Yes it does have a brownish look to it. Why not paint the nose black then once that is dry for at leat 24 hrs apply a tint of dark brown or burnt umber over the black.

Hey guys. Great builds so far. I love the pics of the B-25 in flight.....very cool!

I have a quick ??? for those in the know. I have been having serious missle issues with my F-105 WW. I have painted/stripped/and painted again trying to get it to look right (whole other story)....lets just say some great advised I received from Hans a long way back worked better. Lets just say that a spray can of Gloss white bought at HD by Krylon covered better and more even than my MORE expensive rattle can of Tamiya!!!!No

Anyway I am trying to decide on the colors for my AGM-78. I have seen all white with the approp. stripes. To the usual Black nose and white. Then I happen on this pic:

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Now I may partially color blind (or at least I feel that way sometimes) but that nose looks dark brown!!! Anyone have any ideas? Any advise is greatly appreciated. The WW is 99.9% done and I should have some pics by the end of the day!!!

Owl, I could have helped you out with those Eagle-Nose decals... I have a spare set of B-25J decals, since I built mine as a Marine PBJ-1J... Don't be afraid to ask next time, ok?

That said, you really came through on it in spite of the problems you had, and that's a good bit of modeling you got there... And I especially like the last two photos... If you had a "prop blur" going on, it would've resulted in a double-take on my part.. I too am a big fan of Krylon vs. "Hobby" brands of rattle can paint. Their metallics are designed to take some beating up... Wouldn't sweat the foil.. The only time you see any highly-polished B-25s are at airshows... Operational ones got beat up pretty quickly,  from both the climates they operated in and from the action at low-level..
Nice work..

Thanks Hammer. I didnt know you so generous to boot!

I wish I had the prop-blur too, but I only have the software that came with my camera. Otherwise all I'd have is Paint!

Terrific js Beer both subjects look incredible.  I didn't realize the canopy on the Devastator was that "greenhousey" and you did it great.

That is one sweet F100.  I can never get that annoying seam between the upper and lower fuselage halves to come out that smooth.  And the wing fences always fall off of mine. lol.  I just saw the real thing at the Air Force Museum today.  Nice bird.

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

I used MM Jet exhaust color, and Tamiya clear blue over it.  If I would do it again, I'd thin the Jet Exhaust down a lot more for a thinner coat before the clear blue streaks.

Excellent...thanks for posting the rear shots...I am going to try using Alclad shades on mine...yours came out great.

This is it - I"M MADE!!!!! (I think . . . .)

As promised, below is the Monogram 1/48 F-100D started a couple of months back.  Built OOB, except for the decals which were unable to be utilized due to age.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0][View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

Also, as a bonus to make up for being a little late, I have also included a 1/48 TBD-1 Devastator.  It was also done OOB, with the exception of the black and red bands which were painted on.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

Also[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

Does this mean I know have earned the right to wear the Monogram Mafia GB badge in my signature?

THanks Don Hammer!

Doubt I'll be getting a TV show anytime soon though..

Right now, 99% of my job is tracking these clowns via the internet, doing some Sneaky-Pete stuff, but I'll be in the field in a few more months, once my hip is totally fixed...  So.. Jump Bail, you get Hammered...

Surprise  Indifferent

Now, I'm working the nimble little A6M5 Zeke, so far nothing to photograph.. I've dropped the flaps and added the internal ribbing in there as well as the ribbing in the cockpit area of the fuselage, and have started to work on the cockpit floor and throttle quadrant, along with the other greeblies that go in there..

Nice work..

That Wildcat 'pit is outstanding, KBuzz!.. Little more in the way of commercial parts than I would do, but that's just me, lol.. At any rate, seeing white plastic is a good thing on these kits! And if you got one, the Monogram TBD pilot figure, painted with a goatee (Foss wore a goatee at the 'Canal) added, is a dead-ringer for (then) Captain Joe Foss...

Vetteman, I got your P-51 progress updated, too..

Thanks.  Yup, the pilot's history - no more room in that pit.   Anyway, Joe Foss wouldn't want just any old pilot  messing with his Wildcat.  Whistling

@Ken--Nice work on that office!  Your Wildcat is coming along nicely.  But have you abandoned the pilot altogether?  Big Smile

@Owl--Wow!  I love your finish, and thanks for demo'ing using Krylon's aluminum, I think I may try it myself.  I also love your in-flight photos, what a great finish!

Best regards,

Brad

The Navigator

Great looking Mitchell Owl. How did you do the different panel shades with the krylon?

well, the Krylon really only gave me one color (except on the gun nose, that's krylon too, but applied a bit to heavily! oops). The Krylon gave the plane is main NMF color, then once it cured, the Krylon was very nice to mask over and didn't peel or tarnish. The other colors were MM Enamel Chrome-Silver on the wing panels, and MM Acrylic Steel for the darker NMF shades

I happily present to you, my finished B-25 Mitchell!  The NMF was achieved with Krylon Matt Aluminum, with other panels masked and painted to produce a varied appearance. The decals were all sourced from the spares box. I think I prefer foil over paint however, because I feel foil gives me more control over the finish.

Uh-oh, I might be in the wrong place!  Norwegian farmers in my background.  Indifferent   Finally getting back to the bench after cataract surgery on both peepers (which, by the way, was a no pain, no brainer - a simple quick procedure I'd recommend to anyone, assuming you have a competent surgeon).  Been wearing glasses for over 40 yrs, and tossed them after getting my left eye back to 20/20.  Big Smile

Back to the topic:  I've got the pit for the Wildcat underway.  Had to scratch a framework as shown in the first photo.  The only cockpit feature in the original kit was a pilot that fit into the aft bulkhead.

DSC01536.jpg

Opened the floor for the downward window view. Added Eduard zoom PE for the instrument panel and side consoles.  A touch of Future on the instruments.

DSC01585.jpg

The seat is True Details for a Hellcat, but I decided that's close enough - they're both Cats, after all.  Seat belts are Eduard.  Here, the pit is fit to the lower middle wing panel.

DSC01590.jpg

Got some touching up to do yet, then I'll get busy on the big pieces.

yeah, her nono came in 1904 and worked coal mines, steel mill until he bought a grocery in Buffalo, sent for the wife and first kid after 5 years.

They are from the eastern part of It'ly, now called Molise and they all spoke Croatian, Italian as a second language.

Funny how close we all are to immigrants, wish we were kinder to those more recent.

But I'm not the Boss, who btw has been absent for a couple. No doubt forming a basketball team among his ex-wives and deciding who to bench....

43 wannabees, six made. Poor excuse for a Omerta.

I am gonna have to say it...

"Mike, come over here. You never know when you are gonna have to cook for a couple of dozen guys."

I'm going to have to bring in the muscle from the village. (These guys are actually all related to me)...

I'm still making my bones, Signore Bondoni! Big Smile  I have the canopy attached to the Zero and a couple coats of IJN dark green on, photos will be forthcoming.  The salt technique was a bit of a wash this time around, so chipping will be done some other way.

And my people-well, some of my people-came from Sorrento, outside Naples, and from Grossotto, in the Tirol.  They came over a little before il Duce took over, about 25 years before.  In their case, they were all starving in the Old Country, even the Northerners, who were (and still are) bread bakers.  So they came here and made a new life.  (My German ancestors were here before that).
