Excellent detail work Andy Yes  The gun mount / mantel is a great fix.  The tow cables will be a nice touch also.  She is starting to look really mean especially with that new barrel.

Andy,,    the "barrel to hull" splint looks good,, very innovative. The rest of the Stug is mighty fine looking too.    I am not exactly sure why the latter war Stugs didn't carry the extra cans. My thinking would be that even if they were short on fuel they probably would have carried [them] in case they could scavenge. Not sure why they didn't though....

And thanks,,  no asprins needed (yet anyway)

Enjoy the ride!

Carl- Thanks buddy!  That was a good one... Beer

Rob- Glad you liked the result... it looks alot better for sure!  But not as good as your Frency tank and I am not kidding!  Mean?  Nah, you should have seen my wife when she finds out how much I spent on my hobby on the credit card statement. LOL

Bill- Thank you my friend!  Glad you are saving aspirins for later... thanks for sharing your thought about StuG not carrying extra cans.  I am going to pay more attention on this for those late war armors to see if it is a trend or not.  Maybe they carried rubber hoses to scavenge for fuel instead?  Or it is that they don't want to waste scare fuel if they were sitting on the tanks especially that they would be lost when destroyed by enemies?

That is a good question.  I think they were just scavenging by that time especially fuel.  Germans just did not have the resources or maybe more so the means to move the resources by that time.  Would also assume that if one of the tankers could get their hands on some cans no matter from which country they would take them.

Agreed Rob,,  tis a poser           would they have snagged cans and kept them around, just in case?   Or would they have left them lay and keep room for passengers.          A good question indeed.

Enjoy the ride!

Guys- I bet wbill or other guys have answers for this... we should ask them in Armor forum when we have the chance.  I have been busy packing for 7 days personal/business trip starting tomorrow.

Quick update... I didn't like the gaps on the front top part of the hull so I had to take get rid of those...

Using stretched sprue and lots of Tamiya extra thin cement to make weld seams between both sides...

I am pleased with the result... I may need to come back and work again when they are dry.
Unfortunately I will not be able to post an update for a while.  Leaving for Salt Lake City in Utah for a conference but first my wife and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary by visiting her brother she hasn't seen  for ten years.  People always tell how beautiful Utah is.
I will have access to internet but not sure how much time I will have.  Thanks for looking and try to behave!

Hey Andy,

Looking good buddy, great bolt detail & weld seams - I really must start paying more attention to little details like that on my work as they really do make all the difference.

Have a good time in Utah (obviously I have no idea where that state is off the top of my head but it sounds cool) and I'll keep an eye on this lot too Wink

Look forward to having you back on here soon. Shame as you'll probably miss my final Panzer III N update and photos as I'll be fitting the front rail and spare links between now and Monday (I'm off work after today and returning Tuesday as I need to use some holiday up before Christmas).

Right, he's gone - party time guys! Cool LOL!

All the best,

Ben Toast

Hi guys,

Yeeeee Haa!!! My much needed 4 day weekend is finally here.

It couldn't have been better as it's pay day today too and a rather large bonus was there keeping my normal monthly salary company so I've had a little spend today - honest, it was little!

My folks came in from picking up the Leningrad Tiger (Dragon Kit# 6600) this afternoon from my LHS which is for my Birthday Present and decided that I'd better check the kit to see if it was 'All Present and Correct'! Well, it certainly was and boy, I cannot wait to get to grips with this one! It's absoletely HUGE and is crying out for a great Winter paint scheme too! The tracks should be fine so no Friuls this time but knowing me I'll change my mind before long Whistling

Anyhow, the old Panzer III N certainly did turn out very well. I have decided to fit a spare track holder between the two headlights but will leave that holder empty of links. I'm also going to fit the longer spare track holder that sits on the very front and will put some Friul W/Ketten in - probably just a couple of shorter links made up and a few single links - sitting at slight angles perhaps?

I'd be happy to leave it as it is now but without these spare track holders and some spare tracks it certainly would be lacking in the 'accuracy' department as spare links or not - the holders at least certainly would have been fitted!

