I'm going to try painting the splodey-things yellow, the masking the stripes on my Revellogram. We'll see. Still wish someone made the clusterbomb setup. Ton of work, but how awesome would this look?

Ohhhhhhhhh, like eight fifty cal machine guns weren't awesome enough!

I've toyed with doing the three bazooka mount on each wing but haven't seen many photos of P-47s with them so I'm not sure how often they were used. But they look totally brutal.

BABY BOMBS!!!

 WOw, You step away from the thread for a couple of days and there is a flurry of really outstanding work when you come back. Everybody is turning out some truely awe inspiring Jugs.

 Doogs and Satch - Both of those Razorbacks sweet. Very nice mask job there Doogs.

Wabash - Nice start on the "N". Looking forward to following your progress as I got one of those for x-mas.

O - Booyah!! That there is an excellent build. Interesting technique for your NMF. I was figuring on starting out with the Alclad white primer also. Seems as though the black can be a bit difficult. So. how well did your white primer go on?

Gamera - Yeah, hang in there. I had a moment of dispare when my fuselage halves cross diambulated. Yet, I just stepped away for awhile, considered my options, took it to task and things came out alright and my enthusiasm was restored.

As far as "Eight Nifties" goes, some slow but steady progress. getting the wings assembled and the gear bays are painted (Tamiya Green-Yellow) and detailed. I'd like to hope I could get the wings and tail on this weekend but I have an obligation on Sat. and then of course the Daytona 500 on Sun,

Joe: Thanks! Looking forward to seeing more of 'Eight Nifties'. I looked up the decal sheet and love it, I need another P-47 decal sheet like I need another hole in the head but I'll probably end up picking up the sheet anyway sometime in the future.

Depends on the one you're doing, since there were at least three schemes:

1 - Dark Green/Medium Sea Gray over NMF

2 - Dark Blue/Light Blue over NMF (exact blues is debated)

3 - Black over NMF. But from what I understand it wasn't perfectly black. Since the 56th made heavy use of British paint stocks, I wonder if this wasn't something like the blue-black used on Brit armor?

All of them had the -M characteristic NMF leading edges on the wings, stabs and rudder.

Worked on the pit a bit more, should be done this weekend. My new computer comes today, try getting pics this weekend.

Also. I just took a look at the trumpeter site and their 1/32 P-47s. The rivet and engine detail is amazing! Kinda has me thinking of doing one of their D's someday. I coated "jabo" with the Alclad Gloss clear night before last. That stuff sure is nice! I also got some Alclad SS, which tested as a very nice finish. Not nearly as dark as their Steel. Will look nice on the long belly panels and around the turbocharger panel. That, then on the decals in the next few days.

That's exactly how I would do it. Though...especially if I were doing one of the camo ones, I'd leave the NMF patchy over black anywhere the camo would be going. I have a feeling preshade efforts would be especially effective on those blue/blue schemes.

This is actually the first build I tried the white primer on.  It takes some getting used to.  If the distance from your airbrush is too great, or the pressure's too high, it's easy to end up with a grainy finish or puddles/runs.  Not ideal for a NMF.  However, if you can get all the variables nailed down, the stuff lays down butter smooth and rock hard.  There were a couple of spots that I had to go back and sand down (some grain and minor drips caused by my lack of experience), but the stuff feathered out nicely.  Can't tell at all under the paint.  

I've heard horror stories about Alclad's black stuff, but I didn't have any of the problems associated with that stuff.  The white dries quickly, smooth as a baby's bottom, and hard as stone...assuming you do everything right.

Hey everybody, finally got my computer set up so I can send you update pics of "Punkins." At the time of these pics she was ready for decals.

I applied the decals and did some mild weathering on her. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I will take some beauty shots.

Meanwhile, I have started on Patsy, and I really like this kit. Interior was painted Tamiya flat green with a touch of blue. I dry brushed the interior and used a Tamiya weathering kit. The fuselage halves are together and putty work should start shortly.

Von Sisco - Man, I'm digging the -N and the bubbletop - the latter is IMO probably the best kit boxed in 1/48, period (I say that after fit headaches with the Razorback's canopy). Well, along with the -M I guess.

My kit of choice would be the Revell of Germany P47D-25 in 1:72 scale. Built this kit four times now (for under 7 euro's you get sooo much bang for your buck; the ideal "quickie" kit IMHO) but i have never built the second painting option it offers which is in French markings.

Doogs-That is a great looking trio! Bubbletops look sleek and fast, but the razorbacks look tough and ready for a fight. The Bug is very sharp, I like your OD mix.

Work obligations and otherwise have kept me from the finish line. (As well as a very slow drying Alclad gloss coat). A few more touch-ups, decals, and weathering. She should be done by the weekend.

Doogs: Always great to see more of your usual super work. Nice addition to your fleet of P-47s!

Lol, knowing Gaston then he'd start on a 13,000 word dissertation on how he's making the kit accurate with 36 tubes of Squadron White Putty and a heavy duty automotive belt sander...

Thanks Tom. You are very astute. I used preshading on the plane, airbrushed on decanted Tamiya AS-12, clear and some follow up with some flat clear spotted in. I then took a dark grey sketching pencil and filled in all of the panel lines. Alot of work to be sure, but it turned out pretty good. Thanks again!

 Gamera, It isn't an odd shape issue, just a size issue, Me thinks it's a P-47 DD!

Definitely! And remember, this one runs through the end of the year, so you've got eleven more months to play with as many Jugs as you can get your hands on...
