Vance you triyng to put on the flanker the risiko scheme Big Smile insane masking work!

Dre ..so you missing only the 48 and 144 flankers?

It should be good practice for the "lakes pattern" that I want to use on my Saab Viggen!

Maybe Dre's 1/32 Flanker ate the smaller missing Flankers... Eats

The list price of Eduard's 1/48 is too close to Trumpeter's 1/32's, why build a smaller model?

There isn't enough plastic on those mini's to make a decent snack, let alone a meal, for the big Flanker.

Ah, but I do have the complete family (so far as has been produced in 1/32)...Wink

I guess that the Russians aren't too worried about rear-ward visibility in the Platypus?

Just like driving a Ferrari, it doesn't matter where you've been, or who you've already passed...

I can imagine getting a face-full of Pugachev's Cobra if you follow a Flanker too closely.

For some reason I can see an Estonian crime syndicate stealing rear-view camera systems from western European cars to sell to the Russian aircraft factories...

I might get the fuselage closed up on the Su-27UB C tonight...  I attached the main wings to the top half the other night to get a good, solid join.

Well I was PLANNING on sitting down to an empty house last night. Then I got a phone call at the office from my daughter: "I'm OK, but the school is on fire!"

HUH?!?!?

smoke & fumes from the chemistry department, evacuated the school in the middle of her cheerleading practice time, all the clothes etc left in the lockers, bunch of kids wearing shorts & t-shirts huddled outside in near-freezing temps.  Good times had by all!

Vance, you live a storied life.

I didn't get the fuselage closed last night as I remembered to work on the two nacelles before adding them to the underside.   I discovered that I have a weird wing warping going on- one wing droops down and the other is bent upwards...  it's not a result of gluing them incorrectly onto the fuselage piece but probably from the sprues getting bent during storage.   Damn it, if it's not one thing then it's another...

Well things turned out to be not so bad though. With a school population of +/- 1800, there are typically a lot of kids there even after-hours for various groups. Local fire department was taking no chances, but all were allowed back in within 45mins. Just enough to completely throw my plans. Ah well, c'est la vie.

One wing up, one wing down?? Must have been a storage issue. Hmm Are they already mounted??

Yep, noticed the one up/one down issue last night when I saw something 'not right' about the way it sitting on the box.   I might try a little warm air and a cooling form to fix this... or not depending on how bad it looks once the rest of it is assembled.

Alrighty, end of a long weekend & showing short of what I'd hoped for progress... figures!! Bang Head Picking up where I'd left off, masking pattern for the tail surfaces. (Poor lighting in pics, that is actually my pale blue colour, not primer)

The assistants. Agent 002, the trustworthy one...

Agent 003, uhhhhh, not so much.

The grey on, not bad but thinking I should have lightened it a little. (Tamiya acrylic)
Posted Image

And the blue... ended up using Testors enamels, light blue, no mixing. Is it crazy enough to work?!? Needed one more coat after this picture.

The tape... THE TAPE!!!!

Here she is, needs some touch ups though.

Ahhhj, such fine lines, unlike the slightly more, well, distinct looks on the MS406.

And then I found some time to start the afterburners. Trying out some Valejo acrylics here.

Then I popped open the Valejo acrylics for the NMF goodies, heat-plates, afterburners, gun surround...

We're not cutting into your retirement savings with international Flanker shipping charges are we Dre? Hoping to finish up the camo touchups this evening so I can move on to decals asap, get that canopy uncovered. If I play my cards right I could be wrapping her up this weekend.

Thanks bsyamato - cutting all that tape takes a while to do, but I like the effect on these splinter-type patterns. Really the only way to go.

Hard edge requires masking- I know my AB won't do that fine a line and I certainly cannot.

Tamiya clear paints are your friend here...   some smoke, some blue, some yellowy-orange and Bob's yer uncle.

But.. you've already pulled the masking from those panels.   Are you going to freehand that stuff?

Well I didn't want to push my luck leaving the masking on there any longer than required, so I'll be using Post-it notes along the edge there. Not sure I'll be able to access any Tamiya clears as my best local source for that now is a Science Toys Shop that happens to have some Tamiya models & supplies in one corner. Soooo he's got a really limited supply of paint, and a bunch of rattle-cans for the automotive kids. Considering Future tinted with food colouring... will obviously test this on something first.

I have never tried to mix Future with food coloring, but others here say it works.... good luck.

IT. IS. ALIVE!!!!!

this is the first coat of MM enamel Flanker Medium Blue mixed with 30% Gloss White.   I need another heavy coat before I can flip it over and begin painting the top half.  About 6 gallons of 110 PSI compressed air shooting at ~ 20 PSI at the airbrush, using a little more than 1/2 oz. of mixed paint ( 1jar) so far.... expensive paint job if it's going to take close to 3 jars of this Medium Blue to decently cover it!
