Hinksy

Andy Deafpanzer and I are also looking into putting the feelers out for a Panzer III 'all variants' GB or something similar to be started soon.

Oh and I was thinking of that for my next GB, because it hasn't been done. LOL I might be willing to be a happy participant though. Big Smile

Bob, excellent second application of camo. I'd definitely call it a go. Yes Beer

It's raining here in Mn. so you'll have to work inside, say at the model bench.Lightning

Hey all.....thanks again for the encouraging words regarding the camo.  I'm looking forward to giving it a 'buff' coat and some weathering.

Tracks are done and painted....kinda.  I was going to mix some Tamiya NATO Black & Metallic Grey, but only had a drop of NATO Black.  Ended up with subbing some Semi-Gloss Black-I think a black oil wash will give me the color I'm after....then some 'dirt' pastels after should even things out.

I had attached the road wheels & idler wheels with rubber cement but for some reason the idler wheels didn't want to come out and the pins stayed in.....so I ended up gluing them on this afternoon.

Hoping to paint the road wheels this evening during the NASCAR race or tomorrow.  Busy day in the yard and I'm not sure how active I want to be this pm.

I'll come back and post some pics after Photobucket finishes...

Tracks look good Bob, but I might have gone with a bit of sag between the 1st and 2nd rollers.

Thanks Eric.....and I agree regarding the sag (or lack of it) between the 1st & 2nd rollers.  Made the mistake of working on the tracks at night.....I was tired....just wanted to get it done.  The schurzen will hide it this time....next time I'll plan a little better.  This is my first experience with DML's Magic Tracks-I was hoping that they would 'click' together...they didn't....however, the Testor's cement provided enough bond & flexibility (and time) to get close.

Wow Nate the Marder looks like the Tamiya box art, really "COOOOOOOL" congrats on a great build the winter whitewash effect really came out well.

Rob that little Czech 47mm looks like an evil little devil, I thought it was a 105 'till I noticed the paint bottle under it.

Bob the panzer jager is coming along great, the subdued effect on the camo paid off. Looking forward to seeing the weathering finished.

Everybody keep up the good work and I hope to visit soon.

Terry.

Looks good Rob , but i agree with Eric .(sorry guys , i meant Bob Embarrassed)

Ok then . I made some corrections on the the stand for the gun mount . I took a short cut and kept some of the original kit parts , then scratch built the new details with Evergreen styrene .

I forgot to take a picture of the original "table" type gun mount stand that was in the kit. here's a picture of it from the instructions. It has six legs for support.

And here are some pictures of the kit part after i hacked it up and rebuilt it . Looks like it is supported by the two angled "C" channel beams. I left 2 of the kit legs on to aid in the attachment . I dont think they will be seen when the top of the hull is in place.

Here's the gun and mount in place. I replaced the bulky kit sighting scope with a scratch built one .

Hello All,

Everyone's builds look awesome, really a lot of impressive work being done or has been done.

I however at this time have not even started my Stug IV and I do not see when I wil be able to really get into it so at this point I am withdrawing from the build and I'll start the Stug another day.

Keep up the great work everyone.

Cheers,

Thom

Sorry to hear it Thom, but I understand how life intervenes sometimes.

Okay, i got some rod styrene and some flat pieces and I'll see if i can scratch as Rob recommended. Too tired today, maybe tomorrow.

Bob. How did you do your magic tracks? They look fine. I recall Cookie Sewell saying they snap together, which we all know they don't.

Carl, whew, lots of scratching going on.

Too bad Thom ...... hope you hang around the G.B. and give us your input still .

Eric .........this thing needs help . If i wasnt so cheap i'd stick it back in the box and order one of these made by DML or Trumpeter , who ever makes it .But alas i have an entire stash of older kits and i cant replace them all so its off to scratch building and all of its insanity !

Good you were able to pick up some styrene rod and such , those cleaning rods should be easy to reproduce .... i hope .

Thanks Terry.Big Smile

Bob: The panzerjager is really coming along nicely. I like the hard edged camo you've achieved. I've yet to try one of those schemes.

Shellback: really nice scratch-building you've done on your 234.

