Happy Easter!

I've been plugging away at my Marder III build, and have made enough progress for an update. After painting the whole thing Tamiya German gray, I applied MiG's filter for gray vehicles which has a slight bluish tint to it. Next, I applied a dark wash to the lower hull and roadwheels. I painted the Friuls with a 50/50 mixture of Tamiya flat black, and flat brown. I also smeared the hull bottom and sides with MiG's dried mud mixed with alcohol. I replaced the kit decals with Archer transfers. Finally, I applied Tamiya's weathering powder white to come up with a worn winter white-wash.

Somehow, I managed to break the bar that goes across the gun mount. I will wait until last to glue that back together. Still have a bunch of detail painting left to do on the vehicle, and figures, but it's getting close to the end for this one. Comments welcome. Thanks for looking!

Nate

That was suggested to me Carl. I made a mess trying to drill holes and they broke through. Of all the gallery shots in forums, nobody used the cables.

Love the pin marks on the FRONT of the poles. What were they thinking? Like I said, I'm in the process of ad-libbing these pieces.

Wonderful placement for the pin marks  . Bang Head What is this, an Italeri kit ? Stick out tongue

I cant make out what went wrong with the rods and i havent dug thru my junk parts yet .

Could you substitute them with styrene rod ?

I love the streaking effect you've achieved on the side armor. I've got to try that on a future build!

I threw this one in, just so you can get an idea, of where I'm at. The upper armor has a coat of clear finish, that's why it looks sort of glossy, I can't wait to start the wash on it:

I did a lighter wash on a few items last night, including the wood on the platform. This morning, I added some lighter "mud" to the front of the hull (still wet) I know the track sections, for upper protection, look too "metallic" I'm hoping it will tone down, with some pastel chalk, when applied.

I also did a very light wash, on the main gun assembly. I just wanted to get some dirt, in the corners, before more detailing. Don't mind my big hand Indifferent

Tonight, I will start the wood grain, darker wash:

I feel your pain Carl. I do have some grass in the front. On that one side we planted vinca minor. It was a lot of work and beautiful when it bloomed, but the clover just continued to choke it off. We finally pulled it all out and started over again. I spray the area once a week with roundup and that helps out a lot, but that is an expensive alternative too. The yard is the only thing I hate about my home and would someday like a smaller home and lot. Good luck on your project.

Bob, i understand about camo jobs. It seems like I respray on every vehicle that I ever painted it on. On my Panther, I redid it 3 times! I'm pretty picky about it on my tanks and have never been 100% satisfied.

Eric (taps)-nice work on the Emil-love the wood effect.  And I agree with Eric regarding the streaking-looks great.

Eric (tigerman)-your little project is making my back hurt just reading your post.

Well, I went and re-primed the Jagdpanzer earlier today-I just wasn't happy with the camo scheme, even after some additional work.  Will be out of town until late Sunday so hopefully I can chip away at a re-paint next week.  Will post pics once I have the new scheme on.

Eric ....................Got a tractor i hope . What are you building ?

Just me, a shovel and a wheel-barrow. Not an over-nighter job.

I'm trying to fill in some dead space on the side of my house. There are some trees and mostly barkdust. Moss and weeds are a problem there. I added rock a couple years back and it helped. Now I'm adding a lot more, but not enough in my eyes. Wifey won't let me fill the whole side like I'd want to.

I'll try to get a pic of the pieces, but i think I'm going to cut the wire into pieces and kind of fake it.

Nice streaking effect Eric on the Sturm.

LOTTTTTS of wheel barrow-ling ! I was asking because my project that will involve tons of gravel is going to be building a retaining wall with blocks , 100 ft long , if it ever dries out enough . i'll be using a wheel barrow also ...........

I managed to get some building done on the 234-4 in between baby setting the pup but no pictursyet .

 bobbaily:

Thanks Shellback.

The red primer is Krylon spray can.  Cheap & easy.

Actually, they aren't Legos-they are Megablocks-cheap knock-offs.  Terrible fit.  I need to 'borrow' some of my son's real Legos and build some fixtures......Angel

Bob is it the krylon Primer ruddy brown ? Thats the one i found yesterday .

Yepper....that's it.

One little thing I do to my spray cans is to put them in a sandwich back and then put them in a large cup/glass (Big Gulp size) of warm to hot (but not too hot-I had cans 'bulge out' on me before) water.  I seem to get a better flow of paint.....but your mileage may vary....

I might get back to serious building next week. I need to get the tracks completed before I paint. I've been in limbo for more then a month. Got to get up off the a%$. Too much yard stuff calling right now and we have a week of good weather. 6 tons of rock to distribute.

Hey Rob,

I usually get Mr Surfacer 500 from Sprue Bothers or Great Models. At the moment, both are out of stock. I also thin it with Mr Color Thinner.

PS...I like the chipping technique...how'd you do it?

Thanks everyone.

TIGERMAN - Sorry, have searched the spare parts and have found no cleaning rods.  Did not mean to get your hopes up Sad  They should not be to difficult to scratch.  Use some styrene rod and make the brackets from styrene flat strip.

TAPS88 - The lower hull is fabulous just as the top!  I see everyone often use Mr. Surface, myself never used it, but you have convinced me too give it a try.  Where do you find Mr. Surface?  I have never noticed it at the store.

BOB - That is an awesome pattern and it will make a great palette for weathering.  I agree with Taps88 on using the Buff.

TERRY - I am still stunned with the amount of detail you did on such a small scale! Yes

Will have to move one of the ammo boxes on the interior of the PZJ before mounting the gun.  Have dry fitted the mount and it partly covers the top of the box.  The box would never be able to open so it must move over a little.  Not to excited about moving the interior around but thats how it is.  Here is a shot of the problem.

Work on the gun will begin as soon as this problem is fixed.

Thanks all.

Eric-I've not tried buff yet.  However, I have thinned out the base coat (in this case yellow) and used that to blend the colors together.  I'll give the buff a try this time.  I'm also going to go thru my stack of FSM's and pick one or two good weathering articles.  I can always use a little help.

Made some progress between yesterday and today:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bobbaily/Jagdpanzer010.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bobbaily/Jagdpanzer011.jpg

I'm thinking that I should be able to blend the camo during the weathering process.  Worst case is that I break out the flat white and go with a winter camo scheme!

Still a lot to do-paint road wheels, tools, assemble the tracks....but it's coming together....slowly but surely.

Hey Rob,

You can also spray Tamiya Buff, at a distance, with an airbrush, to tone down the camo, if you like. Keep the model a good bit away and just give it a "dusty" covering, then do the wash. Test on a piece of white paper first, to get the feeling for the covereage.

I like your camo pattern and would hate to see it covered by a winter scheme.

Keep up the good work!

Eric,

I think once you get going on the tracks, it will get easier.

Remember....the first step to succeed, is to try!

BTW: The cookout was pretty good, we did manage to dodge raindrops and even had a bonfire. The wind here in Northern Ohio has just been fast and steady. Let me just say, we had no problems keeping it lit Stick out tongue
