Hey guys, sorry about the lack of updates, ive been snowed in for the last 3 days and the powers been dodgy. Ill get stuck into updating the front page now.

As to already commenced kits. Ill say 50% or less completed and im ok with it. If you want to post a pic of what your faced with before you start (ie how crap the kit is) im thinking of a small competition.

Anyway. I will get on to updating that front page.

I got the Walrus in the mail yesterday and am ready to build!

As soon as I finish the Nelson that is.

If I might ask - how does the moulding look like on the Walrus??? I understand it is just a re-boxing of an old kit.

I dunno about TD's but mines a retool and it looks fantastic. poor interior detail, but the pilots are immaculately detailed.

I shot some paint on 2 other airfix projects I have on the go.A 1/72 Spit Mk9 and a 1/72 BAE Hawk 120.

Now that I have primer on the pannel trenshes really stand out! Will have to see how to tone them down a bit.

You won't need any panel-line wash to make them stand out, the shadows will take care of that! I wonder if a little post-shading with no wash will lessen the "trenched" look a little bit??

As far as I'm aware, there's only ever been one Airfix Walrus kit, dating from 1958. New box, (A02002) but not new or updated tooling.

I am considering doing the 1/72 Mosquito, possibly as a Mk.XVIII with the 57mm Molins.

Well lads, I attach 2 pix just for interest sake  (not part of the build)

Both are new Airfix and 72 scale.

The trenshes on the Hawk 120 are deeper than on the Spit. Maybe it has something to do that most new builders will still brushpaint and therefore the lines need to be deeper and wider.

Actually the spit will look less "bad" when the colours are on.The primer is just like silver.......it shows up all you sins! LOL

I don't know if it will be worth the effort to somehow try and fill the Hawk's pannels, it might be counter productive. Unless you guys have some ideas???

You could fill in the trenches with stretched sprue, to give it that classic raised panel line look!

sure these panel lines will not covered by the gloss coat and work perfect for lines washing

heres my scout sprues

the helicopter is really little (not than my kamov 18) but the box was too little for the sprues, not sealed with plastic bag and the rotor head comes with a breaked arm

till now i glued the main engines pieces and the cockpit bulkead, soon i'll take pictures.

I know the gb is not started but these works was done before the feeler was posted.

just for knowledge other two airfix in the stash

Ahhhh - I've got the same one (Viggen) in the stash, plus another boxing from Heller that looks very similar - same molds probably?? I think I managed to find one of each of the Swedish cold war jets, some interesting a/c for sure.

I think the consensus among most Brits is the new Airfix is targetting the beginner crowd for the smaller kits.  Hence they are relatively inexpensive, and even after brush painting there is still enough detail remaining to allow some basic weathering.  I've been carefully NOT enhancing the panel lines, and with some wash on the control surfaces it looks pretty good (at arm's length). 

I hope to get started on my kits this weekend.  Work, good weather and other projects just keep getting in the way...

viggen is surely intresting already done some work on the whell wells. if in time i'll add to the group later. the heller probably are the same mold after the union between the two brand

I'm a total newb but maybe this will get me going. I bought my model last weekend in the hopes of building a relatively easy one to get some confidence as I'm trying to get back into the hobby after +/- 30 years.

Even though it's a simple model, it may take me the whole year to build it as the last model I tried building has taken 4+ years.

Scale 1:72 - Supermarine Spitfire Mkla. I'm 99% sure it's going to be 100% OOB.

lol plenty of support here bro. As long as you follow the instructions youll be good. In the early stages of your disease...i mean hobby, airbrushing is not that important, concentrate on making the kit look good weather its brushed of airbrushed.
