It's pretty nifty looking but at $75, it's fairly expensive.

75 bucks!! YIKES! [:0] Maybe I'll just do one of those $8 Pak 40's... or I'll see what else I can come up with.

I have not decided my build items yet. I like the idea of the chinook, its my kinda "shock" style outside of the box :)

Whoever asked if we could put grass, or bases, etc... asking if the build is just the model, the answer is up to you. If you post pictures of your model on the base... do you think we would say "TAKE IT OFF THAT BASE" heheheheh. Personally, a model without a base...is, well, ... not finished in my book Clown [:o)]

This group build should really bring out some creative displays. There are so many places "to put" a gun on the battlefield Evil [}:)]

I have a few ideas on paper.... cant decide which way to go. Luckily we have some time to decide still Big Smile [:D]

QUOTE: A bofors gun, huh? Sounds cool, but were those towed?

Oui oui!

Only thing is that it's one of those fancy schmancy all resin/white metal/PE kits so it might be a bit pricey. Nice thing is that it comes with the Marines to shoot the gun, in action poses. I think they are marines, anyway. Hard to see in the photo.

I have an AFV Club M59 Long Tom I'd like to do for this build. Now I need to find a vehicle to pull this thing...

i'll have ti try and find a kit of the CH-47 C or D ... otherwise i can settle for any version

i haven't been modeling for long (about 3 years "seriously") so i think this will be a big learning curve for me,

oh, and are we allowed to add bases and grass or something ? or is it just the model itself?

i ask alot of questions, sorry Tongue [:P]

I went digging around in the -1 degree temp storage shed.

I was looking for either my Pak 50 or the Pak 97/75

Needless to say, my body gave out to the cold before I found either.

I did find the following:
M35 w/ 8 inch gun

M59 Long Tom

German 75mm Infantry Gun 18 (The little guy. I picked up a Russian Komsemoletes tractor to tow this one)

Pak 36 (another little guy)

Italian Skoda DA 75/13

Italian Autocarretta mod 36 (Prime Mover)

Italian Skoda 100/17

Russian B-4 203mm (the one with the tracked carriage)

Since I've got some unusual stuff sitting on the shelf, I'll let the group pick.

A $20 membership fee? Oh my, that's more than twice the price of my kit. LOL.

BTW I will be done with my Sherman so I'll be free for next group build.

I'm gonna wait too, Dwight, but not because of the suggested start time -- because I will have my hands full with the Panther and then the Sherman right on its heels! [:0]

The great thing about the gun build though is that generally speaking the guns will be a little less time intensive to build.

Someone was talking about USMC guns -- I saw a nice 1/35th scale Bofors gun with what appeared to be Marine crew, but I don't recall the manufacturer. ADV Azimut maybe? I saw it while perusing the R&J website, http://www.rjproducts.com

Someone else asked about partially built up kits. Shhh! Tongue [:P] Actually, if a group buld gets you to finish up a kit, then the build has done its job.

Yet someone else has said he's new to these things. Well, don't forget to mail me the $20 check for the "group member fees." Tongue [:P]

Robert I agree completely about the M35 -- I didn't mean to get all rivet-counterish.

Man, I'd really like to get into this one. The DML Kettenkrad with Pupchen is just crying to me to do it here. But I'm just not going to commit to another group build. Sorry. But I'd really like to get some of my many "starts" into the finished column!

Even though the M35 wasn't actually designated as the prime mover for wither the 155 Long Tom or for the 8". They still make into interesting combinations. I'm probably going to go with the 8" having already built the Long Tom. My opinion was it's a great kit, had some "busy" parts that needed special attention but great none the less.

As far as suspending the 105 from a Chinook .... definitely 2 thumbs up from this end. Sounds fantastic !!!!!
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Ron, Larry, there were also some female pilots. A pretty famous ace, but I can't recall her name.

I saw an ICM 100mm that got rave reviews and was dirt cheap. Anyone built it before?

Hey,

I'd definately be interested in this group build. I've never done one, so someone will have to give me a heads up of how it works. Confused [%-)] Do you set a schedule for getting sub-assemblies built and then, if a guy doesn't keep up, you send a bunch of other guys to his house, kick the doors down, take all his x-acto blades and kick him out of the build? Evil [}:)] 'Cause I'm definately 'that guy'. "Give me my #11's back you Censored [censored]!!!"

Anyways, I think I'll try to do something from the Pacific Theater. Anyone know what towed arty the Japanese used, maybe in the China area. Or maybe I'll do some good ol' USMC arty-dogs setting up shop on the sand of Iwo... I'm gonna have to do some research.Big Smile [:D]

They are teeny but they are beautifully detailed. They are often nicer than 1/72nd scale offerings. And dioramas with lots of them look very cool because you can model them with realistic space between each vehicle, and/or with entire units of vehicles. I remember seeing a diorama with a Soviet tank battation at a wargaming convention. Yes, a battalion.

I know tankers and their traffic MP's were occasionally women. Some snipers too. I don't think they used women as infantry. Artillery could go either way of course. It's a non-hand-to-hand situation, but it also requires strength to load the weapons. Hmmm. No Russian woman posting here? Tongue [:P]

Or perhaps a 37mm PAK gun in 1/72nd? Smile [:)]

Actually, I'm not completely joking. I'd love to see an tiny, intricate little gun all done up and superdetailed. Heck, I may do it myself.

I ma even do a diorama with an entire battery of artillery deployed (say, a British battery in the Western Desert) using the beautiful GHQ 1/285th scale models ....

By themselves, I wouldn't really consider building one of them to be "modeling," but a whole battery, in a diorama, I think would be. Thoughts? I started this, so I don't want to be the heretic. Smile [:)]

Speaking of the '102, when I was at Fort Sill in 1975 they had women training as canoneers in a trial program. I saw them when we went from the SP are for a week of 'Towed' school. Our instructors said they were outscoring the men on everything but loading and emplacement! How'd that be for a dio? Female US Army Arty trainees and their M102!

Ron

Interesting. I wonder if the Soviets used female artillerists in the GPW (Great Patriotic War). That would make an unusual diorama.

Good deal, Major Rob. PE really comes into its own on something like a gun kit. Sounds like your piece will be everything we all like the most about modeling. You look at this small thing, then get a closer look, and the detail's all there.

I wonder if your 7.5cm will be the smallest build-up in the group. It's a tiny gun, and of course it had to be. It'll be interesting to see what the largest one will be.

It'll be my first piece of German towed artillery since I built a Nebelwerfer way back in college (early 1980s). This kit is about ½ the size of the Nebelwerfer, even though it is 1/35 scale.
