing here, building kits from the days when it took a MODELER to make a winner, and not a fat wallet..

Now youse clowns, get back to work... Does double for you mugs dat're still at the gate...

Satch_ip that is one fine pair of Navy Birds man YesYes I don't know why they weren't icons of the Navy war birds of WWII after watching Enterprise Battle 360 on the History Channel.

Don Hans von Hammer I wish to show my respect and humbly present you with finished pictures of the 1/48 Monogram F-15A Streak Eagle. I do hope it receives your approval.

I have to say this model as all NMF builds are really hard to photograph, the best pictures I got were in natural light.

For the weathering I tried water color washes and pastels, didnt like the effect at all, so then I tried Talon powders. They worked great ! I used aluminum, steel, and a custom mix that Garald  sent me, that custom mix by the way worked the best and I hope he can remember what he used to make it, because I plan to order more. I am quite pleased with this build and I really need to thank Gamera for the decals he sent me for it.

First the real Streak Eagle

Now my attempt and the model

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/NMF%20Group%20build%20II/Revell%20F-15%20Streak%20Eagle/45F-15StreakEagle.jpg

Not perfect but I came close I think. Now I am half made ??

Yer either made or you ain't... Cool

Now let's see about those pictures.. They were really dark on my screen, so I'm gonna try this:

Hopefully that helped a bit...

If you want to, you can take those, V-man.. That is, if they turned out better than yours.. If you do copy them, lemme know when you're done, and I'll delete mine...

I got so excited about the pics, I forgot to tell everyone what I did. I used Krylon Catalina Mist spray for the underside and Testors dark green and OD green in the square bottles. For the RLM02 interior I'm using flat grey. I also built up the sides of the cockpit middle with thin balsa from a broken glider. Like I said, old school. Next up is some Q-tip mottling, paint the cockpit, put it together, and some weathering.

With all due respect, that might be a good thing. It means we're all hard at work instead of posting.

Good answer..Wink

In the meantime, and since Aaron threatened everyone with no more Bin Laden threads in Odds & Ends, I'll put mine here: Seems to me that ,since OBL was buried at sea, he's getting 72 Sturgeons... Ba-DUM! *Tish*

Jeez, I crack myself up...

Nav, you gotta have your pictures hosted at an on-line hosting site, like photobucket or image shack. Once that's accomplished, open your pics and left-click on the picture's thumbnail.  Once it's enlarged to it's full size, then right-click on the photo and a box will open. Select "Properties".  Another box will open, then highlight by left-clicking and dragging, and then select "copy" by right-clicking. Then select "OK".

Then, open a reply window here, and click on the little filmstrip icon at the top of the window, then paste the URL you copied into the box that reads "Insert Media". Then click on "Insert".  Your picture should then appear in the reply window..

EDIT: Never mind.. Looks like you got it fingered out...

Don Hammerlone, I've come to pay my respects.  Two Navy birds fell off the back of the truck and I've come to bring you a little taste.

I present to you the Curtis SB2C Helldiver, unknown Marine unit.

And the Grumman F6F-3N Hellcat, VMF(N) 534, Orate Field, Guam September 1944.

So Don, do I get my bones?

Chris - neat '100. Bringing it tomorrow?

Finally getting some work done on my birds for this GB - cracked into an F-5 a few days ago, flying through the build so far. Only major issue is the big seam between the upper and lower fuselage halves. Other than that, it's a sweet fitting kit.

Once I figure out how to get some pics from my phone to my laptop to photobucket to here in a timely manner, I'll be sure to post some!

That's a fine looking Hun, P38! Back the old camera out a little so we can see the whole bird. When you first applied the camo w/o masks, I was wondering...but now I see your method. Very nice.

Here's my Tres Amigos, and these were a lot of fun to build.

Boeing F4B-4:

Curtiss F11C-2 Goshawk:

Cuirtiss P6-E Hawk:

Kit decals, square bottle paint, but I did use liquid cement.

And this silly looking thing:

Thank you Don Hammerloni for making me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Don Hammerloni... I have proof of progress one more time.. pleasa accpeta my pics...

Ok,, camo is done, and I've begun sanduing the top coats to reveal the preshading underneath..

I tried to follow FSM's article 2 mags ago, how to weather raised panel lines. The first few pics are the completed camo.. then the progression to the sanded finish, I used 1000grit..

Overall, I like how it worked,, my advice, it works the best on single color applications.. the top colors with each camo color sprayed over each other... the black line coloring didn;t come thru... but the underlying camo color did..

Really cool build, Vetteman!  The contrasting panels and materials really add a lot of interest to the plane.  Thanks for showing the finished product.  Looks like the Streak Eagle is getting ready to make it's first VSTOL take off; yet another record to set!

Satch, you are really making those old warbirds shine! Great job; looking forward to your finished works.  My Monograms with folding wings never looked anywhere that good.....of course, that was when I first built them a hundred years ago!

Dunno what possible use I'd have for 14 EMPTY Monogram kit boxes... Especially White Box kits.. I can get that many on my own in a month, and not have to pay 14.00 in shipping lol...

Ok.. I'm up and running (as far as the War Room computer goes) finally, and have updated the front page... At least I THINK I did... Sound off at me (via back-channel, please) if I missed you or mis-read your progress (gimme a page number while you're at it..This thread is getting some friggin' DEPTH)...

Haven't got the workbench set yet, so nothing new to add to my progress (other than two of my grandkids got two of my three remaining Monogram P-38 kits outta me for helping me move, the little blackmailers..)  Made 'em take the same kits though, since that's the easiest way to prove to 'em that I didn't get one a "more-better" kit than the other one...

Anyway, hoping to break out the supplies and get the bench mission-capable by the end of the weekend, and started getting some glue on styrene.. Both the Spitfire and the Stuka took damage during the move, but I'm gonna hold off on repairing them until I get shelving up... I'll get back to the P-40 as my first order of business...  That, and I gotta go get two more P-38s... Got 40% off coupons ya know...

P38jl the Streak Eagle was used to set a number of time to climb records. A lot was left off of her as was paint to save weight. They also found at speed markings and what little paint was on her was burned off including the graphics on the nose and tail. The nose art was reapplied for photo ops but the graphics on the tail werent replaced until she was painted  gray for display.

Thank you for the complement.

Both are painted US Navy Non Specular Sea Blue over Intermediate Blue over White.  Tamiya for the blues and some MM and Valejo for the white.
