Actually Tamiya released the 37mmm Flak by itself some many moons ago. I noticed it is not in their current catalogue.

How is the one that comes with the Tamiya Mobilwagen? Is it available as a separate kit?

The Flak 43 that came with Tamiya's Mobilwagen (kit 35237) is very good. I don't believe Tamiya ever released the Flak 43 as a seperate kit.

Do you guys know if Italeri's Demag halftrack with nebelwerfer is any good?

I was thinking about using this for my build, along with a couple more Italeri nebelwerfers and some figures.

Question #2 Are there any figures out there that can be used for nebelwerfer crewmen

Thanks in advance,

Hey, lookin' good so far.

Is that kit the CMK 1/35th scale 3.7cm Flak 43? If so, how was it as a build-up? Never built a CMK kit before.

Mark and Moe, welcome! It's gonna be great to see all those guns getting built and painted. Remember that start times are for those who don't want to start right away, and end times are just a little gentle pressure for the procrastinators -- like me! Tongue [:P] If you finish tomorrow (or February 2005), post pics so we can enjoy. I'm going to try to post some pics soon myself. I'm worried though because the pics I take always come out much, much worse than any of the pics I see here.

Just my 2 cents.

I can't believe both my LHS's don't have a thing for artillery, not even a Pak 40! Angry [:(!] So far, I'm having fun tracking down something and the prices were higher than I expected. Perhaps, I will rebuild a new Tamiya 88mm. My is a bit dated and it was once a premier gun of WW II. Yup, got to build a gun. Big Smile [:D]

I am in my first build, and first diorama for the build. other than that I have not built a model in 30 years and NEVER weathered one so....

As for suggestions easiest to get would be something in the German flavor, easiest Diorama? , maybe North Africa scene less complicated scene and colors.

I am thinking of a four howitzers in fighting position or [more likely] a German halftrack towing a gun being ambushed by some Americans

The other day, someone commented on how exciting it was that this topic got 'sticky' status. What is sticky status? (Does it just mean the topic doesn't bounce around?). And who dishes it out, 'cause that sounds like a pretty cool gig...

That high speed tractor is pretty sweet. Thumbs Up [tup] Those saw action in the Pacific, didn't they? I have this recollection of seeing footage, but I might be thinking of the DUKW...

Anyways, maybe a build of that tractor towing something captured... like an 88 or maybe a Pak-40. Man, I thought I was settled on the Pacific but now I'm conflicted!! Banged Head [banghead]

Must do.... research... narrow down... topic....

US Prime Movers update:

Yup, there are pieces available to build the various prime movers I discussed earlier. As I predicted, hard to find, expensive, difficult to build -- what armor modeler does not salivate at those words? Tongue [:P]

From Real Models is the conversion for the Tamiya Jimmy to make a Short Jimmy, the kind that hauled the 105mm howitzer:

ADV/Azimut makes a full kit of the great big Mack NO 7.5 ton prime mover:

And PSP Models we have the M4 Allis Chambers high speed tractor.

Alternately, you can be less of a fuss-budget and just use the readily-available M35 for the bigger guns, or a normal Jimmy for the 105 (which BTW is made by Italeri, not a bad little kit). I'll bet a nickle that these vehicles were used in fact to pull those guns on occasion.

German seems the more painless route if you want to to a gun + tranport, as you've got a number of small weapons plus light prime movers around.

There's always the Italeri 7.5cm IG. Smile [:)] Or, does the 3.7cm gun come off of the Mobilwagon? You could always build just the gun for the group build, then stick it on the tank. Smile [:)]

Welcome Mark and Moe. To answer your price question Moe, it seems about right. I haven't built that kit in about 25 years. Only one I know about.

Howdy,

Just realised this group gun build thread was here, great stuff! (Thanks L_D)

Although it seems I've jumped the gun already without realising it (no pun intended...). I've nearly completed a Pak 35/36, and have posted a few pics in a separate thread of my progress. Check them out there here:

http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14189

I'm going to attempt my first 'proper' diorama as well, basically just some uneven ground, a bunch of mud, and some small foliage. I'd say that's a big enough task for the first attempt.

Anyway, glad to join you guys!

Hi all!!! In my post about building my second armor, the Quad gun tractor, it was sugested that i get a 25 pounder gun for my truck to tow, and to come join in this build... so here i am!!!!

Most of my time here on FSM has been in the Auto section, but not much goes on there so i decided to branch out a little, and here i am on the the dark side!!!!!

I went to the LHS today and found a British 25 Pounder gun for 15 bucks, does that sound about right??? I didn't buy it yet, cause the wife was with me, and i spend over 80 bucks there yesterday!!!!

So my knowledge of armor and guns and such is VERY limited, so please feel free to slap me upside the head once in awhile and guide me in the correct direction!!!!!

Thanks guys!!!!!1

Well, when talking about "proper" artillery for WWII, we have the 105mm howitzer, we have the Long Tom and we have the 8" gun. Could be better, but that's not horrible.

The bigger problem is prime movers,

if you want to go that route (and you certainly don't have to for this build). The 105 was pulled by the Short Jimmy (2 1/2 ton truck), which no one makes (the Tamiya Jimmy is not a Short Jimmy). The Long Tom and the 8" howitzer were pulled either by the absolutely huge, very imposing Mack NO truck (7.5 ton truck) -- also no kit AFAIK -- or by the good old M4 high speed tractor -- no kit (except the Blue Tank one which is supposed to be a complete piece of crap). There may be limited edition kits of these vehicles but they are usually astronomically priced and hard to find.

Grrr! Angry [:(!]

"Jerry" has the opposite problem. The plastic Tamiya FAMO is around for the Matterhorns, but the Matterhorns themselves are not available except in resin from some European company -- 500 pieces of fiddly resin to construct, apparently! They are awesome looking guns though, especially the Brummbar (21 cm version).

The Brits have it worse, though Accurate Armour makes seceral big gun kits and the prime movers. But of course they are expensive. Maybe Airfix makes something?

It's easier to find smaller tactical guns and just have a Hanomag pull them around.

Italian and Japanese guns are purely in the land of limited ediiton resin.

Remember though that there are a decent number of nice little gun kits out there for AAA. They are usually very sleek and nifty looking. They look dangerous with all those barrels. Smile [:)]

I saw today that Dragon make quite a range of small artillery.
They make an 8.8cm puppchen on sleds! That could make an interesting small diorama project.

They also make a 2.8cm anti-tank gun being towed by a horse!

I am only after a small project so these would by ideal and a little different.

Anyone else know of anything along similar lines?