I've got a VERY busy weekend ahead of me so I may not get round to doing this until my day off on Monday but over the weekend I'd like to get the holders mounted, painted and weathered.

So, final update this weekend or Monday at the latest and some more decent photos too!

Enjoy your weekend fellas,

Ben Toast

Thants what I'm talken about Cool

Time off from the HOBBY! NEVER Crying

I'm only having a long weekend chaps with the original intention of getting some more work done but unfortunately the way this weekend has panned out it looks like I'll be getting less! Typical!

I'll get the Pz III completed this weekend then I'll going to use next weekend to have a good old tidy up of all my stuff and maybe even start a little figure Vignette (as in an MG42 gunner and assistant lying on the ground firing - I have a perfect Tamiya set) as I need to improve my figure work asap.

The following Friday (November 4th) is already booked off as I never work on my birthdays if I can help it - the only work I'll be doing is starting my Birthday Tiger I! He he he Cool

Have a nice weekend guys,

Final update will be posted sometime this weekend.

All the best,

Ben Toast

Hi guys,

Well, I spoke too soon. I tried fitting the Winterketten rails but as was going to be fairly obvious, there would have been a right old disaster. I tried the longer bar at the lower front first and it just wasn't happening Sad

I didn't want to risk making a real mess of what is an otherwise really nice model which I like a lot and am proud of so I've added a few pin washes around hatches, very light pigment behind the running gear and I'm calling her complete Cool I am going to assemble a short run of Winterketten to sit at the rear along with a few single links too.

So, it's onto the Tiger I and I'll remember to fit the spare track rail before any painting is done this time! Ahh well, I love that front end so I'm not overly fussed Yes

Thanks for all the help, encouragement and advice that you have all given me during this build - it's been great!

Thanks of course to Andy for hosting this GB. It's perfect for me as I love Panzer III's and StuG III's!

I'll be popping in to check on the progress of everyone else and I'll be building my third entry in the New Year (StuG III C/D I think).

In the meantime I'll also be building my Tiger as part of the Ostfront II GB and my Bronco Comet as I fancy a decent piece of Brit Armour in the cabinet!

Cheers guys,

Ben  Toast

Cheers Shellback,

I had a lot of fun with that stowage and making the rack. I know the rack is a bit 'Heath Robinson' (not the best), as my Dad would say but it was a nice learning curve all the same during assembly.

I'm looking forward to getting this Tiger I started then getting back on here again for my third Pz III GB build.

All the best and have a good week,

Very nice, Ben.  An excellent model of the III.  Weathering is a matter of personal taste and mine tends to run a bit less than yours.  Yours, however, was well executed and that is what counts.  Are you planning a ground work base along with the Tiger to bring them both into context?  That should be super.

Cheers mate and a tip of the Guinness, or bitters  if you prefer.

Cheers buddy,

I'm improving so I hope to keep climbing that big ladder of improvement Yes

The Tiger looks like a brilliant kit and a dream for weathering so that should be a lot of fun!

It's been pretty quiet on here this weekend - has anyone got photo updates to post?

Hey Satch!

Thanks buddy - that means a lot (and everyone else too guys).

I do like my weathering techniques and trying out new methods - I've still got a LOT to learn and try out too!

I decided on this particular Tiger (the 6600 Dragon Tiger is the 'Leningrad Winter '43 Tiger I) just like my Panzer is also the Leningrad Winter schemed version - I thought the pair of them painted in similar schemes would be excellent but the two of them on a base together? No room I'm afraid as much as I'd love to do it. They'll be sat next to each other in the cabinet and when I'm in a position to make a decent base (i.e. I can afford to move out) that's definately something I'd like to do.

Cheers for the Guiness btw, funny you mentioned that because it is actually my drink! I can't drink the fizzy stuff (yuck) as it gives me horrific heartburn/acid reflux and I'm not a spirit guy at all. I'm also partial to the odd fine English ale like Old Speckled Hen, Black Sheep and Hobgoblin - mmmmm Stick out tongue

Cheers buddy,

Ben Toast
