Richard - supercool! I actually just had my own awesome missing parts experience - managed to send one of the PV-1's fuselage windows rocketing into regions unknown last night, and it turns out Revell has an online setup for ordering replacements - free of charge! How cool is that?

I am pleased to announce i will be getting a replacement cowling from www.aviationmegastore.com

They are based here in the netherlands and really have anything aviation modeling related. I just sent em an email after my post here and got a reply within five minutes saying they would look in their spares department.

Now a few hours ago i got news that they had a cowling for me and will be sending it right away at NO charge!!  Talking about lighning fast excellent service huh?? It will be coming in tomorrow so no harm done in the end

KERMIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NONONONO dont bin that badboy !!! I think quickboost makes a resin cowl for your Wildcat but not sure. However young pond hopper if you cant find another or the original doesn't show up from hiding, change your kung fu stance . Paint up a few figures and do a couple step ladders and the mechanics could be fixing a blown cylinder or a shot up oil tank or something, fixing a leaky radiator. Oh wait Wildcats were air cooled  nix the coolant leak.  Maybe do a couple oil drums that could be kicked around. anything but dont bin it.

&*^***&*^$%# Disaster struck me just now... Almost finished constructing my wildcat only to find out i totally lost the cowling

Does anybody know where i can get a replacement or maybe a resin cowling for an early 1/32 wildcat? I reaaaalllyyy don't want to throw all my work in the bin..

Been a bit of a busy week, hasn't been a lot of time spent in the mancave.

Nice part about this kit is the detailed engine but also these gunbays with removeable, multi piece hatches. Another detail you can see well in this picture are the blast tube covers that trumpeter added as an optional goodie. I chose to add them:

And here is how the control surfaces look with all the PE:

Next up is some minor seam filling. Mostly bad glue work on my part and not trumpeters fault mind you... And then it's on to the landing gear assembly. Thank you all for watching

Yup, theres a small PE set included for the posable control surfaces as well as a set of vinyl tires. I should have more to show in a couple of hours as i am completing and attaching the wings as we speak...

Well guys, it's been a short while as i have been trying very hard to complete some projects so i can give more attention to the wildcat... Last night and this morning i am working on the wings with PE rich posable control surfaces:

There's some spots on the bottom of the aircraft that are bad, looks like water spots, but I know they're not from water or anything, cause the black coat did not have them.  Guess I sprayed it wrong or something.  My suspension is the bent needle I found while cleaning the airbrush afterwards.

B17 man I would say you have gone and nailed that alclad paint buddy Really came out well and shiny too !! for the next installment.

Furyan I normally dont like open gun bays but yours need to be opened up, they scream for it.

Ok wheel bay, guns and ammo boxes in place. Wings finally paired.

Must say again this is a delight to build.

You can see two of the many magnets in this shot. These two are to interchange the landing bay covers. I wont be doing that much but for one time when I come to spray it instead of using masking tape.

Yeah, a few different shades of Alclad, then the OD anti glare panel and squadron markings, then its going to get weathered after the decals

Started masking off the panels last night.  Once I get the main color masked, should be pretty fast painting the other colors.

OK couople of quick questions: 1)How soon after you spray on Alclad can you mask it and spray another Alclad color without the previous paint lifting when tape is removed (I use Tamiya tape for masking)?  I got the base Aircraft Alunimum on last week and was wondering if I can get the other three or four NMF colors painted in one day.  Still have to put on the OD anti-glare and the blue and black ID bands, but just trying to get all the NMF done this weekend.

2) Will leaving Tamiya tape on over a period of a few days hurt the paint?

1 - Depends on how daring you are...I'd say you could chance it after an hour, but I'd give it overnight. No sense in mucking something up out of impatience - that's a constant danger anyway! Also, if you're just masking panels for a quick shot, you can always use post-it notes, especially on big flat sections.

2 - Not at all. Just de-tack it ahead of time.

When I did my Hellcat I left the TammiTape on around the cockpit area for over two weeks.. paint wasnt bothered at all.

Lovely work going on here at the moment and i am sure to post a wip pretty soon now that i am about to finish up some stuff on my workbench. Coming back from a holiday i went a bit nuts and i have four models going at the moment... Bear with me please gents...

Update on the Super Sabre.

Masking done, I love it when a canopy fits together! YAY Trumpeter! I can't praise the engineering of this kit enough.

Some little bit of puttying required on the wing roots and a little on the fuselage.

Finally got the gun pits of the 'stang done.                                                                                             Believe it or not these 50's took me 3 nights to get only to this point, lots of photo etch parts.. this photos pretty naff, not much to see but feels good to back into it a bit more.
