looks like ya hit the jackpot with that kit !... when you say '63 rivets' thats cool.. they give 'em to ya....

my Tamiya missed a whole row of rivets on the top of the sponsons. many guys who build this kit use Archer 3D dry transfers for the fix.... I'm not sure yet how I will do it... I would prefer an actual plastic piece

Sounds like your kit is very up to date with the PE ,springs and what not...I will be looking forward to your pics in progress!... thats alot of pieces for a 4 inch hull !

DARSON - The Vulcan kit does have a lot of parts for the size of it.  The hull only comes in at about 4 inches!  It has 164 plastic parts, 95 etched, 63 rivet heads, 32 metal springs and 8 brass rods.  The tracks are link and length which will be a big advantage because of there size.  Parts look very well molded and clean with fine rivets on the whole vehicle.  Think it will be a very nice kit once you get past the size of it.

Have also received the Eduard detail set for the Somua S35 in the mail, SWEEEET!  Made up of two photoetched sheets.  This is the first kit I've special ordered PE and Friul's for!  Hope to have a good go at her!

Has anyone heard of or built a Vulcan model?  This is my first but just peaking in the box it looks to be a nice kit.  This is going to be a small one though.  Mine might be smaller then yours Eric

Sorry, I've never built a Vulcan model either but I swear some I've built were designed and made by Klingons...

Have to second the Char B treads are great, other than sanding off a small injection mark on the shoe you just snap them together. If only cleaning up the zillion tiny little road wheels were as easy.

Carl, MK makes a nice and easy to assemble set for the Pz I (they are so small that one of the pins is already molded in and you just slide in the link and add the 2nd pin, assembly is very fast as a result) that would likely be cheaper than Fruils if you want to go that route.

Tread, the OOB tracks on the Char B1 are a dream come true. They click together and are very durable and assemble in no time!

We'll see . I could try the straight pin method to force sag into the rubber band tracks but that's a pain to do .

 

 

Carl, R&J has Modelkasten set SK-70 for Pz I A for $27.00 and the Friul set ATL-20 for Pz I and Opel Maultier for $30.00. If either would work I'd get the Friuls. I'm currently trying out my first set of Friuls and while they are as tedious as any indy link they do look good. Plus, they have plenty of extra links whereas I think Modelkasten only gives you what you need for each run. R&J is right around there in Eric and your neighborhood too.

Was toying with the idea of doing that Vulcan kit myself as something a bit different, but the parts count and number of little bits put me off. So I went with a small Dragon Pz.III instead

I'm with you. Why pay $40 for Friuls ? On the other hand I did pick up some MK Pz II's off of ebay for just $11, otherwise I wouldn't pay more then the kit was worth on AM tracks. It's only on sag that I get a little picky on the tracks.

Eric , i've never used any of those , because of cost and not having a newer kit with Magics . I just looked on Sprue bros. and the only set i could find was Fruil make for the Pz. Ausf . F . not sure if there is a difference from the Ausf . M .

hate to say it again, but with my kit in hand, I am really psyched up !   I am reading, reading reading to make sure I get it right !

Glad you are making progress in the color department,Eric... I think ,although a bit agonizing to get the correct choice, it is a fun part of the build.

do your  tracks 'click' together, or do they have to be glued a bit at a time like Dragon tracks on the Pzkf I ?

I was thinking of getting Friuls for my build as I usually do, but they get a bad review on this tank. the OOB tracks are in fact the best for the kit.

Are you using acrylics or enamel for your build?.... I find that sometimes,usually a critical point,masked off acrylic sometimes pulls or lifts off the plastic... I think I may go way out of the box and use enamels for my multi color paint job as they adhere a bit better when cured... what do you think?

Well good sir, my tracks are the lovely glue-together type. They are so freaking small! And, unlike Magic tracks, have to be removed and cleaned up. That should take a day or two. 

I heard that the Char B tracks are great, so enjoy. 

I prefer acrylics for ABing. Easier cleanup and, less obnoxious smell, and faster drying. Very fast drying.

Carl, sadly wou won't be able to get a sag without some imagination, but It's not that big a deal if it doesn't bother you.
