Panzerjager GB (March 1st - June 30th, 2011)

Thanks for explaining your situation Eric . I understand how loosing the security of having your job can take a toll on enjoying life .My wife and I went thru that back in the mid eighties .I dont have any great sugestions on how to cope with the stress and sleepless nights ..............just hang in their Eric .

Eric-I feel your pain.  I've been thru three plant closings and the layoffs that always came before the final event.  And I could not get motivated during my most recent 'unplanned sabbatical'....built nothing during seven months of 'free time'....

At the end of the day, there is nothing to change what may or may not happen....worrying about something that you can't control won't change a thing....and I know...easier said than done.  My faith has helped me greatly....however, that type of discussion is discouraged here in the forum.

It happened. I'm now unemployed! Must admit that I'm stunned. I really thought I would survive this, but they basically eliminated everyone in my position. Wow. Just don't know what to do now but exhale. Whewwwwww.

I'll try to get some building done, but probably won't resume until tomorrow.

How long were you in that position (if I remember correctly, it's been quite a while)?

Eric, Sorry to hear about this.  It is still happeneing everywhere.  A friend of mine was laid off last week.  I really hope everything works out for you. 

It is a good thing you have a good stash... that's what I have been trying to tell my wife that I need more to last for my entire life.

Alllllllrighty. I decided not to start priming last night - wanted to give myself a few more hours to mull over exactly how much of this guy I want permanently glued, versus doing in subassemblies. It would certainly make doing the interior and track application easier, but hiding glue marks etc. in my paint job might not be worth the trouble.

So, here's where she stands:

If the inside of the crew compartment looks a bit bare, it's because the majority of the crew equipment (anything that isn't mostly panzer gray) hasn't been attached yet. Seen here:

And a top-down into the crew compartment. This is another reason I'm considering leaving the top half off - all of those slats are supposed to be wood. With a bit more time, I would have dremeled (is that a verb?) them off and replaced them with wood...in this case I'll have to paint them to look like wood instead.

As far as figures - I had considered this fella:

But thought afterwards that he might be too late-war. Thinking that the two dudes in this pack with the binoculars might be more appropriate:

If any of you have any input as to the accuracy of those figs, let me know! Both vehicles operated with Panzerjager-Abteilung 521, which I think would be classifed as "sturmartillerie".

If you guys see anything about the build I'm missing, let me know as well!

Oh, and as far as the barrel - I threw together the plastic one (mostly to avoid having to buy another AM one for the second build) to see how it came out...looks decent to me. Considering adding a muzzle bag after seeing the photos at this site here.

That is really coming along well. There is a TON of detail in that crew compartment. I can understand your dillema regarding painting.

That gun is CRAZY. What was it? A 128? Those three recoil piston things on the top really show how much of a punch this puppy packed. And that running gear! Whoa!

I could go on and on. All I can say is that this thing is a beast and I'm digging it!

By the way, I'd be inclined to say that those two figs would be good. They seem generic enough. Of course, I'm no expert on German uniforms so maybe someone with better info will chime in to confirm or contradict me.

I was surprised myself at how well the detail popped on this old kit with some carefull painting .

Lots of detail on the kit of yours ! A wood color floor will look really great . That could be a pain in rear to paint though . Keep the pictures coming ! I'm not real savvy on the figures , for me if they are WW II German then close enough . but you will have to consider if you want to put up with the accuracy people if they arent correct , right ? Me ? I mostly go for "close enough" .

I wanted to add a little interest to to the paint scheme . My idea was that the 75mm pak 40 was painted Panzer gray and intended for use on a wheeled carriage . (see below picture). Instead it was mounted on this chasis at the last minute due to a shortage of pak 40's and only the front of the shield and forward barrel were painted in camo .

Dupes-as always, great work from you.  Looking forward to seeing it with some paint.

Hey guys ! Rained today so i finished up the interior and suspension .Next to wprk on is the exterior equipment (shovels , fuel cans .......etc)

The exterior is rocking Carl. 

Got a little done on the tracks today, hopefully finish them up tomorrow.