Rob: Excellent tutorial on your weathering process.......very well done.

I haven't done anything else on my Marder this week, but after meeting with Thom last night, I think I'm going to start on a base to display it on. Something suitably cold looking......

Carl-nice work-I'm always impressed when someone goes the extra step with some scratch building.

Nate-Thanks....Silly Putty is your friend with hard edged schemes

Eric-I heard no 'click'.....so.....

1. I made a straight edge from Legos and put a length of 3M blue tape-sticky side up-against the bottom edges of the Legos. 2. Used tweezers to attach the tracks (counting off in groups of 10-instructions called out for 97....and they were wrong), 3. then some Testor's Liquid cement applied liberally.  4.Let sit for 15-20 min (I forget), remove the tape & tracks...  5. turn over and gently peal the tape away by starting at the end and 'rolling' it up.  Tracks stuck together (for the most part) and still had enough flex in them to be formed around the various wheels.  At this point you could still add/remove a link or two without difficulty. 6.Let dry overnight and then pull all the road wheels off (stuck on with rubber cement prior). Still fragile but if they come apart, a stronger cement can be used.

My mistake wasn't following the order of the instructions and building and attaching the wheels & tracks prior to attaching the upper hull...it would have been a bit easier that way.  Oh well, live and learn, right?

Hey guys, Glad you liked the chipping technique.  I threw away many old brushes and thought there had to be some use for them.

CARL - Very NICE scratchbuilding!!  Looks great!! Really enjoy watching someone go the extra step and do it from scratch especially when it is so well done.  Want more please.

BOB - Tracks are looking great.  Magic tracks are my favorite to work with, after a little practice they become easy to do.  You have an excellent kit to practice on because if you do not like something it can just be covered up with the skirts.  I do the tracks almost the same as you the difference is I use a flat chisel blade to lift them off of the tape that way I do not roll or possibly break the tracks apart.  The other thing is I have all of my road wheels glued in place leaving just the idler and sprocket loose in order to get the tracks on and off.  Last, I leave my tracks in two sections, most leave them in one.  A top half that incorporates the sprocket and a bottom that incorporates the idler.  That leaves me two glue points on final assembly but also provides me a way to slide the tracks in place.  Doing it that way allowes you to have the model completly built if you like and it would not matter.  I do think she is coming along very NICE and cant wait to see more.

Rob-thanks for the tips.  I especially think that leaving them in two sections would solve the problem of not joining the upper & lower hull/chassis together for painting.  I'll be using your advise next time.

BOB - Glad I could helpBig Smile

Did some work on the casermate. Painted, decals and sprayed with dull coat.  Waiting for it to dry in order to weather some of the interior so that I can get this thing togther.

Also applied the cross on the rear of the vehicle and started the wiring on the radio.

Not the best picture but I'll post a better one with more progress.

Ooooh, Panzerwaffe, that looks sweeet!

Sorry for my absence...got a bit busy at work, and my laptop has gone all wonky on my when it comes to web browsers. After a Firefox updated, kept getting crashes - rolled it back, and things are a BIT better...maybe it's time for a new one.

Hope to get caught up on everyone's builds, then get tackling my own!

Well I scratched my cleaning rods/holder. I think it looks okay. I believe it will work for my needs. I need to do a little cleanup and I'll post pictures after. Then I have to do those tracks. Sad

Hey EVERYONE,  Thanks for the great feedback so far! Big Smile

DUPES - Bad to here of your computer problems but glad to have you back.  Look forward to your build.

TM - Good to hear you have your rods togther, will be waiting to see them.  Thanks for pointing out the color on the rear light on my PZJager I, I am going to correct that right now.  Dont know why I did that? Dunce

Finished with the weathering on the interior, as soon as i correct the rear light will start gluing things togther.  After that will have just the tools to do and final weathering of the whole vehicle.  Here is the interior.

Look forward to everyones next updates.

Here's my crappy photos. As you can see, I can thread the cable thru, just barely. Before I couldn't and broke the piece in every corner. Now there are no rivets and end points, but at least I get my cables.

Nope, not copper and is quite flexible. Perhaps too much in this case.
