Hey rich, Ive got a 32nd scale F-5E tiger i was going to do in RNZAF markings, and i kept looking at the RNZAF aircraft through history and im thinking of doing a wild paint scheme on it. Possibly a tigermeet aircraft in RNZAF style. or paint it up as a spotted kiwi. whatever i do with it the only markings will be RNZAF roundels and a serial number.

One thing im seriously thinking about doing is putting a giant 75sqn logo on the belly.

Green tiki, yellow hammers, red and yellow diamonds.

In the rules you say 50% of the markings should be custom. does one big marking that has more surface area than all the standard markings combined count as more than 50%?

Owl.  That is one of the coolest looking P40s I have ever seen!  Great job!

Sharp work Owl!

Ran out of yellow paint, hopefully will be able to pick some up this weekend and clean up the overspray on the bottom of the Bf109 soonish.

Thanks guys. I really like how the Hawk is coming out too. It's very sharp!

I've gotten the main assemblies put together on the Warthog. With all the raised detail on this plane, I have to take care not to ruin it when sanding seams. A fair amount of putty was required, too. That's the red stuff you see.

That is coming out soooo sweet.  The simple Yellow and Black really make it stand out!  Great work!

Nice Owl !!Yes is that the Blackhawks symbol ?

Thanks p38! Its actually the Iowa Hawkeyes logo. My sister and her husband are big Hawk fans, so this is gonna be their anniversary present. This Football season will be interesting in the family, because the Nebraska Huskers joined the Big 10 (Iowa's conference) so our teams are now big rivals!  Propeller

I let the Yellow cure for a few days to avoid the tape peeling it up. Here is my "Wild Wings" design. I present to you, the "Hawkeye Warhawk!"

 Scorpiomikey:

Hey owl, did your A-10 come with teeth? like the warthog mouth? Im looking for some teeth for my bearcat and the sharkmouth decal ive got wont suffice.

the Hog didnt come with mouth decals. Im sourcing them from my spares.  What are you looking for?

Just looking for the mouth decals for my bearcat, something a little more like a bear than a sharkmouth, i can order them offline but it seems a bit of a waste ordering a whole decal sheet just for 2 decals.

More work on my two kits:

The Warhawk has been masked (masking that canopy took a good half hour, sheesh!) and the first couple of colors are on. The cream color also doubled as a primer coat for the yellow.  I have to say, however, that the Testors rattle cans have VERY good coverage. Even with glossy yellow--Im quite impressed.

The cockpit is all painted up for the Warthog...and I wonder why I need glasses. Here is one factor in my bad eyesight I'm sure! LOL

I think I might have a spare set of decals from a 1/32 P-40 Revell kit.  It would be large, but hey, that's even more wild. lol

The P40 does go together pretty well, the biggest gaps where in the wing root, which I made smaller by attaching the lower wing first, them gluing the top wing to the root and once that was dry, pinching them together.  And here are some shots of the cockpit detail. All I added was a bit of putty on the seat to get rid of the pilot slot and some masking tape seat belts.

the cockpit assembly also left some gaps whee you could see through the entire plane, so I blocked those in with a square of paper towel painted interior green and super glued into place. The Wheel wells were also not boxed in, but since some P40s had a canvas covering in there, I pulled the paper towel trick again. (that is the white thing you see in the middle of the wing)

while the wings were drying, I worked on the landing gear. I added brake lines made of wire.

and here it is with wings and tail attached

Off to the paint booth next!

here are some WIP pics of the warthog---yes I am building multiple kits at the same time. I've gotta get this stash reduced some how!  Big Smile

The A-10 in 1/48 is a big kit..same size as a B-25!  This will probably be a ceiling hanger because I have little shelf room for a model this big.

and since its an in-flight model, I have to have someone flying it!  The Warthog will have a USAAF paint scheme inspired by P-40 decals that I have, so the pilot is also painted in USAAF colors. I've only started to paint figures and I think this one turned out pretty well!

Nice choice.  I have a couple of those in my stash too, and one of their big 1/32 cousins.  It's a fun little kit.

CallSignOWL

as stated earlier, I have moved the P-40 up in the cue. This is the Revell/Monogram kit in 1/48th scale.  I'm not going for a super-detailed office because I plan to build it with the closed canopy. This kit actually builds up so quickly, I forgot to take more photos!
